Casting Call
Paul Kotowski (currently played by Eric Close)
Kotowski was originally 'cast' as Mark Wahlberg, leading to increasing descriptions of his short stature and shorter fuse. When it came to putting "Partnered" out to the public, however, Wahlberg seemed to clash with his would-be costars. He would then be replaced by Close's camaraderie with already cast actor Enrique Murciano (Jordan). But history still labels Wahlberg as 'Kotowski' and Eric Close as the 'poor man's choice', despite the actual outcome.
"Fine, it stays in here," he agreed amiably, "Plus Jordan, because we practice full disclosure in our relationship."
Profile: Detectives Kotowski and Jordan
Paul Kotowski and Chris Jordan were not always partners, though you wouldn't know it to look at them. The synchronization they've developed in their actions, words, and thoughts is by now too natural to be planned, speaking to their easy-going -- but intensely felt -- camaraderie, and not a hint to their slightly rougher beginnings.
They keep each other in line, and are well-matched in all things; a suited team for the titular "Partnered". As the quote suggests, there are no secrets between them. In a way, they're a background hint at everything that Laurie and Maggie have not yet achieved in their own teamwork.
Kotowski is, undoubtedly, the louder; a brash, vulgar, and perpetually half-shouting character, he also manages to be brave, honest, and remarkably hard to shake. He often appears to not know how to lie, and can always be trusted upon to say exactly what's on his mind-- immediately as it comes to him, which is more than occasionally ill-timed. But in the difficult work the station takes on, it can almost be a breath of fresh air. Or, at least, a breath of swearing.
Despite Jordan's propensity to not say many words, he's not the pompous or timid person he was once accused of being — by his future partner, Kotowski — but an eager and enthusiastic participant. Though when he does speak, it's usually to his partner, and it's usually to indicate something Kotowski has said wrong. Jordan does not speak unnecessarily; if it's something straightforward, he won't waste time saying it. His respect for his colleague's intelligence consistently determines how much need to be said between them-- and quite often it's very little.
Both are proficient with their police issued weapons, and, though Kotowski has fired his before, neither have killed.
