if we go off of what roux song says ab how before kooshma came to him, he was all sad, had a lot of guilt and was basically the opposite of who he is now..
its safe to say at one point he was just an average man which is so funny to me, im probably wrong but just imagining him working a 9-5 and doing things like a regular person is so silly
tbh roux is no better than me id go with kooshma too if it meant not having to go to work anymore
Break from the jojo stuff, have my favourite South of Midnight characters
I think I’ll do a mini-long post about South of Midnight! It’s sooo much to talk about!! Now that I’ve fully watched my fave’s completion of the game.
But first, I want to watch the walkthrough again with a handy dandy notebook and pen because it’s so much to write down (with my thoughts and to jot what the game has introduced me to etc.). This is an experience of a game—good ol game! So I’ll be rewatching more than once. [first watch I was in complete awe and mesmerized by the beauty visually and the look while also trying to make sure I paid attention. so the second watch will be with more intent to the history and storyline of Hazel and Hazel and her mom and her family history and the third time will be on an instructive watch to get the storytelling and history of the world they created and the aspect of all the characters and how they intersect with Hazel.]
Before I do…I just gotta say a quick thing.
Koushma (or Kooshma)! Them mentioning Kooshma! My childhood is all up in through this game! The research they dedicated to capturing Southern (Louisiana) folklore keeps impressing me. I was not expecting that!
Koosh-ma (like mah), not Koosh-muh [the mispronunciation of Kooshma was like sandpaper but that’s alright lol! it would fluctuate b/w characters saying it how I’ve always heard it said and the non-Southern way]
(🔗 to video)
I mean there are so many other nods to my childhood so yeah, I’ll do a post in the future! And in general for the game as a whole!
*btw yall hear Ms. Celestine’s country, Southern accent?! This is what I look forward to whenever a character is from Louisiana! She sounds just like my momma and auntie! Well, regional accents are very important to capture so I won’t generalize it but the catfish in the game did a real good job at getting the accent and dialect of the South! I’m pretty sure, without actually looking into it, the fictional town, Prospero, has to be inspirationally based in or close around Louisiana! The catfish’s accent is very southeast Louisiana.
Roux by Olivier Deriviere
Lyrics of Roux (feat. Craig Robinson) by Olivier Deriviere
[verse] See, once I too was just like you I′d rue the things I didn't do I′d chew on every little wrong Guilt from crimes was too strong At night, I'd lie awake in bed And ponder what I should have said Regret would dog me all life long All I did just felt so wrong Until Kooshma came along
This here town is dreams and fog A place you write your epilogue I attest his magic's real Come take a spin now ′cause time′s a wheel And Kooshma makes you quite a deal
[chorus] Dream maker, kingmaker, lord of fog and chance Spin the wheel and make a wish, there's no payment in advance Kooshma′s master, power vaster, no one comes close to him All are welcome to stay forever, time to sink or time to swim, ha!
[verse] Mojo town is as it seems Here they're not over, all your dreams Your wrong turns are not taken yet Just make a wish and then forget So what′s on offer with this proffer? Choose an ending, you're the author Old mistakes become successes Over your choices, he obsesses Until Kooshma comes along
[chorus] Dream maker, kingmaker, lord of fog and chance Spin the wheel and make a wish, there′s no payment in advance Kooshma's master, power vaster, no one comes close to him All are welcome to stay forever, time to sink or time to swim
Dream maker, kingmaker, lord of fog and chance Spin the wheel and make a wish, there's no payment in advance Oh, Kooshma master, power vaster, no one comes close to him All are welcome to stay forever, time to sink or time to swim
[outro] Until Kooshma came along!

I do find South of Midnight's choice of having a devil figure (Roux) being the one working for a mare-type being (kooshma) instead of the other way around.
Given devils are usually given more importance/rank than things like sleep paralysis/nightmare demons.
Granted our devil figure still has much more presence as a character than his boss.
