Dojo tournament this weekend. Leaning toward Kanku Dai (Kusanku Dai) as my kata.
Originally intended Kanku Sho, but the landing after the jump has been hell on my wrist lately.
Kanku Dai/Kusanku Dai is not formally a part of our style, but many of us are familiar and have learned it. The interpretation we learned is the same as Nakazato Sensei demonstrates in this video, but some of the movements are executed slightly differently. For example, at the end he brings his knee up before the turn rather than turning and then driving it upward. Or some of his hand techniques move along a slightly different trajectory.
Just that tiny tweak is enough to get one thinking about several new bunkai options, which is always fun to see.
