I’m just afraid I’ll fuck it all up. Maybe he wouldn’t even want to marry me, I mean I’m a mess. I may be a helpful mess but that still doesn’t get rid of the mess part.

Very over the top romantic. Nice dinner, flowers, sentimental place (where they had their first kiss or first date kind of deal), sappy words said before whoever sinks down to one knee with a hidden photographer

C h a o t i c. Think middle of the battle, sweat, some blood, maybe they're fighting with their back pressed together. Kinda goes like "hey if we get out of here I'm marrying you." and the other saying "I'll hold you too it."

Soft. Slow dancing in their kitchen at three am. Maybe the radio is playing their favorite song or one of them is humming it under their breath. It's not a proposal like the first one, instead its more of a "let's get married" spoken softly between them

Written for the Klance positivity week prompt proposal/marriage. It’s definitely the sappiest, cutest Klance I’ve written to date!. Small preview below:

Lance splutters indignantly, “I do not have a scheming face!”

“You do, I’ve seen it way too many times. What could you possibly be scheming while I’m talking about my propo-”

It hits them both at the same time. Which is honestly quite unnerving as Lance should know before Allura that he wants to propose to his own boyfriend. Allura has to clap her hands over her mouth to stop an excited yell escaping, which she’s only half successful in doing, while Lance just stares in horror at his friend.

“How did I only just realise this?” he says, voice far out of it’s normal range.

“To be honest, I’m surprised it’s taken you this long, I was expecting you to cave before I did,” Allura says, hand still partially over her mouth in a way that means she’s desperately trying to control herself.

Lance shakes his head, trying to sort out his lightning-struck mind. Out of the immediacy of the revelation, he realises the notion is familiar. It’s not a stray thought, not something he’s never considered before. It’s more of an affirmation, an acknowledgement of a fact so obvious it doesn’t need voicing.

My name is Lance, I was born in July. I’m a Garrison pilot, former Paladin of Voltron. I love Keith Kogane, and I want to spend the rest of my life with him.

“Oohh,” he breathes, allowing the feelings to overflow.

You guys are hitting me with the sweet stuff today. SO CUTE. 

I like the idea of it as a team trip.

Everyone getting together for what Shiro likes to call a ‘team building exercise’. He and Hunk both have trucks that can be used as makeshift beds for about five so they don’t have to bring tents. Allura and Pidge and Hunk take Hunk’s truck, while Shiro offers his to Keith and Lance. He’ll use the hammock he brought so he’s set.

I can see Keith the type to like camping a lot. He’s used to roughing it so camping at an actual campsite with a truck bed to lay in is heaven compared to sleeping on the ground. He sets up sleeping bags and blankets and pillows for a nice night under the stars.

Pidge has a telescope set up so she can get a closer look at the moon while Hunk cooks up food on the campfire. Allura and Lance tell spooky tales over the fire. By the end of the night, everyone is cuddled up and ready for sleep. Lance and Keith whisper and point up at the constellations.

“You know what a star wins in a competition?” Lance asks with a barely containable smile.

“No what?”

“A constellation prize!” he grins and Keith snorts.

“That was bad, Lance,” Keith says.

“Let’s hear you do one better,” Lance rolls his eyes.

“Does it have to be about the stars?” Keith asks and Lance shakes his head. “Then…Knock-knock.”

“Oh god an old fashioned knock-knock joke,” Lance giggles. “You probably learned it from Shiro…alright, who’s there?”

“Mary,” Keith smiles and sits up.

“Mary, who?” Lance asks.

“Marry me?” Keith says and produces a ring in a box right before Lance’s wide eyes.

Lance scrambles to sit up and takes the ring box in hand. That’s…that’s a ring alright. A gold wedding ring. Wait–

“–did you just propose to me with a knock-knock joke?!” Lance exclaims as loud as he can while still whispering. His mouth keeps splitting wider and wider with an incredulous smile.

“Thought you’d appreciate it,” Keith smirks. “Was it good?”

“It was horrible! I loved it!” Lance beams and wraps Keith in a hug. “Of course! Yeah! Let’s do it! Let’s get married!”

The rest of the team hoots and cheers, apparently none of them were asleep. In fact, Shiro was taking video from his hammock. Pidge collects on a bet from Hunk, saying she knew he’d do it tonight and not tomorrow. They all congratulate them while Keith slides the ring onto Lance’s finger.

Ha! I love it. They totally would!

Keith and Lance met in high school at Garrison High, and began dating in their junior year.

In their Freshman and Sophomore year, they were constantly at each other’s necks, but then realized they actually just wanted to out do the other to impress them.

Therefore, they finally started dating.

After their senior year, the two were forced to split up due to the fact that they got into different colleges.

Keith went to Mamora College, while Lance went to University of Voltron.

The two didn’t let their distance keep them apart. They skyped almost every day, and would take turns once a month to visit their partner.

Skype calls!!

Lance and Keith would skype almost every day, aka, whenever they didn’t have a paper due or anything like that. On weekends where they weren’t visiting each other, they would end up calling super late, the conversations going until 2 or 3 am frequently.

One time, as Lance was rambling on about something that happened in school that day, Keith ended up falling asleep, his head on his desk, snoring quietly. Lance found it so adorable that he screenshotted it and made it his phone background, which he uses to tease and blackmail Keith to this day.

Visits!!

Though their visits were a bit rare, they were always super fun for Lance and Keith. Though Skype calls were nice to get them through the month, they were nothing compared to being in person.

Keith’s trip to Lance

When Keith visits Lance at his university, he is often roped into a game night with Lance’s roommate, Hunk. It was very fun for Lance and Hunk, and Keith pretended to not have fun, but he loved it. Lance could tell easily because Keith would occasionally let a laugh or smile slip.

After game night, if it wasn’t too late and Keith wasn’t too tired from the trip, the two would stay up late watching movies. The movies varied from rom coms (Lance’s favorites) to action movies. The two would often be found cuddling together as they watched, Lance usually leaning against Keith as Keith mindlessly played with Lance’s hair.

After the movie, the two would end up falling asleep in the same position.

Lance’s trip to Keith

Since Keith was lucky enough to have gotten a dorm to himself (his school was small), Lance and Keith got more alone time together there. They would usually just get a bunch of snacks and then talk or do other things, a movie often playing in the background. This is usually when Lance catches Keith up on everything that had happened to him. Keith always loved that part since he absolutely loved Lance’s voice.

Sometimes, if Keith made a snarky remark, Lance would throw something like a piece of popcorn at his face. Occasionally that would lead to Keith tackle hug Lance and pin him down as he tickled him.

Once it got late, the two would climb in bed together, and fall asleep as close as possible.

As time went on, Keith slowly realized how much he loved Lance. He slowly came to the conclusion that Lance was The One™️

Lance was visiting Keith one weekend. It was quite close to the end of the school year. Keith had everything prepared. He had the ring, he had the date planned. Everything was perfect.

It was a few hours after Lance had arrived...

“Hey, um, Lance? Can I, er, take you somewhere?” Keith asked Lance, his fingers nervously twitching. Lance raised an eyebrow.

“Wow, stuttering? Something wrong?” Lance asked, a bit taken back by the awkwardness of Keith’s speech.

“No! Not at all. Just come with me, okay?” Keith said. He took Lance’s hand and lead him out. Keith wandered to a very nearby park, holding Lance’s hand tightly.

Once they got there, the scene was beautiful. Keith took Lance to a small gazebo, overlooking a quiet pond. The sun was slowly beginning to set, making everything a bit of a gold color. Keith walked into the gazebo with Lance. “Pretty, right?” Keith asked.

“Yeah! It’s gorgeous!” Lance agreed happily, smiling a bit as he admired the view. With Lance’s back turned to him, Keith slowly got down on one knee and brought out the ring.

He opened the box as he said quietly, “Lance...”

Lance turned around and instantly gasped, his face going a bit of a red color. “Keith...! I-I... what are you doing?”
