Thinking about Ezran (specifically in S7, but in general) and how despite being the series' most prominent Witness — the Truth-teller, the Embodiment of Justice — I think this comparison indicates Ezran's biggest internal flaw in how he handled Runaan.
When something happens and it's not what Ezran wanted, when he's emotionally overwhelmed, he runs away (1x02, 2x08). He looks away. He doesn't visit Runaan while the elf is imprisoned because he doesn't actually want to even see him suffering. He just wants, intellectually (and cobbled together emotionally) to know that Runaan is. That he's sad, that he's separated, that he's as literally chained down as Ezran feels like he, himself, is.
ZUBEIA: When you spoke, it was as though you could see my own heart and my pain. And the truth of you seeing that somehow made it feel less. It felt like healing.
Something something Ezran has to take off his blindfold that's obscuring his vision in S7, and he has to put it (his father's) back on at the same time

obsessed with Claudia going "What's different about this?" to Terry in 7x04, but she admits by the end of the episode privately that "I knew he'd leave once found out"
