Judas and the Black Messiah is directed by Shaka King who co-wrote the script with Will Berson and Kenny and Keith Lucas. The film stars Daniel Kaluuya, Lakeith Stanfield, Jesse Plemons, Dominique Fishback, Ashton Sanders, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Lil Rel Howery, Algee Smith, and Martin Sheen. The film tells the story of the life of Fred Hampton (Kaluuya) chairman of the Chicago chapter of the Black Panther Party in the late 1960’s and the eventual betrayal by William O’Neal (Stanfield), the FBI informant inside the Black Panther Party. I learned a lot from this film that I never really knew or grew up learning about and it was shocking. The title of the film felt appropriate for the history and the story that this is based on. Judas and the Black Messiah is a heavy hitting, heartfelt, thriller of a film that tells a story that should be told for audiences to learn about and discover. 

The performances in this film from the two leads are without a doubt terrific and amazing. Both Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield give the performances of their careers in this film. Kaluuya has an aura of power and charisma that he brings to life in his portrayal of Fred Hampton onto screen. Not to be outdone is Stanfield who delivers this anxious and tension driven performance where you feel like his character William O’Neal is on the verge of cracking and letting it all out, but Stanfield holds all that in with his amazing performance. I also want to give a shout out to Dominique Fishback who portrays Hampton’s girlfriend Deborah Johnson,  she is that shining light, beacon of hope, and heart and soul of this film that gives us as an audience a moment to relax and breathe when we need it. As with most biopics and true to life stories the performances are profound and invigorating. 

Revenge of the Nerds is getting a reboot developed by Seth MacFarlane. Keith and Kenny Lucas are starring in the film and co-writing with Alex Rubens. Fuzzy Door’s MacFarlane and Alana Kleiman will executive produce with Erica Huggins.

The reboot of Revenge of the Nerds will not be a remake of the 80′s version, but a contemporary re-imagining about today’s nerd culture.
