I’m a little confused. Are Finrod; the rock opera and The Lay of Leithan two separate musicals? Cuz looking at their Vk pics I see pictures of what I thought were from lay of Leithan on the Finrod page and Vice versa?
(Also if you have any links to some English subbed YouTube videos I’d appreciate them 🙏🏻)
They are two separate musicals! But I understand, they do appear similar in photos.
Do be careful though, the rivalry between the Finrod and Leithian creative teams runs deep. The fandom doesn't care, we love them both, but just be aware.
The Finrod rock opera was written in the early 2000s, and has gained a lot of popularity recently- especially because they have an entire subtitled performance on YouTube! You can watch it here.
They have also started broadcasting their performances live! Right now we have 6 recordings- 4 from late 2022, and 2 from last weekend. They are not subtitled, but I'm working on it, I promise. If you are interested in purchasing them, message me and I can arrange it. You can follow along using @quixoticanarchy's Ao3 translation as external subtitles.
In the meantime, here is a clip from a performance of Finrod in October 2022, as a preview.
The Lay of Leithian rock opera is more recent- it was written as a one-woman bardic performance in the early 2000s, but it was adapted into a musical in late 2020, and celebrated its 2nd anniversary this past weekend. They have 6 recordings in total, 3 of which are fully subtitled (I'm hoping to publish another set of subtitles this weekend). You can find that full list here, which includes purchase links. Subtitles are always free.
The last one on that list- the oldest- I have made available for free on YouTube. It was their first time broadcasting and has a lot of sound issues and a missing section, but I have lovingly recorded and restored it to the best of my ability.
I've also published a bunch of subtitled Leithian clips on Tumblr- you can find them in my subtitles tag, here.
Hope this helps? I'm always happy to answer any questions you have about either of them.
