The Karmann Cheetah was an early work by Giorgetto Giugiaro’s fledgling Italdesign company, presented 55 years ago this week at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show. It was a proposal for an affordable, sporty successor to the Karmann Ghia, based on a modified 1600cc VW Beetle chassis. The concept was passed over as Volkswagen shifted towards front-wheel-drive, water-cooled vehicles.
