the ballad of tam lin is one of my favorite pieces of historical fiction ever (as in fiction from the past not the novel genre) because it starts with a lady dolling herself up and then strutting into a forest that’s allegedly haunted by a hot territorial ghost so she can go “ohhhh noooo look at little ole me out here ALL ALONE….. i sure hope no MAGICAL FREAKY FOREST MAN emerges from the TREES and comes FUCKS ME!!!” shout out to you janet, pioneering the way for freaks everywhere in some form since the year of our lord 1549

#obviously i AM glad not to be tithed to hell. like. that IS a clear upside to not being the favorite of the faerie queen. #and to be honest my wife is a better conversationalist. much less likely to lose her temper and curse you to speak frogs for a week. #but like. i'm a complex creature. #and sometimes a man DOES miss the undying court where the very leaves rang like silver chimes under the full moon.
