Dormia’s Magic System!!👀⚔️⚡️
In Dormia, there are only three main ways mundanes can use and harness magic
1) Born with it
People born with magic are known as elementals, people like your tieflings, genasi's, genies, changelings, and in some cases Elves. These are the ones who are born with the ability to control and harness certin magic, and depending on there traits and genetics take no side effects from using that magic. Furthermore, people born with magic don't need a Pateon or Amulet to learn spells from spellbook. (edited)
2) Patrons
The second and most common amount citizens of Dormia is Patrons. Which is essentially a lifelong pact with a higher deity in return for magic and guidance.
You often see Patrons with Clerics, Warlocks, and Wizards. Another prime example of a Patron is those within in the Sangem Cult as all of them despite being religious followers as-well, gain their magic from Sangem in return for something. Which often times is simply loyalty to the cult. Though using this magic always comes with quite the cost
3) Artifacts/Runes/and Artificers
The third and final way of mortals gaining magic is through runes and artifacts-Magic Items often made by higher beings and or Artificers)
There are hundreds if not thousands of artifacts throughout all of Dormia, most are essential for living, made from city wide artificers and business. But some can be deadly, some made by artificers for power, others from Gods and or Demons.
Because while surviving on your own is a big part of humanity in Dormia, artifacts and magic are what keep them alive.
The Exceptions....
While those are the three most common and beneficial ways for someone in Dormia to gain magic, it is not the only way. There are some and few exceptions.
1) Gods
While this one is kind of obvious, its important to note all Gods are considered the highest of beings and void any rules of the Magic System. Also once named a God by another God, it can never be reversed, and no God is Higher than any God. Aside from the leader, which in Dormia is Helm. The Goddess of Life
2) Religion
While many Clerics are religious and gain magic from
Patrons with the God's they worship. (Ex: Eriz)
There are also other religions, like druids, shaman, and monks that gain magic from other religious means and deity's, like Nature or Animals.
3) Dark Magic...
Before the One Hundred Years war, when Sangem was still creating the Magic System the people of Dormia now live by, he made a mistake. A grave mistake. And this mistake was known as the Drow. Or Dark Elves.
These elves were unique because Drow unlike most living things had a core of Sangem's highly condensed magic as a heart, spinning in rotation within there chest. And at first, they behaved, they followed the rules, lived, learned, and worked like anyone else. But one day, instincts took over. Because unlike Sangem's magic, instead of taking your own life force away for power, they gained power by taking others lives away; essentially this knowledge made them power hungry and blood thirsty. They lost control. So Sangem Banished them to the Scarrs and cursed the race with inability to be touched by sunlight. Or they'd burn to ashes in a bright light of execution.
They rotted away there on the Scarrs, unable to leave.
But as the race died off, leaving few left and less known of. They left there artifacts, runes, and teachings hidden in all areas of the Sangem Eye where people can find and harness its sickening power for themselves.
Forbidden. Powerful. Magic.
