The sand makes a crunching noise when he grits his teeth to numb the pain. It echoes through him like a lighting bolt. The belt ripped the skin apart and Clint’s absolutely, one hundred percent sure that it will affect how he performs tonight in the ring.
“Jacques, come on-” he hears Barney plead, but Barney’s on the floor too. He didn’t get away with it either, his front tooth is chipped and Clint saw the swelling on his eye- it’ll take a long time before that black eye swells down and allows Barney to see out of his left eye again.
He hears the belt before he feels the pain again, but this time it ripples through his body even harder and he can’t help the scream that escapes his lips.

You thought that- that I could replace your mama and papa? Fucking! Wrong!”
The last two words blur out in Clint’s ears, because the belt strap hits him when Jacques pronounces them, and Barney yells out again, a moan as a foot steps onto his chest. “You bastard!”
“I suppose I tricked you into thinking I liked you, hein?”
Jacques spits, as he pulls the belt back into his hand, and Clint cries out before anything happens. When the buckle hits him in the shoulderblade he screams, though he knows nobody will come looking for them here- see no evil, do no evil, hear no evil and all that.
Shoving his belt back in place, Jacques shakes his head and leaves the boys lying in the dust. The pain radiates in Clint’s body and his hand shakes as he tries to reach for Barney, who’s crying out too. There are tears on their faces, but they’re as much rage, and pain, as they are fear. When Clint’s hand makes contact with Barney’s, he breaks down. They’d hoped that they could find some sort of salvation here, and all they found seemed to be damnation...
