Koko’s Commitment to User Privacy
Hi, it’s the team at Koko.
We’ve noticed some misunderstandings circulating about what we do at Koko and with Kokobot on Tumblr.
We’d like to assure you:
Koko is confidential.
Koko does not collect identifiable information, like your IP address or device ID, unless you choose to share it.
Koko will never sell your content or data.
Koko is a non-profit organization dedicated to accessible mental health resources.
First things first – your privacy is incredibly important to us. We never, ever sell your data — and we never have. And we don’t collect information that could personally identify you unless you choose to share it, including things like your IP address, device ID, or Tumblr account info. Our integration with Tumblr was designed with privacy in mind, and we’re committed to keeping it that way.
Second, Koko is a non-profit organization, registered in the U.S. under 501(c)(3) status. We’re funded through donations, which allow us to continue offering our services for free. And just to be clear, we’re not affiliated with Airbnb or any other company. The Koko team is a small, diverse group from all over the world. Many of us have lived experience with mental health struggles. Our goal is simple: to make mental health resources accessible to everyone who needs them.
Most people use Koko to gain perspective on things they’re going through, like talking with a friend. If our system detects someone in crisis, it steps in to guide them to resources like crisis lines for immediate help. Our systems are not always perfect, and we’re working on them every day. That’s why we also have human moderators who help ensure everyone feels safe and supported.
