April marked the first month of me dabbling in the langblr community, and I’m really amazed by all the amazing, motivated people on here! I love seeing how you all study and appreciate the valuable tips, information and resources you share 😍 I’m a bit shy, but I’ll try to interact more!
April language-related highlights
Norwegian (9/22 posts for April wotd challenge)
Listened to three podcasts from norskbloggen and… actually understand around 60-70% of what was being said!?
Read articles for the April wodt challenge about topics ranging from hiking safety to ASMR to dream analysis
Japanese (12/22 posts for April wotd challenge)
Spoke to my former Japanese teacher on the phone for over 30 minutes
Watched Japanese figure skating coverage and read several articles about figure skating, using them as a basis for vocab lists
Dutch + Flemish (5/22 posts for April wotd challenge)
Chatted with a colleague from the Netherlands
Watched three episodes of the Flemish drama Déjà Vu with Dutch subtitles. Since the Dutch subs don’t always match up with the spoken Flemish, I often rewind and listen to the dialog multiple times.
Language-related goals for May
Finish April wotd challenge (8 words)
2-3 (photo)journal entries weekly
Find a private Norwegian teacher or tandem - I need to practice speaking 😅
Watch and take vocab notes on Japanese interviews about everyday topics (ex. videos from That Japanese Man Yuta, かずえちゃん)
Review my notes for Power-Grammatik Niederländisch (maybe create some grammar posts)
The past month was quite busy for me. Some of my April highlights not related to studying my target languages:
Had a project I helped my project group at work apply for receive funding from the German government 🎉.
Began a new hip stretching and strengthening routine at the advice of my orthopedist 🤞🏽
Received my first Covid vaccine 💉
Completed my first two paid interpreting assignments, where I supported newly arrived refugees at medical appointments 🏥
Hope everyone has fun in their studies/work/life in the upcoming weeks and stays healthy!
