Kelundir is ready to fight. He uses his weapons mainly as lances but occasionally throws them like spears. A couple thousand years of practice helps him do that even though their shape is not primarily meant for throwing.

Happy New Year everybody! Let‘s start this year’s posts with a photo of my beloved Gondolin & Dragons character Kelundir.

If the opportunity presents itself, I’d like to cosplay him again at some point this year, however, since I only plan on going to a limited number of conventions (Tolkien Tage, Elfia and MagicCon) plus hopefully our the_eldar_cosplay vacation, it’s not that likely. While I only have one fixed cosplan for this year – Gil-galad, whom I’ll certainly want to cosplay at the Elfia (and probably Annatar, the Eregion guard or Turgon the other day) –, I already have some plans for our cosplay vacation (I need more photos of the Eregion guard, plus I have at least one other vague new cosplan for that). And the cosplays for the Tolkien Days are also set. And at MagicCon I’ll probably wear something fitting for photosessions with the actors.

So we’ll see if Kel can make an appearance at some point this year! It’s not as if I don’t have any photos of him left to post. I just love this cosplay, it’s so comfortable!

Kelundir is my Nandor (D&D) OC who was part of the mounted patrol and basically spent the first 2000 years of his life on horseback chasing off orcs who dared to enter the realm of the Nandor.

So I’m very happy that I finally had the chance to get a couple of photos of Kelundir with a horse: _mathalin_ ‘s beautiful horse Heiður.

So as you might know my Gondolin & Dragons OC Kelundir is a lowly Nandor who somehow got swept up in the adventures of the Lords and Ladies of Gondolin (before/during the construction of the city). Looking for answers some of them journeyed to Cuivienen and since Kelundir was the only one at least partially knowing the way, he accompanied them.

On their way they had to fend off the attack of one of the Nameless, a deadly creature of shadow that smothers any light. In a Hail Mary (or rather Hail Varda) attempt Kelundir began chanting the words of an inscription from the dungeon cell that once held the creature, and against all odds (a very VERY lucky dice roll) stars began to form around him and their light held the Nameless back long enough for the others to close the door.

After arriving in Cuivienen they learned about a powerful group that used to be lead by the Star-crowned Guardian. When Princess Idril got incapacitated, Kelundir became desperate enough to go to the underground temple of the Star-crowned Guardian, hoping to find a way to help. He managed to enter the temple… and found himself surrounded by stars. After meeting two challenges he came to at the highest point of the city – and is now, apparently, the new Star-crowned Guardian.

From the moment it happened, I was itching to turn that into a cosplay, at least for a quick photoshoot with tripod, and that’s what I did yesterday. Here is the first photo. It won’t be the last, I got a couple good ones out of it but of course with such an otherworldly scene, it requires heavy editing which’ll take a bit of time.

In yesterday's Gondolin and Dragons session we started out trapped in a room in a tower with a terrifying creature of pure darkness with dozens eyes and slashing claws waiting for us outside. Something had made most of us fall asleep in this room and when we came to, we decided to try and trap the creature in there and maybe have it fall asleep or at least weaken it... at least long enough til it would be day because it was a night of new moon.

The dwarf with fire spells in our group was basically the only one who could hurt this creature, possibly Idril with her light attacks as well, but it would give as good (or better) as it got. The rest of us would be useless, we tried to attack it with swords the session before and an attack roll of 22 didn't even hit it.

So the dwarf played bait while we all stood to the walls until it passed, to sneak out.

When we opened the door it attacked the dwarf who held his own with his fire spell, but once we were all outside we didn't quite manage to close the door.

When it was my turn I let my OC Kelundir concentrate and silently chant the inscription in the room "the stars enforce the peace/quietude".

And against all odds (same roll of two d20s) Kel succeeded and somehow summoned a shower of tiny lights resembling the stars which held the creature back until we could close the door.
