I've written a new thing
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
So, I've been compiling this document of Puyo related headcannons with @ramonabluecat and I figured I'd share my part of this here so here are
TangyDreadâs Weird/Funny and Random Headcannons/Scenarios (Yes, almost all of these are very chaotic):
Klug has arachnophobia but wasnât born with this fear
He used to make fun of others and then eventually just Raffina for having stupid fears.
Cue this happening to Klug sometime between 15th and 20th Anniversary (Back when he had Crinis and Prominence as spells (As in how he dealt with the aftermath)): https://www.reddit.com/r/tifu/comments/4j16uh/tifu_by_taking_a_shower/
Then cue him going from no fear to deathly afraid
The reason why Amitie canât take her hat off is because thereâs a little creature hiding underneath it. Sheâs aware somethingâs in there but doesnât know what.
When and if she eventually finds out about it, she names it Fluffy
Sig has a tendency to never use the front door when heâs going to his friendâs houses, preferring reverse, self-inflicted defenestration.
Amitie and Lidelle have gotten used to it (Sig cares about not scaring Lidelle specifically)
Raffina keeps complaining about this
Klugâs the only one whoâs banned him from doing this for the simple reason that the first and only time this ever happened was while he was in the shower. (Yes, this shouldnât be feasibly possible but Sigâs a) unobservant and b) determined) (And I also headcannon that Klug lives in a 2 story house, and his bathroom is not on the 1st floorâŚ) (So yes, I do ship SigKlug, why do you ask?)
Sigâs just a lot more chaotic in my head than he is in canon
This is how Ally and Rafisol are when theyâre alone: I DON'T HAVE UNO!!! (but it's Ally and Rafisol) || puyopost
Klug has a Tumblr account
Aya doesnât particularly like Klug but will protect him with their life if they have to
Klug is gay (Iâm convinced this is actually canon and will stay this way until proven otherwise by canon)
PUYO PUYO MAGICAL GIRL AU (But the guys are forced into this too):
All of the girls find this kind of cool (I canât think of any exceptions here)
Now, onto the guys:
Sig honestly doesnât really care but finds it cute (Outfit would just be pretty similar to Sailor Moonâs but with a ladybug motif)
Klug (and by extension Aya)/Schezo HATES this (Think âPretty, Pretty Please I Donât Want to be a Magical Girlâ but more blunt hatred of the whole âbeing a magical girlâ thing) (Outfit either being just a maid dress for Schezo and the most overly cute, frilly dress imaginable for Klug (This could be applicable for all of the guys honestly))
Lemres is initially uncomfortable but gets used to it (Outfit being similar to his Christmas Tree Quest alt)
Maguro initially doesnât like it either but gets really into it after a certain point (That point being Ringo really liking his outfit) (Outfit being close to the Scarlet Witch)
Satan FULLY embraces this (Outfit is literally just Sailor Moon)
Feel free to reblog this with your own headcannons! :)
And also I copy/pasted all of this so the formatting is off and idk how to fix it (It looks fine when I'm in the post editor)
(OOC: The Last Time Aya Paid Sig to Mess With Klug (This is a continuation of the conversation in this post)) -TangyDread, RamonaBlueCat
Wait, what happened?
How do you not remember what happened!? For FIVE DOLLARS, you came into my bathroom and scared the hell out of me while I was taking a shower!
Oh
Look, I thought it'd be funny, and it was!
No, it was not! It was creepy and kind of weird! Sig, why did you accept their bribe?
Five dollars is five dollars. And I had to go to the bathroom anyway.
whatâs your opinion on multi-track drifting?
What did I just watch?
(OOC: We looked up what Multi-track drifting was and we have very little idea on what it isâŚ) -RamonaBlueCat
(OOC: I think I kind of get it, but it's still confusing. Also here's a link to the video Aya showed Klug: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCDYZZZyu8Y) -TangyDread

Hiiii! Klug can I pleeeeeeease get the answers to yesterdayâs homework?
Iâm, um, asking for a friend!
Why are you asking as anonymous? I know thatâs you Amitie.
hey crimson piece of garbage soul
just how much of a theater kid are you?
Weren't you you just singing this in the shower like 10 minutes ago? Don't lie to them.
...
Also, wait, what did you just cross out?
(OOC: it would seem that Aya doesnât know the name of the blog) -RamonaBlueCat
I want to talk! About Klug! And how I think heâs an excellent narrative foil to the ENTIRE PRIMP ARS TRIO!
First of all, a basic definition on literary/narrative foils, courtesy of Wikipedia:
In any narrative, a foil is a character who contrasts with another character, typically, a character who contrasts with the protagonist, in order to better highlight or differentiate certain qualities of the protagonist. A foil to the protagonist may also be the antagonist of the plot.
(also disclaimer it has been like a decade since I last took a literature class and also Iâm fairly new to the puyo fandom so Iâm sorry if my analysis here is off but like. Foils make me excited and I just love the way these four characters play off each other)
So! For a character to be a foil, they have to have a bunch of similarities, and then a couple key contrasting points. The contrasting points really are the key here: after all, the foil serves to point out those qualities in the protag.Â
The most obvious similarities in these four characters is that theyâre all the same age, at the same school, and doing very similar things. That makes it really easy to compare them, and leads the reader/viewer/player to compare them quite easily. And, as the ARS trio are all protagonists, and Klug serves more as a secondary character or antagonist, heâs in an excellent position to serve as a foil. The others (especially Raffina) can probably also serve as foils to one another, but⌠this isnât about them. This is about Klug.
At this point, Iâm going to go through character by character, since what might be a difference for one character is a similarity for another.
Left: Happy Fairy Amitie; Right: Lucid Stargazer Klug
Amitie and Klug
These two have a lot of differences. Amitie is friendly, energetic, and scatterbrained; Klug is explicitly referred to as someone whoâs unpleasant and annoying, but has excellent grades and never forgets an assignment.Â
But these two also have a major similarity that none of the other Primp students share- a very strong, passionate dream to become an amazing magic-user. For Amitie, this is much more nebulous of a dream: she just says that she wants to be an âamazingâ or âwonderfulâ sorceress, and itâs never really elaborated on, as far as I know, for what she means by that. But her goal, in the end, seems to be to become a professional mage- and probably one who makes everyone around her happy. Klug, on the other hand, has a much more concrete goal- to be a powerful and famous dark mage, just like Lemres. And it is in how they push towards these goals that their differences really shine. Klug spends all of his time studying and earning the best grades he can, while Amitie spends more time having fun and enjoying time with others. Klug stays up late and is determined to not waste a second of his time; Amitie believes that as long as you keep trying, you can do it. These viewpoints are the most obvious in their respective character songs.Â
Amitie:Â
Anyone can feel a bit down,
When youâre chasing your dreams.
Itâs ok,
Itâs ok,Â
Itâs ok
They can come true, thatâs what I hear!
âŚ[singing about puyo]...
When I erase them [puyo], for some reason, I smileâŚ!
Always, donât forget, smiles are important
And if you work hard, your dreams will come true
Your dreams will come trueâŚ!
(not entirely sure on some of that but I couldnât find a proper translation so⌠you get my attempt at it.)
Meanwhile, most people probably know about Nebula Step but.
Klug:
This absolutely incredibl[e] exhaustion,
could, maybe, be the result of me overdoing my daily studies...
But, okay, just, look! I have no time to make excuses!
Or am I really supposed to just turn off my brain and rest...?
And, okay, maybe I sometimes feel down - Okay, maybe a lot of times.
I overdo my training and end up dead-tired.
It will come down to whether I can make it all worth it in the end!
Right, no matter what anybody says,
It's all up to me, all up to how I feel about it, right?
(translation by Nenilein)
They both believe in hard work, but one of them believes in smiling and having fun while the other one IS SINGING ABOUT BURNOUT AND DEPRESSION. SIR YOU NEED A THERAPIST.
And so they both work towards their goals, overcoming their similar yet opposite obstacles: Amitie has lots of power but very little control, while Klug has average amounts of power (which he seems to think is not enough; more on that later), and seemingly excellent control and technique (or at least, knowledge of the theories).Â
So thatâs about all I have for Amitie and Klug. Next upâŚ
Left: Diligent Raffina; Right: Diligent Klug
Klug and Raffina
Oh boy, these two. Theyâre obviously very similar in attitude; both of them are extremely prideful, and both care quite a bit about their grades. Also, theyâre both quite prone to jumping to conclusions, and getting very angry when someone makes a slight against them; or even implies it. (Amitie stumbles into that trap a LOT.) Theyâre also both tsundere; they normally act tsun-tsun (prickly), and will occasionally be caught acting dere-dere (sweet/lovey; for these two, usually just soft/kind) before they get SUPER EMBARRASSED and go back to being tsun-tsun. Lidelle (not Amitie) has succeeded in getting them to admit that they are, in fact, friends with Amitie a grand total of One (1) time. (Drama CD 7-1, Amitie's Friends) So yeah. Very, very similar when it comes to attitude.Â
Raffina: "Who would lie about something so embarrassing?!"
Klug: "My face is so hot, it feels like it'll burn off...!"
Iâd like to note here that also, at least in the Puzzle Pop profiles, Raffinaâs mentions that she âhas a heart of goldâ. While we havenât seen much of it, Klug can be nice sometimes, too⌠itâs just not as common to see as Raffina. Not that itâs particularly common to see either of them being purely nice.
Theyâre quite different in what qualities they see as important; Klug only cares about intelligence, while Raffina strives to be well-rounded. They are both very aware of their differing qualities, and butt heads on this a lot. And a potential reason for this comes in a rather complicated similarity/difference combination; their magical abilities.
In-universe, very few people know that Raffina is low-magic, and has to use her pouch to cast magic. Meanwhile, Klug has average magical ability, but sees it as still not enough (at least partially because heâs comparing himself to people like Amitie and Sig, who are serious outliers), which leads him to using the Tome of Sealing to increase his magical ability. Raffina is actually dependent on her pouch, while Klug would probably be fine (or maybe better) without the Tome. And so, perhaps a bit of a leap of logic here, but I think one of the reasons Raffina strives so hard to be well-rounded is due to her lack of magic. If something were to happen to her pouch, sheâd be dependent on other things to survive. Klug, however, would only struggle when it comes to magic if something happened that affected magic for the majority of people- or if something major happened to him.
Raffina also specifically does not draw attention to her pouch. It's fashionable, but low-profile and blends in with her clothing. She doesn't wave it around or anything when she casts spells- it simply sits on her hip, silently allowing her to cast magic. Klug, on the other hand, is constantly waving around the Tome, and drawing attention to it. He talks a lot about "this book I have", and pretty much everyone knows that it's special in some way. Also, the Tome is red, while Klug's primary color scheme is purple, white, and yellow, causing the Tome to stand out much more than Raffina's pouch.
Itâs also neat to note here the differences between Raffinaâs pouch and Klugâs Tome of Sealing. The pouch is simply an object; it doesnât have any will, or attitude, or questionable/troubling goals, like the Tome does. The Tome is problematic enough to categorize Possessed Klug as an antagonist.Â
And thatâs all I have for these two, at least right now. I really, really like how they seem so similar, and yet are very distinctâŚ
Left: Allstar Academy Klug; Right: Allstar Academy Sig
Klug and Sig
Ah yes, the elephant in the room: the Demon of Arca. These two boys honestly donât have a ton in common, other than the fact that they both hold a part of the old Demon of Arca. But the differences when it comes to the fragments of souls they carry- and how those fragments interact with them- are major.
Sig never chose to have this power. He doesnât like thinking about it, doesnât like talking about it, and doesnât like the idea of it changing him further. But itâs a part of him, has changed him, and is not so easily removed. Klug, on the other hand, has chosen to borrow the Tome from the library; and has specifically chosen to keep the book, even after everything that has happened to him. He wants this power, even with all of its consequences. âŚnot that he necessarily knows what all of those consequences are.
Both of them have had to deal with some of the consequences of the red power, and Sigâs red power is much more problematic than Klugâs red power. "Signât" seeks destruction; Possessed Klug just wants to get âhisâ body back (and even then, doesnât seem to care that much).Â
Sig is forced to try and master the red power for his (and everyone else's) safety; Klug is trying to master it for his own gain. But also, Sig has a lot of support from people, especially when things go wrong; while Klug winds up left behind a lot, or saved as an afterthought. With Sig, everyone gets very concerned when heâs acting weird; with Klug, thatâs just Tuesday.Â
Interestingly, though, the red power seems to have a much stronger effect on Klug than on Sig. The Crimson Soul can, seemingly, freely possess Klug when heâs unconscious, and can even influence his thoughts and actions while heâs awake. Sig, on the other hand, can notice when his arm is being âloudâ, but has only really been âpossessedâ by it twice; once in Sigâs Secret, and once in Puzzle Pop, and in both situations, an external force facilitated the âpossessionâ.
And finally, Sig is aware when heâs possessed. The red power, if anything, makes him more aware of his surroundings. He mentions in Puzzle Pop that heâs aware the whole time that Amitie and her friends are trying to save him, and Dark Sig seems to be more âawakeâ than normal Sig. However, Klug is not aware of what happens when the Crimson Soul is in control. He was maybe (probably?) aware of what happened when he was possessed in Fever 2, but for every single instance (that I know of) after that (and thereâs a lot), he comes to afterwards and asks âwhat happened?â.Â
âââ
So⌠thatâs the end of that essay! I absolutely love how these characters compare to each other- and thereâs plenty of good contrasting material between the other characters, too! I might be just a little obsessed with Klug, though.Â
