Writer ask meme thingy
For the writer meme, nightmarestudio606 ask 1, 4, 8, and 13.
1. of the fic you’ve written, which are you most proud of? Maybe because it was the first Garrus and Zaeed story, maybe because the inspiration for it was so unexpected and eye-opening, maybe because it came out just like I wanted and everything fell into place as I was writing it, but Barefoot, in Blue Jeans is probably my favorite. I love the way the boys interact, tease and flirt with each other, and give each other shit. Also I liked exploring this idea of falling in love and being vulnerable and open to someone else and how that resonates so nearly universally. I love how Zaeed just bumbles his way through admitting his feelings and how Garrus just embraces it and him wholeheartedly and from then on there's no looking back. There might be doubts about all the other stuff concerning how to proceed with their lives, but from that point they're in it together come hell or high water.
4. what are some themes you love writing about? I'm pretty comfortable writing domestic stuff, interactions in a relationship, trying to (and not always getting it right) work through things. I like showing moments in time, brief little visits into a daily life. I also like exploring this whole idea of being vulnerable, but still moving forward, taking strength from where you can, protecting the ones who maybe can't help themselves. Oh, and smut is great to write too.
8. is there a character you love writing for the most? the least? why? Garrus is just silly fun to write. He's a little finicky, a little nervous, a little unsure of himself, but when he finds something he wants and is given the green light, he's 100% at it full tilt. Garrus has a way of embracing life that I envy. Also, in the story I'm working on now, Kasumi is along for the ride and she's proving to be challenging and fun. I'm glad she's there.
13. who are your favorite writers? OK, this list could get pretty long, so I'm going to limit it to 5 that have influenced me in some way.
Defira was one of the first fanfic writers that sucked me into the entirety of their works. I started with SWTOR, then after I ate all of that, I moved on to Mass Effect (before I had played the game). And after I had eaten all of that, I read all her Dragon Age (before I had played the game). She weaves a story so well, it's never a waste of time to read whatever she puts out there. I blame her for my Zaeed obsession, even though that probably wasn't her intention. (AO3)
Jupiter James and her amazing AU Burn Down the Sky made me appreciate that an AU can be a worthy cause. Shepard and Kaidan are broken and fallible and still manage to make things work. Also, sexy firefighters. So duh. (AO3)
laloga writes amazing OC Star Wars Clones and Jedi. She's prolific and so good at it that I'm a little jealous, but not so much that I don’t squee when a new chapter hits my inbox. (AO3)
sorrowfulcheese has an amazing f!shep/Zaeed series that's dark and moody and sexy and is also probably partway responsible for my Zaeed obsession. Another writer I'm slightly jealous of as far as writing style goes. (AO3)
221b-carefulwhatyouwishfor and directedbysherlock both write Sherlock in a way that make it look easy. Also they're pretty much the best friends a person could ever ask for, and have encouraged me to put myself out there and to keep going. They are amazing. (221b on AO3) (directed on AO3)
Ok, I lied. That was 6.
