@kitamai : ── “Do you have any bandages?” ── ( post-fight starters. )
THE WHITE NOISE IS BACK. it rages in kageyama’s mind like a merciless storm. his breathing sounds thunderous in his ears. physical pain is a distant, far-away concept. whereas it takes days, weeks, months to keep a clean streak, it takes mere seconds to shatter it. rationally, kageyama knows he should’ve just taken the punch, && keep walking. instead kageyama takes the punch--- then hits back. && he doesn’t stop until the group of guys collapse on the ground. kageyama can deal with slurs thrown at him. but when it’s at his entire team ?? no way. they shouldn’t be slandered for his orientation.
kageyama blinks when a voice reaches him. the setter glances over to see kita. ❝ i-- ❞ shame sears through his body. this isn’t how kageyama wants to be seen by someone he respects. keeping his eyes downcast, kageyama rummages through his bag. he still doesn’t register the busted knuckles. or the abrasion on the back of his left hand. ❝ yes, i do. ❞ kageyama draws out a packet of gauze bandages. quietly, he adds, ❝ i’m sorry you had to see that. it won’t happen again. ❞
