No, this title is not the joke itself. We are VERY aware that Germans are not associated with humor, but it might surprise you to know that there are a fair amount of German comedians out there. From political commentators to song-writers, there is a little bit of something for everyone. Here’s our list of German comedians you need to know!

Flula Borg

Let’s start off with someone you may already know. Flula is a German comedian here in the United States who pokes fun at German cultural norms and language. One of his most successful video series is “German with a German” where he questions the logic behind and acts out German words and phrases. He has also frequented the stage of Conan O’Brien and was in the most recent Pitch Perfect movie.

Otto Waalkes

Otto is a little old school but the hero of our childhoods. Often spoofing already well-known characters like Little Red Riding Hood or playing the part of multiple people, he was equal parts actor, musician, and comedian. One of his most famous features was the 'Ottifanten' ('Ottiphants'), elephant-like comic characters of his own design.

Anke Engelke

Best known for her regular appearances on Die Wochenshow (German version of Saturday Night Live) or the sketch comedy show Ladykracher, Anke Engelke has also given voice to some of the most famous cartoon characters in their German versions--such as Dory in Finding Nemo or Marge in The Simpsons.

Jan Böhmermann

Jan Böhmermann is a political satirist and host of the well known show Neo Magazine Royale. Think of him as the German Seth Meyers. "If your intentions are clear and your motives are clear, you can make fun of anything," he said.

Jürgen von der Lippe

Jürgen von der Lippe (stage name) is German television presenter, entertainer, actor and comedian. Similar to American comedians like Demetri Martin or Adam Sandler, he intermittently breaks out his guitar for comedic song during his performances.

Ilka Bessin

Having won the German equivalent of Last Comic Standing in 2004, Bessin’s career as a comedian and actress began later than some. She’s best known for playing the character Cindy aus Marzahn, Marzahn being a blue collar town in East Germany, on her own comedy show.

Bastian Pastewka

Bastian Pastewka is another alumni of the sketch comedy show Die Wochenshow. His trademarks included quirky, off-beat characters such as talk show host Brisko Schneider and Ottmar Zittlau, an unemployed, sweatsuit-wearing dimwit.

Kaya Yanar

Born to Turkish immigrants, Kaya Yanar is a German comedian, best known for his one-man comedy show Was guckst du?! (What’re you looking at?!) He can even perform stand up in multiple languages!

Vicco von Bülow, a.k.a. Loriot

Last, but not least the all-time favorite: Loriot who has entertained generations of Germans with his subtle and self-deprecating humor in various sketches and movies.

Har på sista tiden känt att jag vill uppmärksamma saker som förtjänar det. En sådan sak är komikern Johan Petersson, han är en sådan person som man ser i saker hela tiden men som man aldrig kommer ihåg vad han heter eller vad mer han är med i. Här kommer i alla fall lite uppskattning.

Här är han i alla fall. Det senaste han varit med i (vad jag vill minnas) är café bärs som är en utav de bästa svenska komedi serier som gjorts på senare år.

Café bärs blev en egen serie från att ha varit ett inslag i partaj som Johan ledde tillsammans med Christine Meltzer och där han även parodierar Jarmo med "bastuklubben", arga snickaren samt Zlatan.

Innan det här var han även kapten filling och en av huvudkaraktärena tillsammans med Markoolio i doktor mugg, en fantastisk serie.

Sist men inte minns, hans absolut bästa roll. Runar Tvålfager i Hem till Midgård, antagligen seriens bästa karaktär i en redan helt otrolig serie.
