October 29th, 2016: Famous maiko Katsuna (勝奈) of Daimonji okiya in Kamishichiken showing off her stunning shibori chrysanthemum obi. She went on to become a jikata geiko but sadly retired soon afterwords.

Jikata Geiko Katsuna (Daimonji okiya) and Maiko Umechie in June 2018. Both of them are retired now.

August 2018: Maiko Umechie (Umeno Okiya) of Kamishichiken performing at an banquet, while Jikata Geiko Katsuna (Daimonji Okiya) plays the shamisen and sings.
Sadly, Katsuna will retire at the end of this month, and Umechie will retire at the end of next month. They are two of the most famous Geimaiko of Kamishichiken.

More Departures
As stated before, the end of summer is a popular time for maiko and geiko to leave the profession as it gives them a clean break before the fall recitals. All of the names are confirmed, so there’s no mistake in what their future holds.
Kamishichiken
Katsuna (勝奈) of Daimonji (大文字) - End of August
Umechie (梅ちえ) of Umeno (梅乃) - End of September
Miyagawa Cho
Koyoshi (小よし) of Shigemori (しげ森) - End of August
When it comes to the reasons, they’re more varied; Katsuna is retiring due to health reasons and both Umechie and Koyoshi are retiring after completing their apprenticeship.
