I've been thinking about making this for a while... It has taken me a lot of time trying to understand myself and how I work, to hopefully try to adapt my devices to make it as easy as possible for me to use and focus on the things I have to do...
(I also find it worthy of mention that I lean heavily towards open-source and free alternatives that focus on privacy, so everything you'll find here should be easy to use without paying at all or be completely free and also not want to harvest your every digital footprint.)
So here's a list of apps I recommend and help me not be a complete disaster, and also some other general tips at the end.
🔸LogSeq - available in every device (her web connects all)
LogSeq is an open-source, privacy-first, all-purpose application you can adapt to your every whim-- it comes already from the start with a lot of different functions, but what I find most useful of all is the ease with which it can help you connect everything you write and not let it become forgotten words you don't know the meaning and intention of anymore.
The way this app changed my way of taking notes and my feelings about writing random stuff to remember later cannot be overestimated-- it allows you to categorize every individual thing you write with tags, much like you would do on [tumblr].
To learn how to use it, I recommend reading the official guide, which is written in a way very similar to how writing in LogSeq works. Searching for videos explaining how it works is a good idea too-- it may look challenging at first sight, but once you get the hang of it it is easy!
(It also comes with a lot of customization options and, it allows for very in-deep customization and plug-ins, and has a huge community too.)

LogSeq also comes with extensive PDF annotation tools and makes integrating PDF files into your notes 10000000000 times easier.
🔸ReadEra
ReadEra is a lightweight, ad-less app available in the Play Store, App Store and AppGallery. There hasn't been a single annoying file this app hasn't been able to open... And it comes with a lot of functions for organization and viewing documents and books and annotation and reading and text-to-speech... Dream app...
It has a paid version, though the free version is incredibly nice either way, and it's the one I use.
🔸VLC
The best app for opening audio and video files... There's nothing this little cone can't open and! it's 100% open-source!!! You can do basically whatever you want with it!! Personalize however you want it!!! play puzzles with your videos!!!! Available in every device too!!!
🔸Language Transfer
Here's a language learning app! It has available (this was written the 4/3/2026) the following language courses to learn different languages from English:
Spanish
Arabic (Cairene)
Turkish
German
Greek
Italian
Swahili
French
English (from Spanish)
And a non-language course, Music Theory!
Language Transfer's method of teaching is unique to what I otherwise found online... It focuses on conversations and getting you go head-first into speaking and learning sentences. The format is an audio you listen to in which the host teaches a second person about the language, teaching very basic sentences first and then more elaborated as the lessons go on, meant for you to repeat after and be able to formulate yourself... It is honestly amazing I am not doing it justice here but please give it a try I promise it won't disappoint...
General tips:
I swear music changes your brain. Listen to music that makes you feel happy or stimulated to help you with your homework-- I usually listen to gen 2 pokémon music. I recommend listening to lyric-less music to help you focus because lyrics are very distracting.
Find something to do while you listen to audio-books or audios in general you need to focus on but can't. My strategy is to play a very easy no-thinking game to keep my hands occupied and be able to focus on the words being said. I use that pixel-art app you paint the numbers with the correct colours to keep me occupied while listening to the videos my teacher sent me to study.

One thing I just realized from using Language Transfer for Spanish is that I can comfortably make up compound sentences but still don't know how to count to 20.
LanguageTransfer is this audio series that’s free and super easy to find online.
They have Spanish, which I have used personally. They also have Arabic, Turkish, German, Greek, Italian, Swahili and French.
Si hablas español y quieres aprender inglés, LanguageTransfer tiene un curso para eso.
It really explains grammar in a way that makes sense, helps you see parallels between your language and your target language, and helps you discover useful patterns.
A fair warning, at least for Spanish, the first episode was him talking about how important and superior the series is. It’s annoying, but after that it really, really does help. So give it a chance.

Here is an app that is good for teaching grammar of a language in a very interesting way. I find it a bit difficult to explain just how language it does so I will just say check it out!
It has many languages like Swahili, Turkish, Arabic, and Spanish.
If anyone has had any experience with any languagetransfer.org courses, I’d love to hear their thoughts. From what I understand, the courses on the site work kind of like Pimsleur but free. Does this seem right? Probably more importantly, are there any hidden fees? Thanks so much!
