Benvenido a Bordo: El general Grievous (Legends)
"Naves y Vehiculos 8” is the eighth issue of the Legends reference magazine titled Star Wars: Naves y Vehiculos, published by Planeta DeAgostini, and released in 2009.
Translation: "Legend has it that before becoming a cyborg, Grievous was one of the greatest military leaders of the Kaleesh people. When he conquered his home planet, Kalee, he demonstrated his superiority by wearing masks made from the bones of the animals he feared most, the mumuu and the karabbac."
Hellow!
How about kaleesh fauna, Bentilais or Ronderu headcanons? :3
YESSSS >:3
I’ll start off with Kaleesh fauna on this post (and by that I mean the Mumuu, Karabbac and Erkush because that’s all I’m happy with atm) but I’ll post something about my version of Bentilais and Ronderu hopefully soon once I have my many exams done 💔
As I said, I will cover the Mumuu, Karabbac and Erkush in this post so let’s get into it!
Mumuu:
In my headcanon, the Mumuu are a feline- bear omnivore of sorts with the average height of 3 meters. Out of all the three, they are the most prominent one in all of Kalee. The Mumuu can adapt themselves with ease to most environments except extreme cold, which is why they can be found everywhere except in the mid to higher levels of Grendaju.
There are four types of Mumuu: artic, desert, “normal” and tropical. I think these are pretty much self explanatory.
Unlike the Erkush and Karabbac, Mumuu are solitary animals (with the exception of courting other Mumuu and mothers with their cubs).
Don’t let their broad form fool you, they are excellent and silent hiders even in the deserts.
Karabbac:
The Karabbac are by far my favourites :3 They’re the apex predators of Grendaju. According to an Kaleesh myth, on the highest mountain of Grendaju lies an old, abandoned temple which is guarded by 10 meter tall Karabbac who protect the dead’s corpses. Many warriors have made their way to this alleged temple as a way to finally confirm the myth, but they never returned from their expeditions.
A Karabbac has the average height of 5 meters. They are social animals, living with their mate until the end of their life. These bird- like creatures have a very good memory. If their mate and/ or young were to die at the hands of another creature, they’ll make sure that their killer will meet a very gruesome fate.
If a Karabbac pair has younglings, the “less dominant” out of the two guards the young while its mate hunts for their family.
Erkush:
In a nutshell, I can best describe the Erkush as komodo dragons who live in groups. One can already be bad enough, but a whole group just makes it worse. Oh, and not only do they have a poisonous bite, but their skin is poisonous too.
Fortunately for most of Kalee’s population, the Erkush only live in the tropical forests and the Kaleesh from that region have managed to adapt to these apex predators. When an Erkush is killed, the Kaleesh make sure to scrape its poison off from its skin into some container for future use. Their skin is also used to create durable and very fashionable clothing and pouches. Those are commonly sold in big cities outside of the tropical regions.
That’s it! I hope you enjoyed reading this :333 (feel free to ask questions I’ll try to answer them whenever I can :D)
General Grievous
The Essential Atlas (2009):
“Nearly a century before the battle of Yavin, the Republic convinced the Kaleesh to fight the Bitthævrian government in order to unseat a regime considered unfriendly to Coruscant”
“Decades later the mantis-like Yam’rii embarked on a crusade of expansion, battling their way to Kalee until beaten back by Qymaen jai Sheelal, a charismatic Kaleesh warlord. Sheelal took the fight all the way back to the enemy’s homeworld of Huk. The beaten Yam’rii pleaded with the Republic for help, and Coruscant ended the war and levied heavy sanctions against Kalee. With a world already depleted by warfare and overhunting, the restrictions pushed the planet into famine and cannibalism. Sheelal, who by that point had taken the name Grievous, entered into the service of the InterGalactic Banking Clan. In return, the IBC assisted Kalee with loans and supply connections, Kalee escaped the Clone Wars intact, but Grievous was counted among the war’s casualties. The planet has honored its late champion with a temple of his own, and a lofty place in the Kaleesh pantheon”
“The Clone Wars turned Saleucami into a battlefield. At one point during the Clone Wars, General Grievous was forced down on Saleucami, and tracked across the planet by Obi-Wan Kenobi and a squad of clone troopers. The two dueled to a draw”
“Dooku also wooed the heads of the galaxy’s largest commercial concerns, meeting with the Trade Federation on Neimoidia, the Techno Union on Metalorn, the Commerce Guild on Felucia, the Corporate Alliance on Kooriya, and the InterGalactic Banking Clan on Muunilinst. On Kalee, Dooku ensured the servitude of one of his best enforcers by arranging a shuttle crash that turned the Kaleesh warlord Grievous into an unstoppable cyborg”
“Another Separatist attempt to reverse the course of the war was the Malevolence, an enormous battleship sporting powerful ion cannons that raided numerous systems in the Core and Colonies before its destruction at Antar”
“Grievous’s scorched―earth assaults on target worlds terrified the Republic, and numerous attempts were made to bring him to justice. He slew a half dozen Jedi at Hypori, dueled Ahsoka at Skytop Station in the Ruusan system, evaded Kit Fisto on Vassek 3, and crossed sabers with Obi-Wan Kenobi at Felucia and Saleucami, remaining frustratingly elusive time and time again”
“For all the wartime heroics, the Clone Wars was a conflict in which nothing was what it seemed. For example, a Separatist strike against the clone factories of Kamino failed not due to any defect in strategy but because Darth Sidious secretly sabotaged the attack to guarantee neither side could bag a quick victory”
“The long string of Republic reversals culminated with Operation Durge’s Lance, which saw the Separatists penetrate the Core and seize Duro. From his new position, General Grievous wreaked destruction along the Corellian Trade Spine”
“Grievous’s continued depredations―including the orbital slagging of the ancient city planet of Humbarine and the release of a brain plague on Loerdovia―horrified Core Worlders. A band of rogue Jedi attempted to assassinate Grievous on Gentes in the Ison Corridor but only became the latest to die in battle against the feared cyborg”
The Official Starships & Vehicles Collection 20 (2009):
(#1)
“During the Utapau campaign, Grievous decided to flee the planet and tried to reach the secret platform where his personal fighter was located, but the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi quickly pounced in pursuit. In the end they engaged in a violent melee clearly unbalanced in favor of the servocontrolled metal creature. Grievous pushed Kenobi violently, and Kenobi almost fell off the platform. The Jedi grabbed the edge and, with his free hand, used the Force to pull Grievous’ blaster, which was already on the ground, towards him. As the General approached to deliver the coup de grace, Kenobi opened fire. The shot penetrated his open heart and passed through his pressurized organ sac, igniting the conservatory fluids. Grievous’ vital organs exploded oily, as flames burst from the eyes of his helmet. The artificial body collapsed on the platform, lifeless and thirsty for destruction”
“Since Obi-Wan had defeated the Separatist general on the platform where Belbullab-22 was located, the Jedi Master used it to escape from the clones that had just turned against him. Aboard the Soulless One, Obi-Wan went to the consular ship of the House of Alderaan, the Tantive IV, where he left the fighter until the day he used it to go to Nar Shaddaa with a newborn passenger, Luke Skywalker. Upon arrival, he sold the ship to pay for one of his tickets to Tatooine and provide financial support to the new child protectors”

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Heroes and Villains Flip Book (April 2010):
“The savage commander of the Separatist military, Grievous is a cyborg-half living being and half machine. Little is left of his organic body except his head and internal organs. He hates droids, even though most of his armies are made up of them, and becomes enraged if anyone makes the mistake of thinking he also a droid. Tough armor protects Grievous’s living flesh, and his fast reflexes make him a terrifying enemy. He is not Force-sensitive, but uses lightsabers in combat. Grievous hates Jedi, and keeps a collection of lightsabers taken from the ones he has killed on the battlefield”
“Grievous was once a warrior on the planet Kalee, where he led his people in many wars against their neighbors. After a terrible accident nearly killed him, he accepted an offer from the Separatists to be rebuilt as a cyborg. In return for help for his people, he agreed to command the Separatist military. Count Dooku often criticizes Grievous, wanting him to do more damage to the Republic’s forces. This makes the general angry: how can he defeat the Republic when all Dooku gives him are battle droids? They’re so useless in combat that Grievous sometimes gets frustrated and destroys them himself”
“General Grievous is a tough opponent on his own, but the Separatist warlord travels with his own attendants, deadly battle droids known as MagnaGuards. Red-eyed and ruthless, MagnaGuards proved such good bodyguards that Count Dooku had more of them made to aid the Separatists’ war effort. Before Grievous became a cyborg, he was a Kaleesh warlord who traveled with a pack of warriors. After he joined the Separatist cause, his new guards were dressed in cloaks displaying Kaleesh symbols from his past. Grievous has trained his bodyguards to fight like the warriors who once fought beside him in battle on Kalee”
The Clone Wars Character Encyclopedia (June 21, 2010):
“Once a Kaleesh warlord, Grievous is now more machine than flesh, with lightsaber skills that make him the equal of a Jedi. He hates the Jedi and takes the sabers of those he kills for grim trophies. The cyborg loathes droids, and flies into a rage if he is mistaken for mechanical”
“Roggwarts were native to Guiteica, and many Kaleesh keep the beasts as pets and guardians. Gor keeps vicious watch over Grievous's fortress, and the cyborg general threats the great beast like a beloved pet”
“Roggwarts are ferocious creatures on their natural state, but Grievous sees a way to improved Gor as a guardian, just as he has improved himself through the addition of cybernetic limbs and thick armor. With A4-D’s help, Grievous summonts Gor with an exoskeleton,“
Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures (Sept 15, 2010)
Frozen Showdown
“General Grievous, intent on securing victory in the Calamari system, arrives on the frozen world of Iceberg Three to personally lead the attack.”
Star Wars: The Clone Wars Official Episode Guide Series 1 & 2 (Sept 30, 2010):
“Commander of the Separatist droid armies, the ruthless cyborg General Grievous is a highly skilled warlord with a personal vendetta against the Jedi Order”
“Years before the Clone Wars, an army of Kaleesh and Jedi stormed the planet Guiteica, home to the Bitthævrian warriors. Many Kaleesh, including Grievous, took home baby roggwarts, training the creatures to be devoted pets and fierce watch-beasts”
Star Wars Insider #130 (2011):
“Grievous becomes a cyborg after a bomb explodes on his personal ferry”
Star Wars: Beware the Sith (2012):
“Injured by a bomb, General Grievous’s living body was almost destroyed. His remains were built into a duranium shell, turning him into a cyborg”
“Grievous claims his transformation into a cyborg was by his own choice, but he doesn’t realize that the bomb that destroyed his body was planned by Darth Tyranus in part of a plan to place Grievous under Sith control”
The Essential Guide to Warfare (2012):
“Long before he was Supreme Commander of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, General Grievous was a gifted Kaleesh warrior shaped by his species;’ long, bloody war against invading Yam’rii. Grievous was born Qymaen jai Sheelal, and became an expert sniper while still youth. By the time he reached maturity, he had killed hundreds of Yam’rii and been hailed as a demigod”
“After the death of his comrade-in-arms Ronderu lij Kummar, Sheelal took the fight against the Yam’rii to the invaders’ worlds, where he massacred warriors and civilians alike. The Junicial Forces separated the warring parties, and the Republic imposed ruinous sanctions on Kalee. With few alternatives, Sheelal accepted an offer of employment from the IGBC chairman San Hill to serve as a collections agent in return for IGBC aid to his planet”
“What happened next still divides historians. Some says Sheelal took the name Grievous in memory of his friend Kummar, and voluntarily remade his body―and eventually his mind― to make himself the equal of the Jedi. (Some add that Sheelal had dreamed of being a Jedi and been rejected as a youth.) In seeking “Improvements” to his natural flesh and bone, Grievous turned himself into a cyborg whose only remaining living parts were housed beneath his ceramic armorplast mask and duranium armor. Once Grievous opted for mechanical enhancements to his own senses and reaction times, even his mind was part machine, and his organic past faded into dim memory, crowded out by his need for vengeance against the Jedi and the Republic”
“Others tell a tale in which Grievous is as much victim as villain. Citing thirdhand accounts obtained from the IGBC and Serenno, these scholars claim that Dooku and other Separatist leaders sabotaged Grievous’s shuttle and recovered the badly wounded Kaleesh from the sea. What was left of his body was encased in armor, and his brain was altered by surgical droids, suppressing his memories and amplifying his aggression and rage He awoke as a servant of the nascent Confederacy, engineered to lead its forces and destroy the Jedi. If this account of his origin is correct, Grievous apparently recalled little if any on his former life, with his memories destroyed or replaced by fictional constructs. But perhaps some echoes remained: He became enraged if mistaken for a droid”
“Grievous’s early history may never be definitively reconstructed, but his later deeds were chronicle in chilling detail”
“But no campaign capture Imperial citizens’ imagination like the Western Reaches Operation of 17 BBY. In the final days of the Clone Wars, the remnants of General Grievous’s forces had fled Rimward of Bomis Koori, seeking shelter amid the areas’s pirate bases and slaver nests”
The Clone Wars Magazine #18 (2013):
“Grievous suffered near-fatal injuries in battle and considered his original body useless”
The Clone Wars Magazine #20 (2013):
“Grievous' ship is bombed on the orders of Count Dooku, who wanted to use him in the coming war”
Star Wars: Force Collection (2013):
General Grievous (Legends)
“The leader of the Droid army during the Clone Wars, he is actually a cyborg. This twisted mix of organic body parts and mechanical armor has a bad temper and is easily angered.”
General Grievous (Canon)
“General Grievous is a cyborg General leading the Separatist Droid armies in the Clone Wars. After a near-death experience, he was given a cyborg body and was trained by the Sith lord, Count Dooku. Under Dooku’s training, Grievous became a deadly Jedi hunter, collecting the lightsaber of each Jedi he defeats.”
General Grievous (★★★★★) (Canon)
“General Grievous is the cyborg Supreme Commander of the Droid Army. His four arms wield the Lightsabers of Jedi that he has defeated in combat.”
General Grievous [Elusive Commander] (★★★★★) (Canon)
“Grievous, as a warrior and tactician, outstrips every command officer in the Republic. However the limited and unreliable resources of the CIS have convinced him of the value of having a speedy and reliable exit strategy on even the safest of postings. Grievous does not consider retreat a defeat so much as denying the Republic final victory.”
General Grievous [Last Stand] (★★★★★) (Canon)
“Supreme Martial Commander of the Separatist Droid Armies, General Grievous is near machine himself in both body and purpose. Grievous cares little for politics or causes, but instead only lives for the thrill of battle and the total destruction of the Jedi Order.”
General Grievous [The Atrocious Executioner] (★★★★★) (Canon)
“As the cyborg leader of the Droid Army, General Grievous is a superior commander. His skills at wielding up to four Lightsabers at once make him a deadly opponent. Many Jedi have fallen victim to his ruthless attacks. Whether they be Masters, or merely Padawans, no Jedi is safe.”
Kit Fisto (Canon)
“A member of the Jedi Council and a Clone War general, Kit Fisto commands the forces of the Galactic Republic against the Separatists. As a highly skilled Jedi Master, he dueled lethal opponents, including the likes of General Grievous and Darth Sidious.”
The Official Star Wars Fact File Part 29 (2014):
“Despite a few critical setbacks, General Grievous pushed his forces forward and cut a swathe of conquest and destruction across the galaxy. He led Separatist forces on the planets Anoth, Bakura and Ord Mantell, and captured the critical hyperspace routes leading to Bespin, Kessel and Mon Calamari, all within the space of a single month”
“Grievous did not take time to lick his wounds, instead he took control of the planet JanFathal, as well as almost securing the planet Kothlis until Republic forces drove him away. The general then forced the Republic out of the Nexus Ortai system, ensuring the Separatist’ continued control of the entire region”
The Official Star Wars Fact File Part 69 (2015):
“Obi-Wan Kenobi and Grievous often fought to a stalemate when they clashed, so equally matched were they as warriors. Eventually, though, Kenobi was to learn how to best the cyborg”
“General Grievous had led a memorable victory over the Republic at Felucia, but was then driven into retreat over Dorin. However, that battle was planned to attract the Republic’s attention away from Geonosis, so Grievous was able to claim it as a success”
Lone Wolf: A Tale of Obi-Wan and Luke (2015):
Obi-Wan frowned inwardly. “Demeez bo treeza spineless One.” Her name’s the Spineless One.
“In truth, the Belbullab-22 starfighter went by the nom de guerre Soulless One. Apt for a monster such as Grievous. The cyborg's willingness to proudly name his ship that only reflected to what depths of despair he'd let himself sink. But the recreant Separatist general had used the ship to flee losing battles often enough that Master Quinlan Vos had rechristened it with the less-flattering pseudonym.”
“Within, he immediately caught sight of the small garage space, certainly a front, and one of the mechanics torsos deep in a cross-shaped Dianoga starfighter. Startled, the russet alien looked up, its face and tan coveralls smeared with grease and dripping up to its elbows with violet lubricant, but it was that desiccated face, the angrily angled eyebrows flaring into board, triangular earflaps, and the pair of tusks jutting downward from leathery cheeks that gave Obi-Wan pause.”
“Though he'd never seen one unmasked, or even entirely “in the flesh,” as it were, he recognized the species instantly from the Jedi Temple archives. A Kaleesh. The same species as General Grievous. At least, before he became a robotic abomination. And a corpse.”
“Obi-Wan met the dead stare of those menacing slit-pupils as that familiar alien glower bore into him―and recalled the screeching flames from Grievous’ eye sockets when he exploded the cyborg’s life-sustaining innards. Then, never breaking eye contact, and in that special Kaleesh fashion of greeting strangers, the humanoid’s almost-absent nose shriveled carefully, twice sniffing the Jedi, like an alpha gundark. Obi-Wan felt his skin constricting, his nerve endings firing violently, as the Kaleesh neared sleeping Luke...”
|Canon|
A New Dawn (Sept 2, 2014):
“Crispus was a project for homeless Clone Wars veterans in the sector, an idea hatched in the final days of the Republic. It had been intended as bomb shelter, built by the Republic as part of the Crispus project in the unlikely event Count Dooku or General Grievous took a sudden interest in destroying a retirement colony”
“But he had decided against upgrading, afraid to risk harming whatever brain chemistry gave him his extraordinary genius. An irrational fear, perhaps―but while he’d never believed in the Jedi’s mystical Force, he did allow that some things might defy logic where the mind was concerned.”
Son of Dathomir (May 21, 2014):
(Full comic)
“I speak of that Dathomir witch -- Mother Talzin.” “The reports from General Grievous suggest that she was killed when he invaded Dathomir.” “The fact that Maul lives is proof enough that Grievous failed to destroyed her.” ―Darth Sidious and Count Dooku
“You should have killed Maul when you had him in your custody, I told you he was too dangerous to let live.” “Do not question the plans of my master. Remember -- you must hurt Maul, but not destroy him. Weaken his forces, injure his pride.” ―Grievous and Dooku
“We are not fighting clones this time. These are Mandalorian warriors...” ―Grievous estimating their chances of winning the battle
“Send in everything we have and let us hope that will be enough. Because I can calculate with certainty, based on experience...” “The odds are stacked against us!” ―Grievous
“I’m more than a match for you!” “Your effects are useless! Your army is skilled, but my forces are unending!” “Look around -- Your mandalorians have been crushed!” ―Maul and Grievous
“Only my droid remains now -- Your battle is already lost!” ―Grievous, to Maul
“I have done as you asked -- I have made Maul bleed. He and his army are now on the run.” “What were his losses?” “Extensive. But in truth, I had all but exhausted my own forces, as well.” ―Grievous and Dooku
“Once our droids take control of the city” “...Maul’s forces will be insects under our heels!” ―Grievous, to Tey-Zuka
“Take that monstrosity to the brig and put him under constant watch.” ―Maul
“It would be unfortunate if next time we met, Count, I had to add your lightsaber to my collection” “We all have our parts to play, general...” ―Grievous and Dooku
“Those of you who can still stand... return to your master... And tell him to send more men!” ―Grievous killing Mandalorians
Star Wars Journeys: Beginnings (Dec 18, 2014):
“Part droid and part alien, General Grievous is as cold as he is vicious! He has vanquished many jedi, taking their lightsabers as trophies. He sneers as he adds the lightsabers of his new Jedi prisoners to his collection”
Kanan: The Last Padawan (April 1, 2015):
(Full comic)
“Her last mission? Her battalion suffered ninety percent casualties. Ninety!” “Who was she up against?” “Way I hear it, General Grievous." "Whoa…” “Best case, he out-generaled her. Worst case, she's bad luck. Cursed." ―Jedi initiates Sammo Quid and Tai Uzuma
“Enough General Kleeve. The captain knows the nature of his mission... ...but he is a patriot... ...and when he brings down that tower, the Republic and Separatists alike-- ...will know that neither the Jedi Order nor the Republic is invincible... ...Thus, changing the course of the entire war!” ―Grievous, on Rackham’s plan
“They’ve sent a battalion led by a Jedi Master.” “Then, General Kleeve, that Jedi must die.” “Your obsession with the Order is a distraction... ...while it unfortunate the Jedi are on the wrong side of this righteous conflict--” “No other side exists for the Jedi but wrong one!” “Be that as it may, this particular Jedi--Master Depa Billaba--is hardly a threat. Our intelligence identifies her as a failed commander, a liability to the Republic. In fact, according to this, you yourself faced her on Haruun Kal… ...where you decimated her troops and very nearly ended her life.” “I see no reason to risk engagement on Kardoa... ...where we have no armies and nothing at stake. But do what you will.” ―Kleeve and Grievous
"Apologies, sir. The Jedi survived." "I am neither pleased nor surprised, Colonel…clearly, I'll have to deal with her myself." "As you wish, General Grievous." ―Coburn Sear rendezvouses with Grievous on Mygeeto, after failing to defeat Depa Billaba at Kardoa
“Fighting vigorously, Caleb witnesses the death of his comrade Stance and must face the Kage warrior responsible. Meanwhile, his master has come face to face with her own personal nemesis, General Grievous...”
"I defeated you once before. My mistake was not confirming your death." "You believe you know how to defeat me…but the Jedi you fought then did die…and the Jedi you face now is one you've never encountered before." "We shall see, Jedi, we shall see." ―Grievous and Depa Billaba
Ultimate Star Wars (April 28, 2015):
“During the wars, Billaba stuffers a devastating defeat at the hands of General Grievous’ forces on Haruun Kal and falls into a coma, Billaba eventually recovers and, with a youngling named Caleb Dume, stops a bombing of the Jedi Temple. She decides to take Caleb as her Padawan, and together they see action on Kardoa and face Grievous on Mygeeto”
“Commander of the Separatist military, General Grievous is feared throughout the Republic. The cyborg has a vengeful lust for slaying Jedi and keeps their lightsabers as trophies”
“The leader of the Separatist army, General Grievous frequently clashes with the Republic’s Jedi generals. Even members of the Jedi Council struggle to challenge him”
“Following near-lethal injuries, the warrior who would become Grievous receives cyborg implants, which grant him fighting prowess equal to that of a Jedi”
“Once a feared Kaleesh warrior, General Grievous is now more cybernetic machine than living flesh. He believes his mechanical limbs have made him superior to all foes. Scientists implanted his brain and eyes into a duranium alloy body, and his remaining vital organs are protected by a synthskin gut-sack. Count Dooku trains Grievous in lightsaber combat, for which his cybernetic enhancements are well-suited. Grievous lacks Force powers, instead relying on agility and strength when in combat with a Jedi. A master of many of the classic forms of Jedi arts, he is able to adapt quickly to an opponent's fighting style”
“One of Count Dooku’s vicious Separatist warlords, Riff Tamson’s Karkarodon physiology makes him the perfect choice to lead military operations on aquatic worlds”
“Although the planet tries to remain neutral during the Clone Wars, the death of a Jedi in Pau City brings Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker to Utapau. They uncover a Separatist plot to purchase a rare enormous kryber crystal from Sugi arms dealer. Crystals of this seize were believed to be the stuff of legend, but Obi-Wan and Anakin witness its incredible power firsthand. Before General Grievous can take the crystal from the Utapau system, Obi-Wan and Anakin destroy it rather than let it fall into Separatist hands”
“MagnaGuards, the robotic bodyguards assigned to General Grievous, shared his fearsome reputation. The IG-100 MagnaGuards is manufactured by Holowan Mechanicals and is distantly related to the IG assassin droid from the same company. Each MagnaGuard excels at close-quarter fighting, using its two handed electrostaff to stun or kill attackers. The MagnaGuards that work with Grievous wear cloaks, a nod to the traditions of the general’s homeworld. Grievous knows he will be facing many Jedi Knights during the Clone Wars and trains his MagnaGuards in dueling techniques that allow them to gang up against a single target. Backup systems allow MagnaGuards to keep fighting even after they lose a limb. While Grievous doesn’t his MagnaGuard to be able to kill every Jedi who challenge them, he knows his bodyguard screen will exhaust most attackers and leave them vulnerable to a finishing blow delivered by Grievous himself”
“The Separatists employ a number of gargantuan warships during the Clone Wars, many of them falling under the command of the cyborg General Grievous. After Grievous loses the Malevolence in battle with the Republic, he claims the Invisible Hand as his flagship. General Grievous uses the Invisible Hand during later Clone Wars skirmishes and soon receives orders to make a bold strike at the Republic’s capital world of Coruscant”
Darth Vader 6 (June 3, 2015):
(Full comic)
“I have been a great admirer by the body of late General Grievous, an interesting design, but very much a first step. Commander Karbin is the next.” ―Cylo, on the design of Karbin's cybernetic body
Dark Disciple (July 7, 2015):
“General Grievous, the cyborg commander of the count’s vast droid army, stood a few steps behind his lord. With his four arms, skull-like mask, and clawed feet, Grievous was like something someone would expect to see in spiceinduced nightmares, rather than in reality. He was more machine than living creature, but there was a terrible malice in the slitted eyes that peered through the white mask”
“General?” The voice belonged to Count Dooku. From his perch on an overhang, Vos muttered a triumphant, “Yes”.
Grievous’s unique, raspy voice replied, “Yes, my lord?” It hadn’t been difficult for Vos to determine where the center security hub was, and it had been even easier for him to eliminate the droid guards at either end of the hall.
“The betrayer Ventress is here. Meet me on the overlook.” “Yes, Master!” Grievous replied instantly and, a second later, “Let’s move!”
“Even as Grievous reached for the two lightsabers at his waist, they flew into Vos's grip. "You won't be needing these," Vos said pleasantly. Grievous, who had a deplorable lack of a sense of humor, bellowed and charged, as Vos had anticipated. Almost leisurely, Vos stepped to the side and sliced upward with his lightsaber, severing the general's left hand at the wrist, they flew into Vos’s grip. The mechanical limb dropped to the floor, comlink still clutched in its metal fingers”
“Sorry,” Vos said, picking up the comlink and waggling it at the infuriated Grievous. "Need this, too. Can't have you contacting the count, now, can we?”
Like an insect rearing up, Grievous spread all four arms wide, then charged. Vos met him halfway. The two clashed in midair. Grievous was the heavier, and his momentum carried them back toward the wall. Laughing sadistically, Grievous closed both right hands around Vos's throat. He threw Vos hard, intending to slam him down into the unyielding stone of the walkway. Grievous's mistake was in letting Vos out of his grasp, and Vos landed in an easy crouch. Springing up, he turned. “I’d stay and kill you,” he told the cyborg, “but I’m short on time today.”
“Vos betted away the screaming red bolts, giving Grievous a cheery wave as he slammed his hand into the controls of the last door”
“He whirled away just in time to her charging―Grievous! How had the general―Vos planted his boot in Dooku’s stomach, taking the count by surprise, then shifted his weight and kicked Grievous with his other leg”
“Ventress's lightsaber flew out of her hand as she and Grievous plunged downward. She struck the ledge of a lower level hard, her head hanging over the edge. Grievous was atop her, his slitted golden eyes hungry for blood as he growled down at her, his foot on her throat. He seized her with his four hands and hurled her down to the level below them. She slammed against the wall beside one of the elegant windows and crumpled to the ledge. She was taking a bad beating, she realized in some distant part of her mind. The earlier blow to her skull should have killed her. As it was, it had knocked her out for at least a couple of moments, and her head now ached violently. Her vision was untrustworthy, and as she got to her feet a wave of dizziness overcame her. She had no time to indulge it. She looked up and saw Grievous leaping toward her, issuing a guttural sound that was intended as a triumphant laugh, and she rolled to the right. Ventress was wounded, disoriented, and had lost her lightsaber. There was nothing to do but give up or fight―and Ventress was not about to give up. She snarled and charged at Grievous, executing a kick with her bare feet that still managed to send the larger and heavier cyborg staggering backward. He growled, clearly surprised”
“Ventress refused to think about what was happening to him. If she didn't eliminate the threat here, Dooku and Grievous would come after both of them”
What the hell was in that deceptively ordinary-looking cabinet? With one final, almost regretful glance at Vos, Dooku opened the cabinet's double doors. Mounted with great care, resplendent against a padded background of blue velvet, hung at least twenty lightsabers. A portion of the case was bare; Dooku had left room for the collection to expand. Vos swallowed hard, fighting nausea, unable to tear his eyes away. “Whenever, Grievous or Ventress cut down a Jedi, they bring me these little souvenirs of the battle.” ―Dooku, to Quinlan Vos
“Christophsis.” “Grievous will be here.” “This battle?” “It’s so . . . irrelevant.” “Not to Dooku. He has his own vendettas. And Grievous’s boss will be . . .” ―Asajj Ventress and Mace Windu
Build the Millennium Falcon 30 (July 29, 2015):
“After the discovery of a giant Kyber Crystal near the end of the Clone Wars. Governor Torul Blom of Pau City opened negotiations with Count Dooku. He hoped to sell him the crystal with the support of Sugi arms dealers. Though the crystal was eventually destroyed by Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Utapau found itself in the grip of General Grievous, who went to hide on the planet after the Battle of Coruscant”
“However, during the Clone Wars, Pau’an officials allowed the Confederacy of Independent Systems to gain influence on Utapau. This evolved into an uneasy alliance that was forced on the entire population of Utapau when General Grievous secreted the members of the Separatist Council on the planet until he evacuated them to Mustafar”
Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know (Sept 4, 2015):
(#1)
“General Grievous is the maniacal cyborg Commander of the Separatist droid army. Most of his body has been mechanically enhanced, making him a match for even the strongest Jedi. But never call him a droid!”
“General Grievous chooses to upgrade his organic body with synthetic parts. But with his heart and lungs failing, he has serious breathing problems now and a nasty cough!”
“95% the amount of Grievous’s body parts that are mechanical”
“Even bits of Grievous's brain have been cybernetically rebuilt to make him a smarter, faster fighter”
“More machine than alive... though more dangerous for It” ―Grand Master Yoda, on General Grievous
“In his cyborg body, Grievous towers over his frequent foe, Obi-Wan Kenobi”
“Perhaps it’s no wonder that pirate Sidon Ithano pinches his gear from others. His helmet is stolen from the Kaleesh (General Grievous’s species)”
The Revenge of the Sith - The film Novel (Sept 9, 2015):
“A fleet of ships under the command of the dreaded General Grievous has slipped through the defense lines to attack Coruscant directly. Taking advantage of the confusion that followed, the Separatists kidnapped Chancellor Palpatine, supreme leader of the Galactic Senate.”
“But Coruscant is not only the center of government and the seat of the Senate, it is also home to the Jedi Temple. As the Separatist attack began, a message was sent throughout the galaxy to recall the greatest Jedi warriors.”
“The two Jedi blame each other, while the Chancellor offers to let them be taken to General Grievous for negotiations. Obi-Wan and Anakin exchange a stunned look. The day Grievous agrees to negotiate, it will snow on Tatooine!”
“General Grievous has the reputation of being as insensitive as the droids he commands... They are wrong, he thinks. There is an emotion shared by men and machines, the one he feels when he sees Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker walking towards him, captive: satisfaction. If the smooth metal mask that serves as his face allowed it, he would smile.”
“The guards also escort the chancellor, of course, and the little blue droid. Grievous has ordered the droids to bring all intruders to him, and they tend to take his instructions literally... The astromech is however unimportant: it can easily be reprogrammed when the ship is back in separatist territory.”
“One of the battle droids hands the two lightsabers to its master, who suspends them in his metal claws. According to the Jedi, each lightsaber is not only a weapon, but also a work of art that is a perfect reflection of its owner. By examining it carefully, we can learn a lot about the person who made it. But Grievous will have time to work on that later... He turns to his prisoners, standing tall - he has extended his metal legs to tower over most of the living creatures and takes a certain pleasure in looking down on them. He likes to read the terror in the eyes of those who face him, when they look at his inexpressive face and wonder what terrible weapons might be hidden under his long cape.“
For the moment, however, the two Jedi don't seem very impressed. But this will not last.
The general knows how to provoke Jedi. Spreading the flaps of his cloak, he hangs the weapons on his lining, where others are already hung.
The freed Jedi now stand back to back, fending off fire from the surrounding droids.
Some crew members have been hit by laser fire, and Grievous has no intention of suffering the same fate. He's ready to let the Jedi wear themselves out fighting the droids.
“Suddenly, the ship's gravity shifted and, within moments, the ceiling was below. A few droids react quickly enough and magnetize themselves, but most of them fall in with the Jedi, who take the opportunity to cut up a few of them. A Neimoidian pilot, in panic, announces that the ship is disaggregating. The Separatists have no time to lose. There's no point in staying to win this fight, Grievous decides. Better to let the Jedi disintegrate with the ship.”
“Suddenly, the gravity returns to normal. The Jedi fall back to the ground and run toward the Kaleesh general. Almost all the droids are out of order...”
“Climbing aboard this last capsule, he takes off and quickly moves away from the remains of his flagship. The Trade Federation shuttles are accessible enough to pick him up, and the clone fighters are too busy fighting his droids to pay attention. With a little luck, he will be able to blame this fiasco on Count Dooku, who is no longer there to defend himself... Yes, everything will be fine, thinks the general while heading towards the nearest cruiser.”
“As the Neimoidian ship lands on Utapau, Grievous studies the planet's bleak, pockmarked surface in which the inhabitants build their cities. The shuttle sinks into the widest and deepest of them, before landing on a landing platform where battle droids are waiting. When the general lands, they inform him that the planet is under control. The premises are of no interest to the general, he is only here to talk with the Separatist Council.”
“One of his bodyguards comes to inform him that someone is trying to reach him. Grievous hurriedly bowed to the hologram of the hooded figure that had just appeared. Despite all his power, Darth Sidious is not a warrior. Does he understand what this unnecessary raid on Coruscant has cost us? wonders the general.”
But... the disappearance of Count Dooku? he dares to insist. A little reassured, Grievous nod. However, after the end of the communication, he remains immersed in his thoughts for many minutes. Sith Lords are devious and treacherous. It would be easier for me to share Darth Sidious' confidence if I knew his plans...
It's not the first time that Grievous rejoices that his metal mask betrays no emotion. It would not be necessary that these stupid beings discover the contempt that he feels for them...
Now all he has to do is wait here on Utapau for that insufferable Jedi to come running into the lion's den. With a little luck, he won't have long to wait.
He pulls back his cloak to reveal his collection of lightsabers, stolen from the Jedi he killed.
Before his enemy can get his hopes up again, Obi-Wan uses the Force to lift him into the air and hurl him violently against one of the beams supporting the upper levels. Grievous drops his last two weapons and plummets to the lowest level. Suddenly, the room is filled with laser fire: the clones have just appeared and are confronting the battle droids. Obi-Wan hurried to the spot where the general had fallen, arriving just in time to see him flee at the controls of his speeder-wheeler. He thinks he can escape while his droids delay me.
Grievous is an even more reckless driver than Anakin, Obi-Wan sponges off as his giant lizard chases the general's speeder-wheeler.
Its metal body is stronger than any droid's shell. There must be a way to reach him! Obi-Wan thought as he dodged another strike. Suddenly, he notices that one of the plates protecting Grievous' belly is loose. Perhaps I could tear off some of his armor? the Jedi imagines. Taking advantage of another Grievous action, Obi-Wan dives in, grabs the metal plate and fires with all his might. The piece comes off... and the general's arms close around Obi-Wan, lifting him into the air!
Obi-Wan sees the general pick up the electric baton and walk towards him. He brings it to him, and shoots again and again, stopping the general. The sound that Grievous lets out is halfway between a choking sound and a metal rustle. Then a series of explosions tore apart his body, which finally burst into flames. Finally, General Grievous collapses. He is dead. Obi-Wan breathes a sigh of relief and goes to the tunnel where his varactyl is waiting. He has to go and see how the battle is going. He's not too worried: Commander Cody is a competent soldier, and has more than enough clones to defeat the battle droids. The real problem was General Grievous, and it's solved now. Obi-Wan only has to warn the Council - and the Chancellor. Then... everyone will finally be able to discover Palpatine's true intentions.
Luckily, the clones are unaware of Grievous' rescue ship. Obi-Wan only told them that the general was dead; he didn't have time to go into details. As it's in Trade Federation colors, even if the cruisers orbiting the planet spot it, they'll think I'm a separatist fleeing the fighting. Of course, he still has to weave his way through thousands of clones to reach the platform on which the ship is located. But at least his enemies won't be waiting for him there. And once away from Utapau, he'll be able to try and understand the events that are taking place. In theory, clones are incapable of betraying the Republic. Something's not right...
At first, the news was good: the separatists had given up the fight, the war was over, and the Jedi had killed General Grievous.
Making your way through Utapau's tunnels is no easy task: not only do you have to avoid being spotted by the clones, but you also have to dodge the wild beasts that swarm there... When Obi-Wan finally reaches the small landing platform, he is delighted to find it deserted. He quickly climbed into the fighter and took off. Once in space, he tries to reach the other Jedi, but, strangely, all communications seem to be cut off.
Star Wars: Uprising (Sept 10, 2015):
“Ah, but you are not naturally gifted in magick. Not as the Nightsisters were.” “Were”? You saying there aren’t others like you anymore?” “I do not care to speak of it. Suffice it to say that I am far from home today, and I was young when I left. Although the dark eye I eluded is gone... I will not live to see my world again.” “I’m ― hey, I’m sorry Shelish. Didn’t mean to bring up old wound.” ―Shelish and the player
“Rumors speak of the ruins on the Gentes moon, Belsus, of a laboratory established by Grievous. The place may still have valuable salvage.”

Support Vessels
“General Grievous’s flagship didn’t travel alone. Along with his own starfighter, the Soulless One, the Malevolence boasted a complement of vulture-class fighter droids able to provide a screen to ward off any enemy fighters. The cruiser also carried at least one Droch-class boarding ship. Known as pod hunters; these craft were crewed by a squad of rocket battle droids, designed to destroy any enemy escape pods and leave no survivors”
“Even so, the first flight of the Malevolence on the spacelanes was quickly spotted by Republic forces. Eager to nullity the threat before it got out of hand, Jedi Master Plo Koon dispatched several venator-class cruisers to locate and destroy superweapon. Grievous was one step ahead, and the task force came under intense fire at the Battle of the Phu system, where he took out three Star Destroyers, while, on the instructions of Count Dooku, the Republic’s transmissions were blocked to keep their vessel a secret”
End of the Malevolence
“Robbed of the fearsome power of the Malevolence, General Grievous made a swift retreat in his fighter, the Soulless One, fleeing the scene of his defeat”
The End of the Threat
“Such was the threat posed by the Separatist flagship that the Republic went all out to stop her. Meanwhile, the Separatists sought to prolong her reign of terror”
“Without doubt, the loss of the ship was a blow to the plans of Darth Sidious and the Separatist movement, and a poor return for such a vast investment of time and resources”
The Trandoshans
“During the Clone Wars and the Separatist occupation of Kashyyyk, the Trandoshans were only too happy to play the role of slave masters for the CIS, hunting and capturing the furred behemoths in a deadly game of lizard versus mammal. The Trandoshans established several permanent slave camps, and with their deep enmity for the Wookiees could be expected to side with the Separatists in any skirmished that took place. Eventually, the incursions and probing attacks led a full-scale Separatist invasion that began with the landing of a secret force of battle droids and culminated in the Battle of Kashyyyk at the city of Kachirho”
Baue den Millennium Falcon 43 (2015):
“With the Malevolence, Grievous destroyed several Republic fleet units before they could transmit reports of the CIS’s new secret weapon. Finally, Jedi Master Ares Nune discovered Grievous’ flagship in the Phu system. But Nune’ Venator-class cruiser was crippled, as were two escort ships. After the Republic noticed the loss, Plo Koon sensed the Malevolence in the Abregado system, and Count Dooku gave the order to shut down enemy communications lest the Republic side learn of the Malevolence―but to no avail”
Build the Millennium Falcon 52 (Dec 30, 2015):
“During the Battle of Coruscant, Carrack-class cruisers formed part of the Coruscant Home Fleet that protected the capital of the Republic. Among those assigned to Home Fleet Strike Group Five was the integrity, commanded by Lorth Needa (who would later go on to a distinguished Imperial career), Needa trapped the Separatist flagship, the Invisible Hand, commanded by the cyborg General Grievous, and demanded its surrender. Needa did not believe the general’s claims that Supreme Chancellor Palpatine was a prisoner on board and gave Grievous 10 minutes to prove his claim before the massed ships Strike Group Five opened fire, Grievous did not surrender, but Palpatine was rescued by Jedi Generals Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi”
Build the Millennium Falcon 54 (Jan 13, 2016):
“Count Dooku, General Grievous and others considered important enough by the CIS were gifted shuttles, and with that the vessels exclusivity was gone forever. To impress, and placate diplomatic contacts, Dooku frequently offered the expensive Sheathpede-class shuttles as gifts, and one was given to Mother Talzin of the Nightsisters of Dathomir. Dooku and Grievous both retained the pilot’s cockpit, once they did not want to trust their fate to completely automated systems”
Star Wars Helmet Collection 5 (Mar 9, 2016):
Belbullab-22 Fighter
“Built by the Utapaun corporation Feethan Ottraw Scalable Assemblies, the Belbullab-22 starfighter was made famous when General Grievous took and converted one, naming it the Soulless One. Well armoured and shielded, and with fast sublight engines and hyperdrive, it became Grievous’ personal shuttle. Though it had decent weapons, mounting triple laser cannons, Grievous was not a gifted starfighter pilot, and preferred to flee a battle. Belbullab-22 fighter were not a common sight in the galaxy, during or after the Clone Wars, but they were highly prized by collector”
Build the Millennium Falcon 65 (Mar 30, 2016):
Grievous’s Castle:
“This looming fortress was a gloomy and depressing place, and it was here that Grievous would come to brood over the life he had lost when he was transformed into a cyborg killer. But this was more than just a home to Grievous. As befitted the commander of the droid armies of the Confederacy of Independent System, Grievous’s”
Grievous’s Pet:
“Gor was a male roggwart, which General Grievous kept in his castle as guard and a pet. Gor was one of the few creatures that Grievous cared for, and during the general’s frequent absences, he was cared for by his master’s medical droid, EV-A4-D. Gor became even more fearsome, after EV-A4-D grafted four cybernetic limbs to his back, and attached an exoskeleton of battle armour to his body. Like his master, the roggwart was given a chest plate to shield his vital organs, and a helmet to protect his braincase”
“Kaleesh warlords historically took roggwarts as trophies from the Bitthævrian homeworld of Guiteica: the creatures have an aggressive nature, and only those taken from the nest at a young age are able to be trained as pets or guardians”
“One of the clones was killed before two Jedi managed to dispatch the roggwart. Grievous was enrage by his pet’s death, which became another reason why he hated the Jedi”
Baue den Millennium Falcon 65 (2016):
“It was a gloomy, oppressive place where the Kaleesh thought about his past and the life he lost when he turned into a cyborg”
“Roggwarts, native to Vendaxa and Guiteica, grow to four and a half feet tall”
“Warriors of the Kaleesh once brought the roggwarts as trophies from the battles with the Bitthævrian on their homeworld Guiteica”
The Crimson Corsair and the Lost Treasure of Count Dooku (April 5, 2016):
“A tall and thin cloaked figure leaned against a nearby wall, his face impossible to read under the red Kaleesh mask he always wore. His name was Sidon Ithano―though most simply referred to him as the Crimson Corsair―and he was waiting with a cool patience that seemed out of place on the uncomfortable world of Ponemah.”
Star Wars Coleccion Casco 8 (2016):
“As commander-in-chief of the separatist droid army, General Grievous sowed terror on the conflict-ridden worlds. Cold and calculating, his cruelty was not limited to the battlefields; civilians suffered as well. He did not hesitate to devastate entire populations or worlds. One of his tactics was to risk the lives of civilians and thus force his enemy to prioritize the lives of the innocent while his troops focused on generating battle”
“Grievous was not only considered a brilliant strategist; his warrior spirit made him enhance his combat skills. He did not hesitate to stand in front of his troops to lead an offensive and confront his enemies, even if they were jedi. Although he was not a Sith nor was he Force sensitive, he wielded the lightsaber with dexterity, having been trained in the Jedi arts by Count Dooku”
“After suffering a terrible accident that almost took his life, Grievous was reconstructed by Geonosian biotechs. They saved his brain, bone marrow and internal organs, which were transplanted into a mechanical armor in which he would be encased for the rest of his days. As a cybernetically enhanced cyborg, Grievous was humiliated and reacted violently if he was mistaken for a droid, which he despised. But he himself recognized that his new body made him an even more formidable opponent than before his reconstruction. Its magnetized claws and LX-44 legs allowed it to climb walls and ceilings with ease. Its electric traction arms could be divided in two, so it could handle up to four lightsabers at the same time”
“Before he became a cyborg, Grievous already had a distinguished reputation as a warlord on his home world of Kalee. Count Dooku and Darth Sidious had glimpsed their potential by leading their people in all-out war against their planetary neighbors, the Huk. In fact, there was a rumor that Dooku was responsible for the mysterious accident that had left Grievous mortally wounded, in order to rebuild him cybernetically and then recruit him for the separatist cause. The General did not believe the rumor, not being aware of how true it really was”
“The rage he felt towards the Jedi, against whom he had sworn revenge for considering them responsible for the hardships of his people, made Grievous become an accurate Jedi assassin. He took as trophies the lightsabers of all those who became his victims, reaching almost a hundred in his collection. In his cloak he had special pockets to keep the most precious things. Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi were spared from being part of that dismal list”
The general's intimidating hoarse voice came from an ultrasonic vocalizer located right in the center of the duranium teeth that reproduced those of the Kalee’s karabbac.
“Among the improvements made by the Geonosian biotechnicians, areas of the brain were altered without Grievous being aware of it. Heuristic programming was included to facilitate his jedi training by Dooku/Tyranus. Likewise, his coordination was improved and his memory and anger were modified to take away the horrible memories of his accident and allow him to concentrate more”
“Among the Kaleesh warriors it was traditional to wear masks carved from the bones of animals from their planet. General Grievous wanted to maintain this tradition with his mask, which was sculpted from the skull of a mumuu, one of the most fearsome animals of Kalee. The decorative lines represented the karabba blood war paintings, which the General wore on his original mask”
“The reborn General Grievous' first confrontation with the Jedi was during the Battle of Geonosis. While in the catacombs of the stalgasin, the hive city of Archduke Poggle the Lesser, he annihilated several of them, although the numerous casualties suffered by the jedi that fateful day made Grievous' participation go unnoticed.”
“Count Dooku instructed Grievous in lightsaber combat by first using the one that had belonged to a former Jedi. Subsequently, the cyborg general added to his collection with each jedi he eliminated”
Star Wars Helmet Collection 8 (German version):
"When his troop carrier crashes, Grievous is thrown from the wreckage. He suffers serious injuries that require him to be fitted with various artificial body parts and transformed into a cyborg. Only some vital organs, the spine, the lungs, the heart, the brain and the eyes, remain intact. After the changes, Grievous has stronger powers than before, but finds his appearance humiliating."
“Before being transformed into a cyborg, Grievous earned a reputation as a bloodthirsty warlord on his home world of Kalee. Count Dooku and his master, Darth Sidious, realize Grievous' inherent potential during the conflict between the Kaleesh and the insectoid Huk. Dooku himself is responsible for the spaceship crash in which Grievous is so badly injured that he has to be turned into a cyborg. The Count makes Grievous believe that the Jedi are responsible for what happened, thus increasing the general's hatred of the Order”
“The hoarse voice with which Grievous gives his orders is generated by a vocabulator behind his duranium teeth. The stylized teeth are reminiscent of those of the Karabbac”
“The warriors of the Kaleesh wear masks made from the skulls and teeth of dangerous predators from their home world. Grievous remembers this tradition and makes such a mask for himself after transforming into a cyborg. He uses the skull of a Mumuu and carves two vertical lines across the eyes, a reminder of the blood of the Karabbac with which he decorated his mask during the war against the Huk”
Build the Millennium Falcon 75 (Jun 8, 2016):
“When the Malevolence was destroyed earlier on in the Clone Wars, having been sabotaged by Anakin Skywalker, General Grievous suffered more than just the loss of a vessel that had proven so effective against the Republic shipping. He also suffered a considerable loss of face. It would be some time before he would again be trusted with a vessel worthy of his position as commander of the Separatist droid armies. For a while, Grievous had to make do with posting his flag aboard a series of endlessly disposable CIS Munificent-class frigates”
Reputation Restored
“Eventually, Count Dooku relented and Grievous was allowed to claim the Providence-class carrier/destroyer the Invisible Hand. Here, at least, was a ship Grievous could use to further cement his appalling reputation for vicious excess”
Final Fight
“Provided with the secret coordinates that allowed Grievous to come out of hyperspace directly over Coruscant, the Invisible Hand led a surprise attack on the Republic capital world. Within minutes, a substantial number of the Republic Star Destroyers protecting the cityworld were reduced to flaming wreckage, with the Invisible Hand counting for many of the kills. Amidst the chaos and panic, Grievous flew down to the planet itself and took a single, but invaluable prisoner ― Supreme Chancellor Palpatine ― before returning to his flagship
Baue den Millennium Falcon 75 (Jun 8, 2015):
“After Grievous had obtained the secret coordinates that allowed him to jump from hyperspace directly to Coruscant, he attacked the Republic capital with his fleet. Within few minutes, the attackers destroyed a large number of the defense ships. Grievous took advantage of the general chaos to land a shuttle on Coruscant. There he took control of Chancellor Palpatine and returned with him to the Invisible Hand”
Star Wars Helmet Collection 18 (Sept 7, 2016):
Kit Fisto
“Assisting the Republic team trying to track down escaped prisoner Nute Gunray, Fisto ended up battling General Grievous in the cyborg’s own castle on Vassek. Barely escaping, the Nautolan was, nonetheless, one of the few Jedi to fight Grievous and survive”
Star Wars Helmet Collection 19 (Sept 21, 2016):
Adi Gallia
“A claim and measured warrior, Gallia was very effective both as a general and as a fighter. She faced General Grievous one-on-one during the rescue mission to free Master Eeth Koth from the Separatist commander, and survived that encounter too ― something few other Jedi were able to achieve”
Star Wars: Complete Locations (Sept 27, 2016):
“Due to its remote location, Utapau is initially able to maintain its neutrally as turmoil engulfs the galaxy, joining neither the Republic, nor any other faction. That changes when General Grievous selects Utapau as a hiding place for the Separatist Council in the final days of the war”
“Despite his ability to wield multiple lightsabers, General Grievous’s planned ambush for Obi-Wan Kenobi was unsuccessful. The resourceful Jedi Master ultimately defeated the Separatist General using a conventional weapon”
Propaganda: A History of Persuasive Art in the Galaxy (Oct 25, 2016):
“In Republic space, Count Dooku was branded as public enemy number one. The next greatest threat to Republic safety was General Grievous, the cyborg commander of the droid army. The Republic painted Grievous as a mechanical monstrously ― a description that played to deep-seated fears regarding droids. One by-product of the Clone Wars was an exacerbation of anti-droid sentiment in the galaxy. Once useful automatons were branded as potential security threats, and combat droids were heavily regulated in Republic space”
“When the Republic military destroyed both Count Dooku and General Grievous, the war was brought to an end”
“Grotesque caricatures have long been a regrettable form of propaganda message. Prior to the outbreak of the war, Count Dooku had been frequently described in media reports as "handsome," "patrician," or "dignified" in countenance. Once the war erupted, Republic artwork began to distort portraits of Dooku. In this image, Dooku's features were exaggerated to appear hawk-like, or like a cutting edge sharp to the touch. The specter of General Grievous hovering behind him like some mechanical puppet master served to further strip away any shred of humanity from Dooku. Such is the nature of war; a mere decade earlier, Dooku was the subject of reverent portraiture and sculpture in the Republic, as his departure from the Jedi Order to reclaim his royal title on Serenno was a momentous occasion. But the war transformed him into a ghoul intended to haunt the citizens of the Republic”
Star Wars Helmet Collection 22 (Nov 2, 2016):
Nute Gunray
“Gunray clashed frequently with the commander of the droid armies, General Grievous, who held the ridiculous opinion that Gunray was irrelevant”
Star Wars: Galactic Atlas (Nov 3, 2016):
“The Kaleesh warrior Grievous was a fearsome cyborg, with almost all of his original body replaced with mechanical “upgrade”. Trained in lightsaber combat by Count Dooku, he became a key Separatist general, commanding vast droid armies”
Star Wars Helmet Collection 24 (Nov 30, 2016):
History
“Holowan Mechanicals was responsible over the years for a number of droids that would haunt the nightmares of all who encountered them. The IG-series droids were to prove a controversial design and would include enforcers and assassins. However, the most fearsome would be the IG-100 MagnaGuards ― the Jedi killers”
“The MagnaGuard droids were commissioned by Count Dooku, leader of the Separatists, to act as bodyguards for General Grievous. Its was Grievous who gave the droids the distinctive cloaks, with their partial hoods, which were reminiscent of those worn by warriors on Grievous’s home planet of Kalee. The MagnaGuards, their basic programming augmented by training at the hands of Grievous himself, were so successful that Count Dooku made use of the droids himself, and they were loaned out to Dooku’s trusted agents, including the bounty hunter Cad Bane”
Formidable Foe
“For the most part, however, the IG 100 MagnaGuards were synonymous with Grievous, with at least two accompanying him everywhere. Able to use any weapon in the Separatist arsenal, and to quickly adapt to any others they found, the MagnaGuards could also pilot ground vehicles and starfighters. Armed with their distinctive electrostaffs, they were a deadly threat to all who faced them ― including Jedi Knights”
“During the Clone Wars, General Grievous became a legendary figure, but it is unlikely that he would have had such a fearsome reputation without his droid entourage, the deadly IG-100 MagnaGuards”
Kaleesh cloak
“In the same way that his own facemask paid tribute to his past as a Kaleesh warrior. General Grievous ensured that the cloaks and partial hoods with which he equipped his MagnaGuards also harked back to the warrior traditions of the planet Kalee. They also helped to give the IG-100 droids an even more menacing appearance”
Unstoppable Force
“Holowan Mechanicals, part of Holowan Laboratories, ensured that the IG-100 MagnaGuards looked intimidating: the dull red glow of their photoreceptors, their expressionless faces, their sheer physical bulk all creating a fearsome aspect. The droids had a number of physical attributes to back this up”
Body Building
“Bringing down a MagnaGuard was not easy. They could lose an arm ― or even both legs ― and still be a threat. Thanks to a number of redundant systems, and a spare photoreceptor in the chest, the MagnaGuards could lose their heads and fight on. Jedi and clone troopers eventually learned to target their vital systems but even this wasn’t easy, as the IG-100s were heavily armoured, with duranium used in their main frame and armour plating. Even hitting one with sufficient force to knock it down or stagger it was hard, as their feet could anchor them magnetically and their heels could extend for greater stability”
Veterans
“As the Clone Wars drew on, the MagnaGuards that survived gained numerous nicks and scratches to their body armour, and Grievous made sure those were left clearly visible, to show their foes that they were facing battle veterans. Any attacker seeking to reach General Grievous would have to face just such experienced bodyguards as these. Even if the IG-100s failed to kill their opponent, the exhausted enemy that finally reached Grievous would hardly be a credible threat”
Duel to the Death
“By the time they faced each other on Utapau, their second encountered that world, General Grievous and Obi-Wan Kenobi had crossed blades on many occasions. This time would be the last”
“As commander of the droid armies of the Confederacy of Independent System during the Clone Wars, General Grievous had brought death and despair across thousands star systems that had been defenceless against his ruthless tactics. For the Jedi High Council, the arrest of General Grievous had quickly become a priority. Every time his capture seemed inevitable, however, he had eluded the forces of the Republic at the last moment, choosing to flee and leave his forces to be destroyed. Though Mace Windu and the rest of the Council branded Grievous a coward, the truth was that he was a relentless and expert foe who, despite not being able to use the Force, had defeated numerous Jedi in battle. Grievous had become arrogant, believing he was untouchable. On Utapau, this would be his undoing...”
Of No Further Use
“At the Battle of Coruscant, Grievous had fled, barely escaping Skywalker and Kenobi. Grievous’s master, Darth Sidious, sent him to Utapau on the pretence of ordering the Separatist Council to Mustafar but in fact, Sidious had other plans for Grievous. The Sith Lord’s schemes had advanced to the point that Grievous had one part left to play ― he was bait to draw Kenobi away from Coruscant and from Anakin. Whether Grievous or Kenobi lived or died was irrelevant to Darth Sidious. His plan would bring down the Republic and the Jedi”
“Obi-Wan had battled Grievous many times before and was well prepared. Even as his clone troops arrived and the Battle of Utapau began, Kenobi managed to lop off two of Grievous’s hands. Immediately, the cyborg fled. Obi-Wan chased him to a private landing field where Grievous’s starfighter was stored. There they fought again, with the cyborg gaining the upper hand. Hurling Kenobi off the platform, where he hung on desperately, Grievous picked up a MagnaGuard staff and moved in for the kill. Calling the general’s blaster to him using the Force, Obi-Wan trained the weapon on Grievous, incinerating the last remaining organic parts in the cyborg. The blackened metal body hit the ground with a clang. Grievous was dead”
Parting Shot
“Obi-Wan opened Grievous’s chest and exposed his artificial gut-sac, the last reminiscents of the living General. The Jedi than fired several blaster shots into the cyborg’s body, which exploded in flames. Kenobi threw the blaster away in disgust”
Star Wars Helmet Collection 25 (Dec 14, 2016):
IG-100 MagnaGuards
“Manufactured by Holowan Mechanicals, MagnaGuards were created under Count Dooku, leader of the Separatists. They were intended for the sole use of General Grievous, the cyborg who led the droid armies of the CIS, but the bodyguards were so impressive that Dooku himself made use of them too. Armoured in duranium and trained in all forms of combat by Grievous himself, the IG-100s were notoriously tough”
The Betrayal
“When Obi-Wan pursued General Grievous, he dropped his lightsaber. Commander Cody found the weapon and returned it to General Kenobi when he came back to report the victory over Grievous”
“The clone troopers were tasked with harassing the fighting machines and keeping them occupied to allow Obi-Wan to focus on a unique duel with the cyborg general. The members of the 212th fulfilled their mission and, despite suffering multiple casualties as they were greatly outnumbered by the separatist troops, finally managed to reduce their enemies and win the battle”
Tion Medon
“When Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi landed at the starport in Pau City, he was immediately met by Port Administrator Tion Medon. One of the more senior figures of the Utapau government, Medon’s presence could easily be explained by the chaos Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker had wrought on their last visit. However, Tion was under considerable pressure ― though his preternaturally clam demeanour didn’t show it General Grievous had taken over a sizeable chunk of the city, and was holding the population hostage on threat of fiery destruction if they gave away his presence there. The sight of the Core Ship was not unusual, even as far out as Utapau, but Medon whispered to Obi-Wan that there were many battle droids there”
Intrigue on Utapau
“Once, it had been a target for Darth Sidious because of the discovery there of a huge kyber crystal, but General Grievous’s attempt to procure that crystal was thwarted by Jedi Generals Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. The episode threw local politics into chaos when it was revealed that several league with the Separatists”
“If the Utapaun peoples had hoped the defeat of Grievous and the loss of the crystal would return their world to relative obscurity, they were disappointed. Grievous returned, this time with an occupying force. Holding the threat of instant destruction over Pau’uns and Utai, Grievous set up a base in Pau City, and there ― under orders from Sidious ― kept the Separatist Council safely hidden. After the death of Dooku at the Battle of Coruscant, Sidious ordered Grievous to Utapau to take the council to Mustafar”
Sleight of Hand
“Cody was in the thick of the action when a lightsaber fell from the sky. It was Obi-Wan’s, of course. Cody sent a message to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, letting them know that Kenobi had found and engaged the cyborg general. Time passed quickly then, with Cody and his troops ― with assistance from the locals ― driving the droid army further and further back. Victory looked inevitable when Obi-Wan rode up on a varactyl with the news that Grievous was dead”
Cascos de Colección 25
“The fierce combat between Grievous and Obi-Wan unfolded through various levels of the city, first as a lightsaber duel, and then as a fast-paced chase through the labyrinthine tunnels that ended on a secret landing platform. There, Obi-Wan finally finished off Grievous with his own blaster, a very uncivilized method in the Jedi's opinion. Meanwhile, the clone troops of the Battalion 212th, led by Commander Cody, aided by the loyal Pau’an militias, gained ground until they destroyed the combat droids. The battle of Utapau was one of the final contests of the Clone Wars. With the death of Grievous, the conflict that had caused the loss of countless lives seemed about to end. The Jedi did not suspect that it would be the beginning of the end.”
Star Wars Coleccion Casco 27 (Jan 11, 2017):
“When in the final stages of the Clone Wars it was besieged by Separatist forces, the Jedi Council decided to send a clone battalion led by Master Yoda as reinforcements to help its inhabitants defend the planet. Despite their membership in the Republic, the Wookiees had initially tried to remain neutral in the conflict, but the importance of the planet had pushed both sides to establish a series of negotiations with the royal families of Kashyyyk, trying to convince them to join their cause. However, General Grievous got tired of waiting for a decision favorable to his interests and ordered to prepare a large-scale attack, thinking that the threat would "persuade" the Wookiees, to accept the conditions posed by Count Dooku and the allies of him. However, this move was shown to be a serious mistake. The Wookiees were fierce warriors and reacted with rage, declaring all-out war on the forces that threatened to invade them”
Revenge of the Sith Read-Along Storybook and CD (Mar 7, 2017):
“Meanwhile Grievous sent word to Darth Sidious about all that had happened. The shadowy figure reassured his loyal servant. “The end of the war is near, General.” Darth Sidious did not seem concerned by the loss of Dooku”
Star Wars Helmet Collection 33 (Apr 5, 2017):
Kongo the Disemboweller
“The volcanic world of Mustafar breeds tough creatures, and Kongo was no exception. Semi-sentient, Kongo was reputedly the last of his kind ― though that may have been an effort to make him seem more mysterious and exotic to the crowds attending Grakkus the Hutt’s arena fights on Nar Shaddaa. Kongo had been found in the dolovite mines on Mustafar, where he hunted dangerous creatures in the tunnels. His skins was tough enough to shrug off lava. It was also lightsaber resistant, as Luke Skywalker discovered to his cost. Grakkus had enhanced Kongo with various cybernetics, meaning the beast was nearly unstoppable. After the Imperial raid on Grakkus’ operation, Kongo’s final fate was uncertain”
Star Wars Helmet Collection 35 (May 3, 2017):
Dawn of the Imperial Age
“The sudden and ferocious attack of the 212 Battalion threw the Separatist droid forces into such confusion that they barely had a chance to mount a successful defence of their positions in Pau City. The death of General Grievous at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi further staggered the embattled droids. With no specific front to fight on, and the confusion in the chain of command, the droids were reduced to small pockets of resistance that were quickly overwhelmed”
Escape from Utapau
“General Grievous was dead at last. Obi-Wan Kenobi had finally, after so many attempts during the previous years, ended the menace of the cyborg commander.”
Betrayal
“Carefully, Obi-Wan returned to the site of his final battle with General Grievous. There, beside the smoking remains of his former foe, Grievous’ starfighter ― the Soulless One ― sat waiting. Obi-Wan fired up the engines and took off, heading for space as fast as possible and relying on the element of surprise to whip past his old flagship and away”
Build Your Own R2-D2 20 (May, 2017):
“A4-D was gifted to General Grievous to act as both surgeon and cybernetics repair mechanic for the cyborg. The droid lived in Grievous’s castle on the third moon of Vassek, where the Separatist commander returned from time to time for repairs and medical checks. Because he was one of the few entitles in the galaxy who knew his master's secrets, A4-D remained indispensable, which gave him an inflated sense of self-worth. And although his caustic humour needled Grievous, A4-D was allowed to live, so long as he did his job”
The Cyborg and the Jedi (Sept 26, 2017):
“The cyborg didn’t have to wait long before the Sith Lord contacted him. “The end of the war is near,” Darth Sidious said. “Soon I will have a new apprentice.” After the loss of Count Dooku, Sidious wanted to waste little time before finding a replacement. The Sith Lord told Grievous to continue waiting on Utapau until the new apprentice had joined their cause”
“The cyborg extended his four arms, revealing that each one held a lightsaber. Obi-Wan heard the snap-hiss of the blades igniting as Grievous stomped forward, spinning two of the blades above his head. He dragged the other two along the ground, sending sparks hurtling toward Obi-Wan”
“The Jedi waited for the perfect moment, then stabbed his lightsaber between Grievous’s flashing blades. Obi-Wan cut through two of Grievous’s lightsabers, disarming half of the cyborg’s deadly weapons. Obi-Wan pressed his advantage, driving Grievous back farther and farther”
“The droids watched as their leader lost more and more ground. But before they could help Grievous fight back, hail of blaster bolts filled the air. The clone troopers had arrived!”
“He used the Force to push Grievous up against a wall, causing the cyborg to drop his remaining two lightsabers”
“Obi-Wan looked desperately around for anything that could help him-until he spotted Grievous’s blaster! The Jedi reached out with the Force and drew the blaster into his hand. Without hesitating, he fired at Grievous, finally defeating the cyborg once and for all”
“Grievous was gone, and his droid army would soon be defeated, as well”
“The Jedi were closer than ever to finally ending the Clone Wars”
Build Your Own R2-D2 40 (Oct, 2017):
“When General Grievous returned to Utapau in the last weeks of the Clone Wars, he brought with him an occupying force. A droid ‘factory’ within the core ship that landed in Pau City churned out the battle droids needed to keep the local population in line. This included the smaller octuptarra droids, which Grievous positioned around occupied buildings and other important structures. When the Republic launched a surprise attack, the octuptarra droids stayed to the rear, firing over the heads of crab droids, and of B1 and B2 battle droids”
Ghosts of Dathomir (Oct 19, 2017):
“During the Clone Wars, some of the mysterious Nightsisters sided with Count Dooku and the Separatists, using their “magick” to aid their allies. However, the only side the Nightsisters are ever really on is their own, and ally any such alliances are inevitably temporarlly”
“The Emperor is well aware of the Nightsisters, though, and a small Imperial garrison nominally keeps watch over their activities. The garrison's real functions are to watch for ships that might take the Nightsisters into the galaxy, and to alert their superiors if this occurs”
“Rumors persist that the world had some strategic value to Separatist leaders during the Clone Wars”
Star Wars Battlefront II (EA) (Nov 17, 2017):

“Master, I have instructed my army, take no prisoners.” “I have taught you well my apprentice.” ―Grievous and Dooku
“Jedi or no I shall still have my rewards.” “Don’t let your pursuit of trinkets cloud your reality.” ―Grievous and Dooku

“Who knew vainglorious cyborgs were my stock and trade” ―Obi-Wan Kenobi, to Grievous
“Oh, the Padawan Skywalker’s apprentice so many lightsabers to add to my collection.” ―Grievous, to Ahsoka Tano
“Tano, so it is to be a rematch then. Your master is not here to save you now.” ―Grievous, to Ahsoka
“Senator Amidala, I presume, oh I’ve never killed the Queen before, I will last as Naboo mourns your death. You only prolong the inevitable.” ―Grievous, to Padme
“Senator, this is for the Malevolence.” ―Grievous, to Padme
The Duel for Peace (Dec 15, 2017):
“Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi peered down from the shadows. It had been a long time since he’d last seen Count Dooku’s second-in-command, General Grievous, but he would recognize the cyborg’s mechanical cough anywhere.”
“Obi-Wan was on the small planet of Utapau. The Jedi Council had sent him to stop Grievous and his Separatist comrades, whose evil plans had caused the galaxy to erupt into war and chaos. Obi-Wan’s apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, had finally defeated Count Dooku, but Grievous still stood in the way of peace. It was Obi-Wan’s job to put an end to the evil cyborg once and for all.”
“General Grievous shrugged off his cloak, extended his four menacing arms, and ignited a lightsaber in each mechanical hands. The evil cyborg had taken the powerful weapons from the Jedi he had defeated in the past.”
“Obi-Wan would not allow Grievous to do the same with his lightsaber.”
“General Grievous spun his lightsabers, burning the floor beneath him. He strode closer and closer to Obi-Wan, his weapons a blur of light.”
“Grievous may have been trained by Count Dooku, but Obi-Wan had studied under Master Yoda and Qui-Gon Jinn. Their teachings had taught him patience and how to trust the Force, but they had also trained him how to use a lightsaber. The Jedi Master raised his blade, slashing it against two of the general’s”
“The cyborg battled back, but Obi-Wan’s lightsaber was always there. It wasn’t long before Obi-Wan had destroyed all but two of Grievous’s lightsabers”
“With a mighty Force push, Obi-Wan threw General Grievous back. The cyborg hit the ground hard but not hard enough. He saw his chance to flee”
“Grievous raced to his large wheel bike and steered it away from the battle”
“Obi-Wan couldn’t let General Grievous escape”
“If Obi-Wan stopped to retrieve it, he’d lose his chance to catch General Grievous. But the thought of facing the cyborg without his lightsaber was certainly unsettling”
“The reached out, grabbing the edge just in time. General Grievous laughed. His victory was nearly complete. But General Grievous had forgotten about the blaster. Obi-Wan reached for it using the Force and blasted the general just in time”
“With Grievous gone, the war could finally end”
Star Wars: Jedi of the Republic (Dec 27, 2017)
(Full comic)
“‘General’ Grievous. In less respectful terms than I would have put It.” ―General Grievous, to AD-W4
“Of course not. Your mastery of killing is only matched by your apparent flare for the dramatic. We have use for the former.” ―Grievous
“I do wish I were available to oversee this undertaking myself, but when you are in charge of an entire army, sometimes enjoyment must be set aside. No problems, only increasing credit amounts. Jedi aren’t cheap. I hope you aren’t either.” ―Grievous and AD-W4
“How are you finding the assistance of the droid battalion? Have they quelled your superiority complex programming?” “You jest, Grievous. Their battle prowess is laughable while their ‘banter’ is―” “He is so mean to us! Meaner even than you General. All we want to do is given him a callsign and―” “They do, however, make excellent blaster fodder.” ―General Grievous, droid mercenary AD-W4, and a B1 battle droid
Build Your Own R2-D2 51 (Jan, 2018):
“The Separatist high command ensured that tactical droids would be completely loyal to it ― which could present an interesting situation for allied commanders. For example, T-series droids would happily abandon an ally, if ordered to do so by Count Dooku or General Grievous. Equally, if a battle endangered the droids’ safety, it would leave an ally behind, in order to preserve the information, it carried on CIS operations. This occurred when the capital of Ryloth was captured by the Republic, Wat Tambor was late returning to his shuttle, so the T-series droid he’d been working with left him behind and took the ship ― loaded with looted treasure ― back to its CIS masters”
Dawn of Rebellion (Feb 22, 2018):
“None know what became of them, save that they faded into oblivion during the closing days of the Clone Wars. Dathomir still bears the scars of their legacy”
“Shelish, the only known surviving Nightsabers, spends much of her time hiding in the swamps of Jhas Krill, the eleventh moon of Jhas, in the Hoth system. Although she was absent during the loss of her people on Dathomir, she may also be found on that world at times, searching for clues about their fate, trusting in the magick of her people, she waits for a student worthy to inherit her dark secrets”
“The few who claim to have survived encounters with this individual are unsure whether the armor houses a living being, a combat droid, or even a clone trooper”
Build Your Own R2-D2 57 (Mar 2018):
Manufacturers of the controversial IG-series of enforcer and security droids, Holowan Mechanicals ― part of Holowan Laboratories ― developed the MagnaGuard for a client with a known hatred of droids.
“The IG-series included both the IG-86 sentry and the IG-RM enforcer ― the two of which were indelibly associated with the criminal underworld. The IG-100 was not known for its intelligence, nor the IG-86 for its subtlety, but Holowan took a very different approach with the IG-100 MagnaGuard, creating a bespoke battle droid for a very exacting client ― General Grievous”
“Despite leading the Separatists’ droid armies, Grievous despised the battle droids. They were mass-produced, weak, and stupid ― poor soldiers tasked with a glorious mission beyond their capabilities. Giving Grievous droid bodyguards would require a strong, intelligent, able combat droid. Fortunately, that’s exactly what Holowan delivered”
“In development, the MagnaGuards were snappily titled the Prototype Self-Motivating Heuristically Programmed Combat Droid. Two key elements from that name set them apart from most battle droids. They were self-motivating, requiring no droid control programming. Given a task, they got on with a terribly, adapting intelligently to any obstacles along the way. The MagnaGuards had heuristic, programming, allowing them to learn from the things they experienced. This feature in particular was appreciated by General Grievous, who trained the droids himself to ensure their effectiveness in combat, and subsequently used them as sparring partners to keep himself sharp”
“The droids were such a great success that Count Dooku used a cadre of MagnaGuards as bodyguards, while Grievous was rarely seen without at least two at his side. In his castle home on a moon of Vassek, MagnaGuards patrolled the fortress and immediate surroundings to keep the place secure. The MagnaGuards were often sent in by Grievous to soften up an opponent, sacrificed to tire out a Jedi sufficiently to allow Grievous a certain kill. The cyborg used them as scout and as assassins, as well as to enforce his will. Terrifying in their own right, the threat of the MagnaGuard was that Grievous ― or Dooku ― was never far behind”
“Despite his hatred of droids, General Grievous soon realised the huge capabilities of the MagnaGuards. He trained his personal squad to make them into a lethally effective fighting force”
“The droid’s vital areas were protected by the same duranium plates that served General Grievous so well”
The cloaks and hoods worn by the MagnaGuards echoed the garb worn by the companions with whom Grievous had shared his past victories.
"When he was still the Kaleesh warlord Qymaen jai Sheelal, Grievous was accompanied wherever he went by a coterie of bodyguards ― elite warriors who shared his love of battle. After he had undergone the operations that transformed him into a cyborg, he replaced this group of guards with droid warriors who would carry out his orders even more unquestioningly than his former band of supporters”
“General Grievous had a fortress home on the third moon of the planet Vassek, it was important to him as a refuge, and a safe haven where he could undergo repairs when damaged in battle”
“MagnaGuards were trained to fight in groups ― with at least two acting together. When dealing with the Jedi, the MagnaGuards formed a shield around Grievous that few could pass. Those that did survive were generally too exhausted to prove much more than entertainment for the cyborg general”
Build Your Own R2-D2 77 (Aug 2018):
“Although he generally despised droids, cyborg General Grievous was not above supervising the design of special units. When it became necessary to scare the Galactic Senate into voting the way Darth Sidious wished (deregulating the galactic banks to allow dangerous, short-term practices to shore up the faltering economy, and to permit the financing of a considerable loan to the Republic for more clone troops), Count Dooku entrusted the mission to General Grievous”
Star Wars Helmet Collection 59 (German):
“Typical of Kaleesh helmets are the long side slits for the eyes. If the light falls on the helmet at a certain angle, it can be seen from a short distance”
“The legendary warriors of the Kaleesh sometimes made their masks from the skulls of killed predators. Although Sidon Ithano comes from the planet Delphidia, he wears an ancient Kaleesh mask to conceal his identity and give himself a mysterious appearance”
Star Wars Helmet Collection 61 (May 2, 2018):
“Kenobi would return to Utapau within months after General Grievous had brought the Separatist Council there when he occupied Pau City. Kenobi and Grievous fought a fierce duel, with the Jedi finally destroying the cyborg. Unfortunately, the Clone troops who served under Kenobi to liberate the Utai and the Pau’ans from the Separatist occupation soon became invaders themselves. Order 66 was given moments after Kenobi destroyed Grievous, prompting his troops to turn on him”
Knights of Fate (Jun 21, 2018):
(#1)
“During the Clone Wars, the Separatist General Grievous demonstrated that one need not be strong in the Force to threaten even the greatest Jedi in combat. Sometimes mistaken at first blush for a droid, so extensive were his augmentations, the former Kaleesh warlord chose to be rebuilt as the cyborg Grievous in his quest to become the greatest warrior in the galaxy. Trained by Count Dooku in the ways of lightsaber combat, Grievous utilized a unique style that took full advantage of his new body's four mechanical arms and their versatile articulation. Drawing from his lifetime of experience and with the advantages offered by his mechanical body, Grievous slew numerous Jedi, collecting their lightsabers as trophies”
“The chaff cloud also makes a frightfully potent anti-ship weapon, as discovered by Jadthu-class pilots during the Battle of Haruun Kal when fast-moving vulture droid starfighters were chewed up by clouds of Caltrop-5 chaff”
Star Wars Day-at-a-Time Calendar 2019 (Sept 1, 2018):
“General Grievous serves as the supreme commander of the Droid Army during the Clone Wars until his defeat at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi. A cyborg, Grievous once a Kaleesh warlord and was rebuilt after a shuttle crash”
“MagnaGuards serves as General Grievous’ own droid bodyguards. Built to the cyborg’s specifications, MagnaGuards emulate the mighty Kaleesh warriors from Grievous’ past”
“Aptly named Soulless One, the customized Belbullab-22 starfighter flown by General Grievous is fast, agile and easily recognizable by its two sets of triple laser canons. He uses it to try to escape Utapau, but Obi-Wan Kenobi kills the Separatist general and flies the Soulless One to meet Yoda and Bail Organa”
Star Wars Bust Collection 17 (Sept 4, 2018):
The Battle of Utapau
“The General’s droid soldiers prevented the clone troops from coming to aid of the Jedi, and in the heat of the duel, Kenobi’s lightsaber was knocked out of his hand. By chance it came to rest in front of Commander Cody. The clone commander retrieved the weapon and reported the state of the battle back to the Jedi Council”
“Even though, for a time, the combat was evenly matched, the victory eventually went to Kenobi. In the heart of the cyborg was a sac containing the general’s vital organs - one of his few organic components. Kenobi used the Force to draw a blaster into his hand, and delivered a shot straight into the organic sac”
The Horror of Order 66
“In spite of the death of their general, the droid army continued to battle clone troopers which were ordered to take control of the planet”
Star Wars: Droidography (Nov 6, 2018):
“With its signature electrostaff appearing in it metallic hands, the IG-100 MagnaGuards was an elite battle droid assigned to the protection of important officers, including the cybernetic enhanced General Grievous. The MagnaGuards were programmed to be excellent combatants, capable of facing the best warriors of the Republic, Jedi Knights included. Which makes me wonder why the base battle droids couldn't incorporate some of their combat techs into our programming. Had we had some of the nice abilities of the MagnaGuards in our databases, we would have been able to give the Jed what they deserved”
Star Wars: The Dark Side (Spanish) (Dec 6, 2018):
“While not a Force Sensitive, General Grievous created a counterpoint to his lack of supernatural abilities with cybernetic enhancements that made him deadly to the Jedi he encountered. The Kaleesh cyborg in command of the Separatist forces prioritized the pursuit of Jedi generals, using his strategic acumen to board their ships and capture them. When Grievous boarded Jedi General Eeth Koth's ship Steadfast, he had devised a system capable of overcoming a Jedi and the clones under his command by deploying a combination of command droids and MagnaGuards. Koth was imprisoned and used by Grievous to taunt the Jedi Council. He posed a serious enough threat that the Council sent a team of their best Jedi - Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Adi Gallia - to free Koth and attempt to capture Grievous with an elaborate clone-implemented anchor system. During the Battle of Saleucami, scores of clones and numerous Republic fleet assets were sacrificed in a vain attempt to capture the cyborg general”
“Tyranus united different factions against the Republic and concentrated a considerable military force commanded by General Grievous. His notable subordinates include the supreme commander of the Separatist Droid Army, General Grievous, and the assassin Asajj Ventress. Tyranus trained Grievous, a Kaleesh cyborg, in the art of lightsaber combat. Grievous defeated numerous Jedi, both in military and hand-to-hand combat. When the general failed to meet Sith expectations, having lost a few campaigns, Tyranus lured the effective Jedi clones to Grievous' fortress and deactivated his private MagnaGuard drones in order to punish him. Grievous barely survived and paid a high and brutal price for having defrauded the Sith. Under cyborg command, the Separatist Droid Army left a trail of destruction in their wake, which distracted the Jedi Order from the Sith machinations taking place right under their noses on Coruscant“
“Tyranus also pitted Ventress against Grievous on his own behalf”
“Surgical reconstruction of Emperor Palpatine on Coruscant. Several of the assisting droids that participated in the sophisticated surgery that saved Vader's life were later relocated to the castle, including medical assist droid DD-13, surgical droid 2-1B and medical assist droid FX-6. The latter, the FX-6, was the same droid that built General Grievous and, under Vader's supervision, continued to design and implement improvements to the Sith Lord’s outfit”
“Many have been caught in the conspiratorial web laid out by the Dark Side’s thinking minds. Queen Admidala of Naboo was guided in the political sphere by Sheev Palpatine, who used his youthful idealism for his own political benefit during the crisis of the Naboo Trade Federation. General Grievous' absorbing desire to improve his combat techniques led to a provision that allowed for Sith-sponsored cybernetic transplants, which made him a far superior fighting machine to any Kaleesh”
“While disreputable criminals could handle the simplest of tasks, confrontation with the Jedi required more capable adversaries. For them, the Sith enlisted henchmen with special abilities and an intense hatred of the Jedi, such as General Grievous and Asajj Ventress. Grievous had been a successful warlord on his home world of Kalee. He detested politics, but aspired to lead the largest military force in the galaxy. A brilliant strategist, Grievous could not defeat a Jedi in hand-to-hand combat, so he accepted the placement of cyborg implants to enhance his abilities. Grievous commanded the Droid Army of the separatist faction, which brought him into direct confrontation with the Jedi he despised. Similarly, it was not exactly love that Asajj Ventress professed towards the Jedi Order. She considered that they had abandoned Ky Narec, a Jedi who had found her on the planet Rattatak and that Ventress's rage filled her with power on the Dark Side. Trained by Count Dooku, Asajj Ventress served at times as an assassin and undercover agent and at others in command of droid units. Between Grievous and Ventress they felled many Jedi”
“General Grievous' campaign against the Republic challenged the very identity of the Jedi Order. The brutal and determined strategy he had learned as a warlord required the Jedi to captain clone troopers, born of technological advances. Many members of the Jedi Council identified the dangers to the Order, but the pressure of the coming incursion or the coming loss of a world to the cyborg separatist leader kept them from further reflection.”
“Unaware of the threat that awaited him, Grievous was admonished by Dooku and informed that he needed to turn over more dead Jedi to prove his worth to the Sith. Catching General Grievous off guard inside his shelter, Fisto and Vebb ambushed him and severed his legs, but the cyborg, whose limbs gave him great mobility, climbed to the roof and fled.”
“In his control room, Grievous ordered the EV-A4-D medicalized droid to proceed with repairs. The lair had a large storage area for limb requests; unlike most opponents, the cyborg could afford to lose a limb or two in combat, which would slow him down but not stop him. However, Grievous' conversion into a cyborg had not been perfect, and he coughed constantly. This information was in the possession of the Sith in case they had other candidates for conversion in the future. Each repair practiced on Grievous was a new lesson on how to employ technology to best advantage against his enemies”
“Then Fisto narrowly escaped in a starfighter and returned to Coruscant knowing the location of the general's lair”
“In essence, the test had served to highlight Grievous' capabilities: hand-to-hand combat against a Jedi master could be a great match for him; however, at the same time, the test confirmed the weaknesses that had been apparent in the Jedi Order since the beginning of the Clone Wars.”
“Stripped of their identities and assigned numbers corresponding to their order of enlistment, the Brothers and Sisters of the Order of the Inquisitors envisioned what the Jedi stood for in a radically different way than Grievous had”
“Trained by Count Dooku in the art of lightsaber combat, the Kaleesh cyborg General Grievous killed many Jedi during the Clone Wars and kept their weapons as a trophy. Served the Confederation of Independent Systems as Supreme Commander of the Droid Army. His tactical acumen gave numerous victories to the separatist faction. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi confronted Grievous on several occasions, forging a bitter rivalry that ended with a final face-to-face confrontation on Utapau”
“Addicted to the glory of war, Grievous valued courage in combat above all else. He underwent the placement of cyborg implants to increase his fighting abilities”
“As a young man, Grievous idolized the warlords of his home world, Kalee, whom he saw returning with spoils of war and freely appropriating the goods of the conquered. He achieved his status as a warlord faster than most, and then looked to the stars to continue his conquests. Grievous soon perceived that the Jedi, with their supernatural abilities, were almost invincible in hand-to-hand combat, and he hated them for it. The Sith, seeking to experiment with technologically advanced beings, offered him an undeniable opportunity. Beyond boasting of having been trained in the Jedi arts, not much is known about his conversion into a cyborg or his training with Count Dooku”
“Grievous easily overpowered Ahsoka before moving on to kill Rex, but Ahsoka recovered in time to block the cyborg’s deadly blow. Knowing that she couldn’t finish off Grievous on her own, she deftly dodged his attacks and opted to retreat. However, Grievous captured her by grabbing her neck, ready to seize her lightsaber so that she could join his trophy list. Anakin and Rex’s accidental detonation of explosives on the platform was enough of a distraction for Ahsoka to escape from Grievous”
“The rivalry between Grievous and Ventress, however, implied a constant dispute between them and that they worked separately and not together”
“Grievous fled aboard his starfighter, since the supply ship had exploded, which meant, once again, that he failed in the fulfillment of the tasks assigned by his ruthless superior”
“The separatist general served as a central figure in one of the key maneuvers of the highest Sith rulers: the abduction of Chancellor Palpatine, Darth Sidious' alter ego, on the Republic's capital, the world of Coruscant. With most of the war being fought on the Outer Rim, Grievous' brazen attack on the heart of the Republic struck fear throughout the galaxy”
“Grievous brought Palpatine to the Invisible Hand and proceeded with the Battle of Coruscant. As the Republic and Separatist fleets engaged in an all-out war, Kenobi and Skywalker crash-landed their Jedi starfighters in the Invisible Hand's hangar to board the flagship. Dooku was killed by Skywalker during the Chancellor's rescue, but Grievous's ray shields stopped them in a corridor before they could leave the ship. In the cyborg's first encounter with Skywalker, the young Jedi managed to wriggle free of the manacles. Kenobi and Skywalker easily dispatched the MagnaGuards and other battle droids and cornered Grievous. With his leader dead and his bodyguard gone, Grievous realized that the odds were against him, so he shattered the window with his electrostaff. Able to withstand the vacuum of space, the cyborg used his clawed feet as well as the hook on his arm to traverse the exterior to an escape pod”
“Now holding the position of Head of State of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Grievous headed to Utapau for his appointment with the Separatist Council. On Sidious's orders, the general sent the Council to Mustafar. Shortly after they left, Kenobi, who had been sent by the Jedi Council to stop Grievous' feet, charged in and disposed of the MagnaGuards with no trouble. Grievous ordered his battle droids to the rear, anxious to be the one to kill Kenobi himself in revenge for having defeated him on a previous occasion on Utapau, as well as to prove himself worthy of Sidious. Throughout their multiple duels, Kenobi had learned a thing or two and quickly managed to slice off two of the cyborg's four arms”
“As Attack Battalion 212 of the Republic Clone Army arrived to placate the Droid Army, Kenobi's Force pushed Grievous away and disarmed him. Grievous fled on his wheel-bike, and Kenobi followed him through the city on the back of a female varactyl named Boga. Though he dropped his lightsaber, Kenobi used Grievous's electro-staff to cause the wheel-bike to crash. Unarmed, Kenobi was at a physical disadvantage to engage in hand-to-hand combat with the cyborg, which ended with him hanging on the edge of the platform, as Grievous retrieved the electro-staff to finish off the Jedi. However, Kenobi kept the Force as a resource. So, after drawing the cyborg's blaster into his hand, he killed the general”
Star Wars: The Dark Side (French) (2018):
Immune to the Force, General Grievous compensated for his lack of supernatural powers with cybernetic enhancements that made him a formidable opponent for any Jedi he encountered. In command of the Separatist forces, the cyborg Kaleesh had predilection for hunting Jedi Generals, using his tactical finesse to board and capture their ships. When Grievous stormed the Steadfast, the flagship of Jedi General Eeth Koth, he had devised a plan to defeat a Jedi and his battle clones: he deployed an assault squad composed of commando droids and MagnaGuards. Koth was taken prisoner and used to taunt the Jedi Council. Grievous became such a danger that the Council sent three of its finest Jedi—Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Adi Gallia—to free Koth and attempt to capture Grievous with the help of clones. During the Battle of Saleucami, countless clones and Republic ships were sacrificed in an attempt to capture the cyborg general, but no avail.
“Tyranus’s successes can in part be attributed to his talent for recruiting ruthless leaders and fearsome apprentices whom he then pushed to the limits of their abilities. His most prominent subordinates include General Grievous, Supreme Commander of the Separatist Droid Army, and the slayer Asajj Ventress. Tyranus trained Grievous, a Kaleesh cyborg, in the art of lightsaber combat. Grievous defeated many Jedi, in military confrontation or duels. When the general fell short of the Sith’s expectations, having lost a few campaigns, Tyranus lured Jedi-led clone forces to Grievous’s stronghold and disabled his MagnaGuards as punishment. Grievous barely survived, but he understood the price to pay if he failed the Sith again. Under the cyborg’s command, the Separatist Droid Army sowed destruction in its wake. In so doing, it kept the Jedi Order busy and concealed from it the Sith machinations unfolding right under its nose, on Coruscant.”
“It was for this reason that the Sith enlisted acolytes with special abilities coupled with a fierce hatred of the Jedi, such as General Grievous and Asajj Ventress. Grievous had already proven his talents as a warlord on his home planet of Kalee: he hated politics but dreamed of being at the head of the greatest military force in the galaxy. A brilliant tactician, Grievous could not best a Jedi in a duel: that is why he accepted cybernetic enhancements to increase his combat abilities tenfold. The cyborg general led the Separatists’ droid army, which allowed him to engage in direct confrontations with the Jedi he hated so much.”
“Similarly, Asajj Ventress did not hold the Jedi Order dear to her heart, as she felt it had abandoned Ky Narec, the Jedi who had found her on the planet Rattatak and trained her in the use of the Force. His death sparked a rage that turned her to the dark side. Under Count Dooku’s leadership, Ventress led numerous assassination and intelligence operations, but she also led droid units. Together, Grievous and Ventress eliminated many Jedi.”
“General Grievous’ campaign against the Republic challenged the very nature of the Jedi Order. Faced with his brutal and success tactics, the Jedi were forced to resort to commanding an army of clones, choosing instead to rely on technological advances. Caught in the fog of war, which was reinforced by the disappearance of their comrades from the Temple, the Jedi Council failed to fully analyze the ethical and moral questions raised by their transformation into generals and warriors. Much like the early Sith, The Jedi began to use the Force to win battles. Several members of the Jedi Council warned the Order, but the threat posed the Separatists’ cyborg leader distracted them from the deep thinking that was one of their pillars.”
“Many have been caught in the clutches of the dark side’s geniuses. Queen Amidala of Naboo was politically mentored by Sheev Palpatine, who used her youthful idealism to his advantage during the Trade Federation-Naboo crisis. General Grievous’s frenzied desire to improve his fighting skills led him to accept cybernetic implants recommended by the Sith, which turned more machine than Kaleesh. But it was the fallen Jedi who proved most destructive during the Republic’s implosion. More recently, Ben Solo’s descent into Luke Skywalker’s fledgling Jedi training temple suggests that vigilance is still required.”
“In the control, Grievous was repaired by his medical droid EV-A4-D. His lair contained many spare parts, and he had the advantage of being able to afford to lose a limb or two in combat: it could slow him down, but not stop him. However, Grievous' conversion into a cyborg had not been perfect, as evidenced by his constant coughing. This information was stored by the Sith for possible future conversions: each of the repairs it underwent improved their knowledge on the use of technology against their enemies.”
“In the end, Fisto’s instincts proved correct. After losing part of their commando team, Vebb, Fisto, and Fil - the Clone Commander - confronted Grievous’ roggwart Gor. The monster was slain, but Fil died, which fueled a sense of vengeance in Vebb. When the Jedi found Grievous in the control room, Vebb lost his patience. Ignoring Fisto’s plea for caution, he attacked too vigorously, allowing Grievous to separate his two opponents. Vebb destroyed the MagnaGuards, but Grievous killed him. Fisto narrowly escaped in his fighter and returned to Coruscant, where he was able to share the coordinates of the general’s lair. Grievous then reported to Dooku, announcing that he had defeated the Jedi. Tyranus was impressed, at least until he learned that the Jedi Master had managed to escape.”
“This fight confirmed Grievous’ powers, as he had managed to defeat a Jedi in a duel, but it also confirmed the flaws that had appeared in the Jedi Order since the beginning of the Clone Wars. Vebb had not fallen to the dark side, but his stubbornness in relying on the Force instead of wisdom paved the way to the temptations of darkness.”
Deprived of their identity and renamed with a number corresponding to their entry into the ranks, the Brothers and Sisters of the Inquisitorius perverted what the Jedi stood for, using a method totally different from that of Grievous.
“Elated by the glory gained in battle, Grievous placed the utmost importance on warfare throughout his life. He had cyborg implants added to enhance his combat abilities.”
“Since childhood, Grievous idolized the warlords of his homeworld of Kalee: he seen them return from their expeditions with the spoils of war stolen from the peoples they had conquered. He experienced a meteoric rise to the rank of warlord, then threw himself into space conquests. Grievous quickly realized that the Jedi were nearly unbeatable in duels because of their supernatural abilities and use of the Force, and developed a fierce hatred for them. The Sith, who were conducting research on technologically enhanced beings, made him an offer he couldn't refuse.”
“Grievous fled in his fighter just as the supply ship exploded, having once again failed in a mission entrusted to him by his ruthless superior.”
The latter ordered his battle droids to let him deal with Kenobi alone, to wash away the humiliation of their previous encounter and prove his worth to Sidious.
Drawing on the expertise of their previous duels, Kenobi quickly cut off two of the cyborg's four arms.
Star Wars: Insider #188 (Mar 20, 2019):
“After Dooku’s death, Grievous took over his position and moved Separatist Council from Utapau to Mustafar at Darth Sidious’ behest. The over-confident cyborg engaged with Kenobi for what would be the final time, as the duel ended with Grievous’ demise”
“A sharp military strategist and dangerous fighter trained by Count Dooku in the ways of Jedi combat, Grievous is all the more formidable because of his cybernetic enhancements. He’s not Force-sensitive, but with his claw-like limbs and graceful articulation, he’s more than agile enough to wield lightsabers with precision. A Kaleesh warrior who was critically wounded, Grievous voluntarily gave himself over to mechanical modifications; his brain, heart, lung, spinal cord, and haunting golden eyes are the only organic remnants of his body”
“Dooku found Grievous to be a successful leader because the cyborg looked at the big picture; the general executed high-handed plans like using listening posts to ambush Republic fleets and attempting to invade Kamino to stop clone production”
Rise of the Separatists (May 9, 2019):
(#1)
"Even more fearsome, General Grievous a Kaleesh cyborg has a particular enmity against the Jedi, collecting lightsabers from defeated opponents. The general learned warfare and battle tactics in his homeworld’s war against the Yam'rii from Huk. At that time, he also developed a personal vendetta against the Galactic Republic for its aid to the Yam’rii. A brilliant tactician, Grievous favors quick skirmishes and constant retreats, continually frustrating Republic commanders seeking his capture or death. Grievous takes a direct role in the fighting, often leading his droid forces from the front in a terrifying display of lightsaber prowess and of the strength and resilience of his mechanical body”
“Unknown to most, Dathomirian Asajj Ventress serves as apprentice and personal assassin for Count Dooku. Whereas Trench, Grievous, and their fellow commanders handle the broader campaign objectives, Ventress uses subterfuge, bribery, theft, and targeted killing to accomplish her subtler goals. She served as diplomat and extortionist to get Toydaria to join the Separatists, rescued Nute Gunray from a Republic prison ship, and joined the attack on Kamino in an attempt to steal the clone data and sabotage the Republic's ability to produce new soldiers. Sometimes acting to help the Separatists win battles, she often has her own agenda, dictated by her Sith Master”
“The High regards Master Kenobi as an ideal Jedi”
“General Grievous plans and executes a daring attack on Kamino in order to destroy the clone growth tanks and sabotage the Republic’s ability to produce reinforcements. Beforehand, the Republic intercepts an encrypted message regarding the attack ― if it had not, the war might have ended only a year into the conflict. Nonetheless, Grievous’s assault proves two things, any planet in the Republic is vulnerable, and the Republic has intelligence leaks”
“While Head of State, Dooku determines overall military strategy, General Grievous manages the logistics and tactics of the droid army, supervised by Dooku’s agents. Numerous capable admirals and generals drawn from the ranks of member worlds serve under Grievous”
“General Kleeve a male Devaronian memorable for his cybernetic eye, Kleeve is a prominent Separatist leader under General Grievous. While he serves as a battlefield commander in countless battles, his true gift is in dealing with bounty hunters and mercenaries to achieve his objectives in unorthodox ways”
“Previously a warrior of Kalee, Grievous chose to undergo the transformation into a four-armed cyborg monstrosity. Although he is not Force-Sensitive, Grievous simultaneously wields several lightsabers in battle with lethal effectiveness, thanks to his skill and the strength and agility of his mechanical body. Grievous is a major force throughout the conflict, both as a strategic mind and as a battlefield nightmare. He prefers the front lines, flanked by IG-100 MagnaGuards, challenging Jedi Generals in hopes of adding their lightsabers to his collection. Between battles, Grievous rests within an isolated fortress on Vassek 3 with his pet roggwart, Gor”
“Cyborg (does not need to breathe, eat, or drink and survive in vacuum and underwater; immune to poisons and toxins)”
“General Grievous's mobile ground forces consist of B-series battle droids, existing planetary defense forces often continue to serve as the front line of defense for their respective planets. Corporate security defenses also often provide support for their Separatist allies. Factional forces also deploy on special missions personally led by Separatist Council members or their trusted compatriots”
“OC-9 homing spider droids deploy as heavy armor and siege weapons, while converted Spelunker probe droids provide reconnaissance and sabotage, Grievous often conscripts Commerce Guild units for action on rocky worlds or in urban settings”
“A calculating Munn financier-turned-admiral, Pors Tornith has strong ties to the InterGalactic Banking Clan. Though he is arrogant, Tornith’s confidence is well-founded given his consistent track record of victories. He has a strong affectation for dianogan tea, which stains his teeth a garish purple”
“The Skakoans also conduct experimental mutations to transform peaceful naive like those of Nalvaan into mindless cyborg monstrosities”
Collapse of the Republic (Jun 28, 2019):
“From the early days of the Clone Wars, the Separatists and Republic have for control of Felucia and the nearby trade route. The first victory was the Separatist’, when their blockade of the planet and vast numbers of droid troops kept Republic forces at bay early in the war”
“During the war, the Separatists begin construction of an outpost on the planet, intending to keep a droid presence there. The Republic forces cannot let the enemy gain this foothold in the sector, and the 104th Battalion is sent to engage the droids on the surface and destroy the outpost. Under the command of Jedi Plo Koon, Anakin Skywalker, and Ahsoka Tano, and with the assistance of clone tank divisions, the 104th battles its way deep into enemy territory, hoping to break the Separatists’ hold on Felucia.
“While Count Dooku oversees entire Confederacy, including military operations, General Grievous performs much of the day-to-day management of the war”
“The Droid Commanders allow General Grievous to exert finer control over his forces, eliminating unapproved thoughts and ideas of underlings with inferior strategic prowess. Only a select few genius sentients, like Admiral Trench, remain in command of offensive operations”
“Conversely, defensive operations are overwhelmingly left to local forces, which are often organic. Letting the locals defend and fortify their own worlds and hyperspace route leaves Grievous free to focus on attacking the Republic”
“After years of war, the Republic launches the Outer Rim Sieges, a military campaign to blockade several key Separatist worlds in that region, in hopes of forcing a surrender. The attacks are effective in cutting off the homeworlds of the Separatist Council, limiting vital resources and creating political pressure to negotiate an end to the blockade”
“The Separatists suffer from a structural geographic weakness regarding their territorial borders. They are unable to use the Hydian Way to cut through the Republic’s Core Worlds to reinforce worlds across the galaxy, and the Hutts control the more circuitous Triellus Trade Route, making it very difficult for the Confederacy to move troops and supplies between their spinward and Trailing territories. This leaves the Separatists especially vulnerable to the Republic’s coordinated series of sieges and drains the Separatist Council of its will to fight”
“In response, Grievous masses his forces for a strike at the heart of the Core. He hopes such an attack might prompt the recall of Republic forces participating in the Outer Rim Sieges, lifting the blockades, or at least making them porous. It is a daring gambit, that, succeed or fail, could herald the end of the war”
“Reports of the unexpected death of secretive Jedi Master Tu-Anh bring Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker to Utapau. Their efforts lead them to Amani Villages and a Sugi arms dealer scheme to sell weapons to the Separatists. The Jedi soon discover the real prize is an enormous kyber crystal, which they seize. The Sugi pursue the pair, but Separatist forces intercept the Jedi as they reach the port. The Separatists regain the crystal and move it to General Grievous’s ship. The Jedi board the ship and overload the crystal before leaving, after which the crystal destroys itself and the ship with it”
“Guild hunters have access to numerous high-value bounties on Separatists like Dooku, Ventress, Grievous, and members of the Separatist Council”
“Campaigns set during the latter days of the Clone Wars should reflect this aspect of the conflict. Any time a Separatist hero falls, a replacement step forward. After Kenobi defeats Darth Maul, Palpatine takes Count Dooku as a Sith apprentice. Later, Asajj Ventress and Savage Opress are candidates for this role, even though Anakin ultimately replaces Dooku. General Grievous is another asset available to fulfill a critical role within the CIS hierarchy, but certainly Darth Sidious has replacements available for him as well”
Build Your Own X-Wing 47 (Jul, 2019):
“Although he was called ‘General’, Grievous was Supreme Commander of the Separatist droid army that fought the Grand Army of the Republic throughout the Clone Wars. Flying to crisis point after crisis point, Grievous was a symbol of terror across the galaxy, whether setting his armies against entire worlds, or engaging enemies in close-up and deadly combat”
“Ruthless, unfeeling and with lightning-fast reflexes, Grievous was a deadly foe with any form of weapon or fighting vehicle”
“Although he had use of his own personal starfighter, Grievous was more often seen as commander of a capital-class vessel. Early in the Clone Wars, he was given the Malevolence - an enormous Subjugator-class cruiser armed with a pair of giant ion cannon. For weeks, Grievous tore through Republic shipping, destroying cargo vessels and their escorts. A single shot from the ion cannon was enough to knock out entire fleet groups sent to discover the fate of supplies vital to the Republic war effort”
“Grievous maintained the mystery of this new Separatist vessel by leaving no witness alive. His policy was to destroy every crippled ship utterly, mopping up any escape pods or lone survivors clinging to life in the wreckage”
Spectre of the Past:
“Once an infamous warlord on his homeworld of Kalee, Grievous was horrifically injured in an accident. The Kaleesh warrior agreed to life-saving surgery offered by Separatist leader Count Dooku. He became a fearsome cyborg killer with the skill, strength and speed to rival even a Jedi Master. With arms that could split in two, he was trained by Dooku to wield up to four lightsabers at once. His cybernetically enhanced reaction speed meant Grievous quickly collected a considerable number of lightsabers from the Jedi he killed”
“Grievous’s lightsaber ability was greater than that of Jedi Master Kit Fisto, who was lucky to escape alive”
“The general was always supremely confident of his strength, both personal and in the overwhelming forces under his command (even if he did despise battle droids). However, this overconfidence would prove to be a vulnerability over and over again”
“Early in the Clone Wars, Grievous used the Malevolence as his flagship. Hundreds of battle droids under his command crewed the ship and directed operations from the bridge, but the general had little respect for them”
“All that remained of Grievous’ organic form were his eyes, a few internal organs held in a ‘gut sack’ behind armoured ribs, and his brain and spinal column. Even his brain was given behavioral conditioning to increase his natural aggression”
“Not all of General Grievous’ ambushes went so badly. When Jedi Master Adi Gallia returned from a mercy mission on Aleen, her cruiser was attacked by the Separatist cyborg, whose Providence-class dreadnaught was accompanied by two Munificent-class cruisers ― a grouping that was more than a match for a single Republic Star Destroyer. The result was that Master Gallia was captured. General Grievous himself was ambushed, however, as Jedi Master Plo Koon led no less than five Republic Star Destroyers in an ambush of his own. He also led the rescue party that recovered Adi Gallia and escaped”
“It was one of Grievous’s weakness that he failed to recognise how superior his enhanced cyborg abilities were to the slowed-minded droids in his command”
“Ambushed on her return from the planet Aleen, Adi Gallia was bested by General Grievous, who took the Jedi Master prisoner”
Build Your Own X-Wing 47 (German):
“The great warlord Kaleesh is seriously injured in an accident. When he regains consciousness in a bacta tank, he realizes that he has been almost completely gutted and disfigured by surgical FX droids. He becomes a cyborg and, as Grievous, takes command of the largest droid army in the galaxy”
Star Wars Day-at-a-Time Calendar 2020 (Jul 17, 2019):
“MagnaGuards are the robotic bodyguards assigned to feared Jedi hunter General Grievous, and they share his fearsome reputation. Each MagnaGuards is deadly at close-quarters fighting, using its two-handed electrostaff to stun or kill attackers. The MagnaGuards that work with Grievous wear cloaks, a nod to the traditions of the general’s homeworld”
“Depa Bilaba of Chalacta serves on the Jedi High Council in the final years of the Republic and as a general during the Clone Wars. Respected by her fellow Jedi as a wise and spiritual voice, she overcomes physical and psychological wounds suffered in battle against General Grievous’ forces and goes on to train a Padawan of her own”
The Skywalker Saga (Oct 1, 2019):
“The cyborg was feared throughout the galaxy for his hunting prowess and strategic genius, but transforming his body into a fighting machine had left his organic anatomy weak inside his armor”
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (Nov 15, 2019):
“I was only a child when they attacked. An armored warrior brandishing this... Descended upon us... And cut down my people. My sisters. Until I was left alone. With the dead.” ―Merrin recounting her perspective of the Battle of Dathomir
“As Cal and BD moved into the Tomb of Kujet, they came upon Merrin. This time, however, she was willing to talk. Cal learned that she might be the only survivor of the Nightsisters massacre carried out by General Grievous during the Clone Wars”
“Their Civilization was destroyed at the behest of a vengeful Count Dooku after Asajj Ventress and her sisters attempted to assassinate him”
Star Wars Use the Force!: Discover what it takes to be a Jedi (May 28, 2020):
“Wielding four lightsabers at once isn't practical― it's simply showing off. But Obi-Wan keeps his cool and aims wisely at Grievous's vulnerable wrists: then only two blades are left and Obi-Wan emerges victorious”
Star Wars Day-at-a-Time Calendar 2021 (Sept 1, 2020):
“Assigned to key Separatist leaders, such as the deadly Jedi hunter General Grievous, these humanoid droid bodyguards share his intimidating reputation. Devastating at malee range, MagnaGuards use their two-handed electrostaffs to stun, or kill, foes”
“The personal craft of General Grievous, the Soulless One is a modified Belbullab-22 starfighter that boasts impressive firepower, a well-armored shield generator, and long-rang scanners. Despite the ship’s strengths, however, Grievous often uses it to escape danger rather than to fly into battle”
The Star Wars Book (Oct 1, 2020):
“Despite droids improving the lives of billions of people, some still hold deep resentment toward them. While the reasons for such distrust are wide-ranging, many blame droids for the destruction and suffering of the Clone Wars. Memories of droid invasions linger in the minds of survivors, who swear off the use of droids entirely. After General Grievous' ravaging of his homeworld during the Separatist crisis, survivor Ralakili establishes a droid fighting ring on Vandor, dedicating his life to watching droids destroy each other. Over time, the emotional scars fade, and the galaxy grows more accepting, but droids rarely receive the same respect given to living beings”
“This droid General Grievous, born a Kaleesh, is an example of a being who chooses to undergo almost a complete replacement of their body. His transformation occurs over an extended period, with each enhancement adding to the last until only his vital organs remain”
“Over the years, Maul's obsession becomes two-fold. He longs for vengeance against Obi-Wan Kenobi for the injuries that ended his path as a Sith Lord. Second, he wishes to topple Darth Sidious. He knows to not underestimate either nemesis, so scours worlds such as Malachor and Dathomir to give him the advantage he needs. Maul even coerces young Jedi initiate Ezra Bridger into helping him. With a Sith holocron and a Jedi holocron combined, Ezra and Maul are able to peer into the Force to find answers. A fleeting glimpse of a world with twin suns eventually draws both Ezra and Maul to Tatooine, where Obi-Wan Kenobi lives in hiding. Ezra rushes to warn Kenobi, but the old Jedi knows what hunts him. Kenobi and Maul square off once more, and Kenobi quickly dispatches Maul. Maul's desire for vengeance finally sated, Kenobi cradles his old enemy's body in death, giving him at least the peace of mind that there will someday come”
“After Ventress' attempts on his life, Count Dooku orders General Grievous to lead a battle droid army to Dathomir and exterminate the Nightsisters. Faced with invasion, Talzin calls upon the aid of an elder, Old Daka, who resurrects fallen Nightsisters to fight as zombies and bolster their ranks. While the Nightsisters fight fiercely against the droids, even an undead legion is not enough to repel the onslaught, and there are few survivors. Talzin escapes, but only temporarily. In her final battle, now against Sidious, Grievous, and Dooku, she sacrifices herself to save her son Maul. As Grievous strikes her down, the magicks rush out of her body once and for all”
“A survivor of Grievous' massacre is the Nightsister Merrin. Just a child at the time, she grows up vowing to take vengeance for her sisters' deaths. She matures into a powerful witch with excellent control of magicks and commands the Nightbrothers. She finds a curious understanding with Jedi Cal Kestis, also a young survivor of the war. After aiding him in his fight against fallen Jedi Taron Malicos, Merrin joins the crew of the Mantis on their mission to secure the future of the Jedi in hopes of leaving her unhappy life on Dathomir behind”
“Military strategy is overseen by Count Dooku, who recruits the vicious, experienced General Grievous to lead the droid army”
“Of all fearsome combatants of the Clone Wars, perhaps none strikes terror into the hearts of Republic soldiers quite like General Grievous, the cunning and ruthless military leader of the Separatist droid army, and dedicated hunter of Jedi Knights”
“This Kaleesh warlord gradually trades his biological parts for upgraded mechanical ones until only his original vital organs, brain, and eyes remain. These augmentations turn an already capable warrior into a nearly unstoppable killing machine on the battlefield, giving him capabilities beyond those of a normal soldier”
“Though he does not use the Force, Grievous’ heightened senses, the precision of his mechanical limbs, and the training he receives from Sith Lord Count Dooku allow him to employ lightsabers in combat. His two arms can split into four, so the general can use up to four sabers at once”
“However, his abilities are not just physical. Behind Grievous’ mask lies one of the shrewdest military strategists of the era ― one who not afraid to retreat should the odd turn against him. The general regularly avoids capture by the Republic, slipping away to fight another day”
“While Count Dooku deals with matters of state for the Confederacy of Independent System, General Grievous focuses on matters of military execution. His motivations seem purely personal, whether it be pride in leading the largest droid army the galaxy has ever seen or his lust for killing Jedi”
“He regularly commands naval engagements from his flagship dreadnought, the Invisible Hand, but his combat, experience and brutality shine in hand-in-hand combat. He often leads from the front lines, using his enhanced physical capabilities to attack enemy troops”
“Grievous is often displeased with the droid army’s failure to meet his exacting standards, and he is not afraid to demonstrate his frustration through cruel physical punishment”
“Throughout the Clone Wars, the wise and tactical Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi is a frequently nemesis of General Grievous. The two cross sabers multiple times, including a duel aboard Grievous’ superweapon battle cruiser, the Malevolence; aboard the cruiser Steadfast in the Saleucami system; on Kenobi’s command ship near Florrum; and above Utapau near the end of the war”
“Though the general comes close to defeating Kenobi multiple times, in the end it is the Jedi who gets the best of the Separatist on Utapau. Following a dramatic chase through Pau City, Kenobi uses Grievous’ own blaster against him in their final duel, landing a precise shot to the general’s vital organs—what little remains of Grievous’ original body eventually proves to be his undoing”
“Grievous believes himself to be a superior warrior to all Jedi and seeks to prove himself in combat. By the end of the war, he is rumored to have captured or killed dozens of Jedi, including Jedi Master Neebo and the newly knighted Nahdar Vebb. The Jedi consider such devious tactics to be cowardly, but Grievous holds no such notions of honor. Instead, he takes pride in his growing collection of war trophies: the lightsaber blades of his defeated foes and the braids of Padawans struck down before their prime. After years of seemingly unstoppable of terror, the general’s murderous streak come to an end when Darth Sidious betrays his hiding spot on Utapau to the Jedi, wanting to tie up a loose end”
“His vicious streak extends beyond the Jedi, as he personally slays Gungan General Tarpals on Naboo, and massacres the Nightsisters of Dathomir. There, he shows no mercy as he wipes out an entire clan of witches, with only a couple of Nightsisters surviving”
“General Grievous uses his agile fleets to his advantage throughout the war, disrupting the Republic with attacks on planets such as Falleen and Dorin. Unable to calculate where the droid general will strike next, the Republic becomes distracted and leaves previously conquered worlds open to Separatist control”
Bust Collection 68 (Oct 27, 2020):
Duel to the Death on Utapau:
“After their defeat at the Battle of Coruscant, the Separatist forces led by General Grievous, who had become the leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems with the death of Count Dooku, took refuge on the planet to regroup. It was a temporary stop, no more, to regain their strength and continue the war effort, although they believed that the conflict was drawing to an end”
“Although unaware of his superior’s true plans, Grievous was ordered by Darth Sidious to transfer the Separatist Council from Utapau to Mustafar, and wait for further orders. This seemed to reassure the restless Council members, especially the cowardly Nute Gunray, who doubted the new Separatist leader’s ability to keep them safe. The Republic believed that, after Dooku’s death, the demise of Grievous could spell the end of the Clone Wars. So, the intelligence reported Grievous’ position and transmitted it to the Republic, the Jedi Council sent Master Obi-Wan Kenobi to Utapau (ignoring Supreme Chancellor Palpatine’s suggestion to send Anakin Skywalker), to find out if the rumours were true and try to stop Grievous at all costs”
“The cyborg used four lightsabers he had collected from the bodies of four Jedi he had killed, but despite the general’s enhanced abilities, the Jedi faced him with just one lightsaber. Grievous used a spectacular combat move, spinning his arms and lightsabers to create a deadly laser-saw effect, but Kenobi fought with courage and was able to sever two of his enemy’s mechanical limbs. With that, the fight became more even”
“At the point, the Republic’s 212th Battalion, led by Commander Cody, descended on the Utapaun capital, catching the Separatist forces by surprise. While the troopers took on the battle droids, Grievous continued the duel despite the surrounding chaos”
“However, Kenobi counterattacked by using the Force to throw the general against the ceiling, disarming him as he fell back to the ground. Confident that the confusion of battle would facilitate his escape, Grievous scuttled away like a spider and jumped onto his customized TSMEU-6 wheel bike, leaving his hated adversary behind”
“Kenobi attacked the cyborg with the electrostaff, while the Separatist leader counterattacked with his mechanical limbs. Just as the Jedi seemed about to lose the fight, he was able to pry open the protection over the cyborg’s few living internal organs. As Grievous reared to strike, Kenobi pulled his foe’s blaster towards him using the Force. Kenobi shot Grievous in his vulnerable organic sac, thus causing his death as the living matter exploded”
Lightsabers and Jedi Equipment (Nov 27, 2020):
Always on the Move:
“Niman was also useful against multiple opponents - or the many lightsabers wielded by General Grievous. In addition, as Grievous was usually accompanied by MagnaGuards carrying electrostaff, Ahsoka was drilled in dealing with those- despite her early success at defeating a clutch of guards on Tatooine”
Evolving:
“The intense demands of the Clone Wars, and Tano’s desire to remain unpredictable in the face of regular duels with the likes of Ventress and even Grievous, led to her adopting the short lightsabers, or ‘shoto,’ around the second year of the war”
“The curved-hilted, crimson-bladed twin lightsabers Asajj Ventress was most associated with were given to her by Darth Tyranus, the Sith alter-ego of Count Dooku. Ironically, they had come from Dooku’s former Padawan, a Jedi who had herself fallen to the dark side, and who he had destroyed when she became inconvenient”
The Rebels and Malachor:
“Maul continued to use his lightsaber for a time while he led the Crimson Dawn organization, but, when he set out on the search for an ancient and legendary Sith weapon, he chose to use discretion as his primary tactic. He began to hide under a hooded cloak that concealed his striking appearance and also switched weapons, using a double-bladed lightsaber that he decided to disguise as a staff, adding a piece of wood”
“Maul's investigations led him to the planet Malachor, in whose Sith temple would be the powerful weapon he was looking for. Unfortunately, his ship crashed and Maul was trapped for years on the planet, until, a few years before the Battle of Yavin, an Inquisitor reached Malachor on his trail. Maul then made contact with the young Padawn Ezra Bridger, whom he manipulated in order to retrieve the Sith holocron that was the key to the planet’s hidden weapon on the planet. Even so, Maul's plans did not go as planned and he had to flee Malachor in a hurry upon Darth Vader's arrival on the planet”
Battling to the End:
“While Dooku only fought occasionally with his lightsaber during the Clone Wars, he was never fully bested. He achieved the near impossible by wounding Master Yoda during a fight on Vjun, before making a tactical withdrawal”
Mon Calamari:
“Fisto's last Padawan, Jedi Nahdar Vebb, had a blue lightsaber that also used the dual crystal ignition system”
“Sadly, despite having fought from the outset of the Clone Wars on Geonosis through to defending Coruscant itself when General Grievous attacked in the last weeks of the war, Master Kit Fisto was killed by Darth Sidious.
“Kit Fisto was adept as a fighter to cross lightsabers with General Grievous and survive”
Last Weapon:
“The weapon saw General Kenobi through the Clone Wars, where he crossed blades with the likes of Count Dooku, Asajj Ventress, and General Grievous. When the rise of the Empire and the Jedi Purge forced him into hiding, he took the saber with him and used it again very scarcely in the following years, such as the time when he faced and killed Darth Maul years after their first meeting. Kenobi wielded it for the last time against Darth Vader on the Death Star”
Republic, Rebel, and Resistance Starfighters (2020):
The Blade of Dorin:
“When the Eta-2 Aetis-class interceptor was introduced at the end of the war, Jedi Master Plo Koon refused to upgrade ships. His fighter, the Blade of Dorin, was one he was very used to, and had been a gift from Anakin Skywalker. Koon had no desire to give up a fighter he was well used to. The Kel Dor Master had used it in the decisive attack against General Grievous's flagship, the Malevolence, in the early months of the Clone Wars”
A Body Blow:
“All that said, the Y-wing was not at its best in a full-on dogfight, as was sadly demonstrated in 20 BBY when General Grievous launched an all-out attack on General Kenobi's fleet in deep space”
Boba Fett and Other Characters of the Underworld (2021):
“Some months later, Ventress led the Separatist forces to conquer the planet Christophsis, a key Republic world”
“Though technically on the same side, there was a far-from-friendly rivalry between Ventress and General Grievous. This suited Count Dooku only too well, and was very much the Sith way”
The Clone Wars Begin (2021):
“General despite himself, he fought against General Grievous, leader of the droid army, and the assassin Asajj Ventress. Even his archenemy, the dark warrior Maul, returned in the last year of the war”
“This former Kaleesh warlord grew more powerful by transforming into a cyborg. Trained by Dooku, he became the Supreme Commander of the Droid Army and a Jedi assassin”
“Coupled with widespread concern over the person of General Grievous, rumors of a colossal new Separatist weapon continued to grow for months. However, it was impossible to know anything for sure, as Grievous made sure that no witnesses were left alive who could communicate any reliable information about the Malevolence. Employing effective ambush tactics, Grievous’s flagship disabled all enemy ship systems with a single shot.”
“War had seen new technology play its part for both the Republic and the Confederacy. But now it turned out that the Separatists were developing a new type of tank on Geonosis. The fact that General Grievous himself had invaded the planet Dorin to draw Republic forces away from Geonosis showed that, despite inconclusive reconnaissance and intelligence, the planet had once again become a priority target”
Invasion Force:
“Three Jedi generals led the attack ― Luminara Unduli, Ki-Adi-Mundi, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. They were soon joined by Anakin Skywalker, whose forces had defeated Grievous at Dorin. However, they encountered impossibly heavy resistance, and were before long found fighting for their lives”
“General Grievous soon overwhelmed Eeth Koth's men, but the Separatist commander chose not to kill the Jedi as he normally would have, but instead took him prisoner and broadcast a message intending him to be intercepted by the Jedi Council. In the statement, he stated that he was going to slowly kill his hostage to inflict the most pain on the Jedi, who would perceive his martyrdom and death through the Force”
“Seeing the transition, the Jedi Council members and clone commanders who had served with Koth reacted as Grievous had hoped: they decided to come immediately to the Jedi Master's rescue”
For his part, Grievous hoped that a rescue mission would be dispatched, knowing that the Jedi had planned a trap. Although both sides were confident that they would emerge victorious, only General Grievous was arrogant enough to ignore his subordinates when they recommended caution”
“General Grievous and his droids marked the clones destined for Eeth Koth's destroyer and closed in on the Jedi Master. Although Koth fought bravely, the cyborg general ended up knocking him out”
Old Friends:
“The Jedi plan was for Obi-Wan to travel to Saleucami with a small fleet group. Once there, he would engage Grievous and send his coordinates back to Anakin Skywalker and Master Gallia, accompanied by a small detachment of clones, would then make a very precise hyperspace jump, discreetly board the General’s ship, and complete the rescue of Eeth Koth”
“The initial part of the plan went well. However, on being greeted by Obi-Wan, Grievous warned his second-in-command, tactical droid TV-94, to expect Anakin Skywalker, who was never far behind his old master”
Dual Duels:
“Using local creatures as mounts, the general and his escort headed for another pod ― even as Kenobi and his troops began a hunt for him. Reaching an intact pod, Grievous was able to call for a rescue, although he barely managed to escape when the shuttle arrived. Eeth Koth had been successfully rescued, but the frustration of failing to achieve a much bigger victory remained”
Failed Assault?
“Jedi General Shaak Ti, was also already on Kamino, with a Republic blockade to face Grievous’ fleet. The space battle went the Republic’s way, and many Separatist ships were destroyed, their debris raining down into the waters around Tipoca City”
“Grievous was quickly on the surface once Asajj Ventress’ assault on the city began as he was determined not to let his rival commander get all the glory. Besides, there were Jedi to kill - including his longtime foe Obi-Wan Kenobi”
“On Raxus, Ahsoka met Mina Bonteri's son Lux, who helped her understand that not all Separatists were like Grievous, and that many had valid reasons for leaving the Republic”
“The Planet Ringo Vinda was an industrial production zone under the control of the Separatists, it was so important that Admiral Trench, one of the best strategists in the CSI, was in charge of its protection”
Emperor Palpatine (2021):
“After involving the Jedi, thanks to the bait of General Grievous and Count Dooku, Palpatine convinced the Jedi Council to dedicate considerable resources to the hunt for Maul”
“Dooku was tasked with uncovering everything he could about Maul’s Shadow Collective, and said as much to his prisoner. In fact, this was a ruse. Maul was rescued by members of the Death Watch, and spirited away to Zanbar. At per Darth Sidious’ orders, Dooku commanded General Grievous to track the former Sith apprentice, and to destroy as many of his forces as possible. The assault on the Shadow Collective base on Zanbar was the first of many attacks designed to drive Maul back and back, stripping away his strength until Talzin was forced to intervene”
The End:
“This, too, was what Sidious wanted. He traveled to Dathomir with Grievous aboard Maul’s former ship, the Scimitar, and launched his attack. Dooku was rescued, adding his strength to his master’s assault on the witch. Talzin, knowing she was truly beaten, threw her son to safety before dying by the twin lightsaber blades of General Grievous. Maul, dismissed as irrelevant by Sidious, escaped. Darth Sidious had won. Now, nothing could prevent his final victory”
All Is Ready:
Darth Sidious was at last ready to make his final move. All that was needed was for the supreme chancellor of the Republic to be kidnapped from the galactic capital, home of the Senate and Jedi Order, Coruscant.
“Coruscant, naturally, remained well defended. Its fleet was reduced somewhat by the need to divert forces to the Outer Rim sieges, but a surprise attack was impossible. The Republic had the Nexus Route coordinates safely locked away, preventing the Separatists from striking directly at the capital. When Darth Sidious presented those same coordinates to General Grievous, however, along with a plan to kidnap the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic, it looked the CIS might pull victory from the jaws of defeat”
The Battle of Coruscant:
“Count Dooku had moved his command post to Grievous' flagship, the Invisible Hand, sometime earlier. This meant that he was on hand to ensure that Grievous did as he was told. While Dooku’s master was never going to be threatened by a creature like the cyborg general, it was better that Sidious’ plan went without a hitch. CIS forces dropped out of hyperspace atop Coruscant's defense fleet and quickly wreaked havoc on the planet. Grievous took advantage of this to cover up the Supreme Chancellor's kidnapping, quickly taking him back to his ship. But, as Sidious had foreseen, the Republic ships prevented the Invisible Hand from leaving, giving Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker time to mount a rescue, while Ahsoka confronted Maul at the siege of Mandalore”
Anakin Skywalker (2021):
“General Grievous posed a serious threat to the Republic and his lightsaber skills made him a serious problem for the Jedi, but Anakin got the better of him during a struggle on board the Separatist flagship”
“It was inevitable that Skywalker would end up facing General Grievous, the cyborg leader of the droid army. The young Jedi was a key player in the destruction of the Malevolence, the cyborg's fearsome flagship”
“Both Skywalker and Tano had a chance to redeem themselves through the Second Battle of Felucia, where Republic forces attempted to retake control of the planet from the Separatists. General Skywalker and his Padawan led the offensive into enemy-held territory, with a large contingent of clone troopers. In retaliation for his advances, General Grievous sent reinforcements to his own checkpoints on Felucia, to attempt to secure the entire system. This included the arrival of a new detachment of battle droids, which became a strategic target for the Republic forces”
Melee and Ranged Weapons (2021):
“The phrik alloy used in some electrostaffs-and also in Darth Sidious's lightsaber-was very light and durable. However, as the reserves of its raw materials were scarce, it was extremely expensive. Baktoid could afford to use that alloy because it had the financial backing of the Trade Federation, its parent company. Still, they only made a few of their staffs out of phriks, as Obi-Wan found out defending himself against Grievous, when the cyborg cut his staff in two”
Created to Fight the Jedi:
“The IG-100 Magnaguards that escorted General Grievous were manufactured by Mechanical Holowan. They were programmed for autonomous self-learning, adapting their own fighting styles through extensive battle training sessions. Darth Sidious knew Grievous hated battle droids, but would accept those he was able to train himself”
Working Together:
“Consequently, they were trained to work as a team in close combat situations, where the most mediocre warriors could accidentally injure their comrades. Grievous himself, however, once boasted to Kenobi that he would never equip his bodyguard with a weapon that could damage him”
Chewbacca and Other Aliens of the Rebellion and the Resistance (2021):
“Ithano wore crimson garments and metal armor, with a mask of a blood red color, inspired by the merciless reptilian Kaleesh species”
Scarif and Other Outer Rim Planets (2021):
“The majority of Pau City’s port facilities, including the larger landing platforms, were based here. Level 10 was where a Separatist core ship docked, unloading General Grievous and his droid forces. Formerly the homes of the Pau’an middle classes and wealthy Utai, it became the base for the Separatist Council before Grievous moved them to Mustafar”
“When the Separatists arrived in Pau City, the Techno Union took over the great hall of the Trade Guild. They converted this space of great cultural importance into an automated factory that expanded occupy the entire building, which was considered a deep grievance by the Separatists. But it was nothing compared to the subsequent abuse meted out by the Empire, eager to exploit Utapau’s abundant resources”
“More than simply his home, the castle was where Grievous kept the majority of his spare parts, his personal surgeon, and even his favorite pet. A cheerless place, it was where Grievous would come to brood over the life he had lost when he was transformed into a cyborg killer”
“The third moon of the remote planet Vassek had been relegated to oblivion due to its lack of interest. Just because of that, it was the perfect location for General Grievous's home”
Corridors of Confusion:
“A small Republic team led by Jedi Master Kit Fisto came to the third moon of Vassek looking for Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray. Instead, they found a trap had been set for them by Count Dooku, looking to test Grievous - to destruction if necessary. On passing through the main door, the group found a long central corridor floored with stone slabs. Although the ornate walls bore many light globs set atop intricate pipe-work, these served only to define the shadows in the deep alcoves that lined the passageway. It was nearly impossible to determine which shadows were doorways and which were simply solid wall. As the team were later to discover, even the ‘solid’ walls could not be trusted, as they could hold the access to secret passageways known only to Grievous and his minions”
“At the end of the main corridor, an archway led into the ‘sanctum overlook’. Across a walkway over a plunging fall, shuttered windows could be opened to reveal a vista of swirling mists and occasionally glimpsed towers of rock. A single throne-like chair dominated the curving room, complete with a communications panel. This was where Fisto and his group found a hologram of Nute Gunray, and were addressed by Count Dooku who explained their predicament”
Spares and Trophies:
“Dooku only hinted at the dangers the Jedi faced. He remotely opened a second door leading off the overlook chamber. Down another, narrower corridor, the team passed statue rooms that celebrated the gory achievements of a mysterious cloaked warrior. At the end of that corridor was a haunting sight. Suspended from the ceiling, lit in an eerie steel blue light, were General Grievous’ many spare parts. Beyond that was Grievous’ grisly trophy room. On lit tables rested lightsaber hilts and Padawan braids taken from the many victims of the deadly cyborg”
“One of Grievous' favorite surprises for any who displeased him was to force them into a large, arena-like corridor. Locked in there, the victims would face a giant, cybernetically-enhanced roggwart called Gor. Grievous had actual affection for the monster, and was furious when Kit Fisto and Nahdar Vebb killed it”
Naval Weapons and Equipment (2021):
Deactivation:
“Early in the Clone Wars, the Republic suffered heavy losses because of the Malevolence. This subjugator-class heavy cruiser from the Confederacy of Independent Systems was armed with two gigantic T2 ion pulse cannons that could hurl a massive burst of ion energy toward an enemy fleet. The Malevolence was ultimately destroyed by Jedi Generals Skywalker and Kenobi with help from Senator Amidala and the Republic’s Shadow Squadron”
Darth Maul and Other Dark Side Follower (2021):
Although it sometimes seemed that Dooku was everywhere, he only became personally involved in the war when it was crucial or unavoidable by the nature of the plan at hand. Most of the time, Dooku acted just like his master... through chosen agents.
Ventress:
“Dooku required an acolyte of his own, an apprentice of sorts. While he had a hand in the creation of Grievous as a cyborg, and trained him in lightsaber combat, Grievous was already allied with other members of the Confederacy of Independent Systems”
“Hearing rumors of a warrior woman on Rattatak who fought with two lightsabers, Dooku felt she could be an ideal candidate”
“Dooku had created the MagnaGuard for Grievous. The General erased the droids' original combat programming and retrained them. The result was so impressive that even Dooku almost used them as bodyguards”
“Such failures were irritating, but they tied up of the Republic resources and so were never entirely without value. For example, when General Grievous lost his powerful command ship, the Malevolence, Dooku took comfort in the fact that the vessel had hounded the Republic fleets for months and disrupted merchant shipping. There remained a fear in the general population of what would happen next, which drove more systems to ally with the Separatists. Lastly, the loss of the Malevolence kept the arrogant Grievous in check”
Although the failures of General Grievous and Asajj Ventress were never serious enough to undermine Darth Sidious' plans, there were times when both agents needed reminded that they were not irreplaceable.
“Dooku transferred his Shadow Feed operations to Grievous' flagship, the Invisible Hand. He was an integral part of Palpatine's plan when the Nexus Route hyperspace corridor brought Grievous to Coruscant”
“Also shrouded in mystery is the Inquisitor who traveled to Dathomir to train the native Jerserra in secret, until the warrior killed her with her own weapon and adopt a mercenary life”
The Star Wars Book of Monsters, Ooze, and Slime (2021):
“Why does General Grievous cough? Some say he’s still getting used to his metal cyborg body. Others say his cowardly ways produce a nervous tic. However, it could just be that he has the dreaded curse of seasonal allergies!”
“What is in that bag on his chest it’s his vital organs! They are some of the few non-metal parts left of him. Gross!”
Battle Droids and Other War Droids (2021):
New Model Army:
“As droid commanders were expected to report the failures of their troops to the likes of Asajj Ventress or General Grievous, they often ended up destroying them in frustration. When they saw a plan had failed, the droid commanders, following their programming, announced its failure and requested new orders. Distracting someone with a lightsaber in a bad mood, right after they had suffered a humiliating defeat, never ended well for the battle droid in question”
“These pilots contribute to the separatist war effort for the rest of the conflict. Their superior capacity to other battle droids meant they also deployed greater independence in terms attitude toward their superior of them. For instance, one of them showed their disagreement with General Grievous on one occasion when he decided to launch all the fighters to combat the Jedi General, Anakin Skywalker”
“However, when the Senate was locked in a debate that Count Dooku and the Separatists wished to resolve in a specific way, General Grievous had a unit of droids designed specifically for a single mission”
Considering that General Grievous hated battle droids with a passion. As a result, his mechanized MagnaGuards had to be impressively tough to survive their master’s demands.
“The Kaleesh Warlord Qymaen jai Sheelal, who became Grievous, was always accompanied by his elite Izvoshra bodyguards. But when he became an enforcer for the InterGalactic Banking Clan, they refuse Grievous’s demand that he have his loyal Izvoshra and commissioned for him a new type of guard ― the IG-100 MagnaGuard”
Death and Rebirth:
“Developed by Holowan Mechanical, the guards' operational parameters were set by Count Dooku, who wanted a droid warrior that would match Grievous's demanding standards. But when the general was reborn as a cyborg commander of the Separatist forces, he promptly slaughtered all the guards present at his ‘resurrection’, out of his anger at being allied to the droids he so hated. He Immediately began making changes to the rest”
“Formerly known as the IG-series 100 self-Motivating Heuristically Programmed Combat Droids, the MagnaGuards were programmed in numerous forms combat, but Grievous immediately ordered the droids’ memories to be blanked of all each knowledge. While Dooku trained Grievous in the Jedi martial arts, the general taught his guards all that he knew. The results were terrifyingly effective. Grievous' training regime was tough on the droids - even the survivor picked up dents and scarring. The cunning general would not allow these ‘injuries’ to be repaired, as the battle-scarred look added to the ominous appearance of the droids”
“Grievous ordered the MagnaGuards to be dressed in Kaleesh cloaks and headgear, in tribute to his original loyal Izvoshra bodyguards”
Deadly Debut:
“The fourth moon of Parein II saw the first real test of the MagnaGuards. Republic forces, led by Jedi General Sannen, were utterly crushed, as Grievous led his troops from the front. Sannen bravely tried to tackle the cyborg directly, but didn’t get the chance to engage him. Instead, he was stabbed through the throat by a MagnaGuard electrostaff”
“It wasn’t long before the MagnaGuards became as feared as their master. Their effectiveness was undoubtedly down to Grievous’ training as well as their weapons. The fearsome droids rarely worked alone. Usually there were two or three, with one or two engaging Jedi foe while the other waited for an opportunity to strike them down”
“Again, this added to the unease and fear Republic forces felt on engaging them. Though the Jedi and the elite clone troops gained in experience, learning tactics and combat forms to deal with the MagnaGuards, their effectiveness forever in doubt. Dooku used Magnaguards as his own personal bodyguards, and when Grievous kidnapped Chancellor Palpatine on Coruscant, he took a large force of MagnaGuards with him to distract any Jedi during his escape”
Veteran Soldiers:
“Throughout the Clone Wars, the MagnaGuards that survived learned from their combat experiences, building on the training Grievous kept up, and becoming veterans in their own right. The droids were incredibly resistant to damage. Though their systems usually shorted out from the damage, additional processing centers and a photoreceptor in their chest meant that the droids could sometimes fight on even after being decapitated: another nasty surprise! However, at the end of the Clone Wars, when the Separatist leaders were killed by Darth Vader, the Emperor ordered the remote deactivation of all MagnaGuards. Their usefulness was at an end”
“Like most of the droid contingents of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the MagnaGuards practically disappeared from the galactic scene with the end of the Clone Wars. It is unknown if they were automatically disabled along with the rest of the Separatist droids during Darth Vader’s mission on Mustafar, or if they were individually eliminated later on. But, although most of the units were destroyed or withdrawn from circulation, some were acquired by collectors, or reconditioned for new purposes. In both cases, however, they were often used discreetly to avoid unnecessarily attracting the attention of the Empire”
“Their actions were often cruel and brutal. Deep down, they were only loyal to the supreme commanders of the CIS, Count Dooku and General Grievous, so they had no qualms about killing their allies, both droids and organics, if it made it easier for them to win”
The Clone Wars (2021):
Murder
“Calamari king, Yos Kolina, was assassinated. His successor was to be Prince Lee-Char, but his youth and inexperience counted against him. With General Grievous' fleets already in control of much of the surrounding space, the Republic sent Anakin Skywalker and Senator Padme Amidala to try to smooth tensions and ensure Lee-Char's ascension went without any trouble. The Separatists, in turn, sent the bloodthirsty Karkarodon warlord Riff Tamson represent their interests”
“Unknown to the Mon Calamari and the Quarren that Tamson was the one who had assassinated King Kolina. Although Tamson and Dooku had told the Quarren leader, Nossor Ri, that their plan was to establish a long-awaited Quarren king, the crowned one would be Riff, with the mission of adding the planet to the separatist side”
“Since their humiliating defeat at the Battle of Naboo, the Trade Federation and, later, the Separatist armies had long desired to take control of the planet. This time, the plot was led directly by Count Dooku, backed by General Grievous”
“Initially contemptuous of the Gungans, the arrogant Grievous was defeated and captured when General Tarpals gave his life to get close enough to beat the cyborg commander”
“Jar Jar, still as Lyonie, met the Separatist leader and was horrified to discover it was General Grievous. Padme, relaying messages through Tarpals, suggested the Gungan quietly deactivate the droid army and then capture the isolated Grievous. Meanwhile, Anakin ran into Dooku, after the count had killed Rish Loo, who was now of no use to him. Dooku and his MagnaGuards quickly captured the Jedi”
“Jar Jar delayed Grievous as long as possible, but the cyborg eventually lost patience, pursuing a terrified Binks out of his shuttle to find himself surrounded. Contemptuously battling aside Gungan warriors, Grievous was eventually subdued when General Tarpals sacrificed himself to get close enough to shock Grievous with a close-range thrust of an electropole.
“When Maul sprang his trap, General Grievous was quickly taken prisoner. It was a humiliating defeat for the cyborg”
“Dooku and Grievous were on the verge of victory at Ord Mantell. Suddenly, Maul led the ships of the Shadow Collective in an all-out assault on the Separatist fleet, quickly boarding Grievous’ flagship and forcing the general to surrender. Maul ordered the general to deactivate the droid troops on Ord Mantell, allowing the surviving Shadow Collective soldiers to capture Count Dooku”
At the Close of the Clone Wars
“The Battle of Anaxes was one of the most important nails in the coffin of the Confederacy of Independent Systems’ military strategy. But General Grievous' leadership of the Separatist Army had forced the deployment of numerous Jedi generals all around the Outer Rim and the vast majority of fronts remained open”
Mace Windu and Other Users of the Force (2021):
Ventress
“Eary in the conflict, Unduli’s fleet had clashed with one coming to the aid of General Grievous’ command ship Malevolence at Kalilda Shoals. Then, only a few months after that, she would duel with the general himself on Nadiem in the Outer Rim. However, it was to be the Sith assassin Asajj Ventress who would be the most senior Separatist commander with whom Luminara would most frequently cross blades”
“The two first encountered each other when Master Unduil was sent to escort the captured Separatist leader, Nute Gunray, back to Coruscant. Ventress, for her part, was a member of the rescue mission dispatched to recover or silence Gunray. She and Unduil fought in the heart of the Jedi's own ship. Asajj gained the upper hand, defeating Luminara and escaping. Gunray, too, was spirited away, and Luminara had to admit she had underestimated the assassin. In a return match on Alzoc II, Luminara and Aayla Secura defeated Ventress together, trapping her in an ice cave they caused to collapse”
General Grievous
“Soon after the war started, Kit faced his toughest and most bitter tests. After Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray escaped from Jedi custody, the High Council tracked the Neimoidian to a moon of the planet Vassek and dispatched Fisto to re-capture him. Once on the moon, Fisto was reunited with his former Padawan, Nahdar Vebb, who had recently been made a Jedi Knight, and a small contingent of clone troopers. Upon entering the castle fortress, the Republic forces realized they had been led into a trap and were in the private sanctuary of the Separatist Commander General Grievous”
“Back at his castle, Grievous was ambushed by Fisto and Vebb. Grievous engaged the Jedi in lightsaber combat, but Fisto was able to sever the general’s mechanical legs. The Jedi and the clone troopers attempted to subdue Grievous, but the cyborg broke free and entered his hidden command center. He then sealed off all the exits from his castle, trapping the Jedi and their clones inside. As the Jedi tried to reach Grievous, the general sent his pet roggwart Gor after them, while his repair droids worked to fix his damaged limbs”
“As the restored general emerged, Vebb confronted Grievous, and the two fought as Fisto sneaked into the command center. Vebb was quickly killed by Grievous, who then went after Fisto, forcing the Jedi onto the castle’s outer platform. As the two fought, Fisto used the thick fog surrounding the castle to his advantage and deactivated his lightsaber in order to sneak up on Grievous, who was caught off-guard. The two continued their fierce lightsaber battle, and Fisto managed to sever the hand that Grievous held Vebb’s lightsaber in, reclaiming the blade in honor of his fallen comrade. Three of Grievous’ MagnaGuards joined the battle, and the Jedi was soon surrounded and outnumbered. Grievous demanded Fisto surrender, but the Jedi managed to escape when his ship appeared, and he jumped into its open cockpit”
“Fisto not only had to fight the wrathful cyborg Grievous, but also his powerful MagnaGuards. As he stood alone, the odds seemed stacked against him...”
Danger and Death
“Toward the end of the war, General Grievous surprised the Republic and attacked the capital world of Coruscant, kidnapping Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. Kit Fisto was one of the Jedi who tried to defend the chancellor against Grievous, but the cyborg general eventually succeeded in his mission to nab Palpatine. Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi ultimately thwarted the general in his plans before he could leave Coruscant’s orbit, and Palpatine was safely returned”
Final Duel
“Even as Obi-Wan Kenobi ended General Grievous’ reign of terror on Utapau, Anakin came to Mace Windu with disturbing news”
Bespin and Other Outer Rim Planets (2021):
“Between the outer and inner wall was a wide circular galaxy decorated with glittering tracery. In the ornament there were symbols and faces in intense blue, which commemorated the history of the clan and more past mothers. When an invasion of Separatist droids destroyed the Nightsisters of Dathomir, it died out and the caves were plunged into darkness. Only Mother Talzin and Asajj Ventress appeared to survive General Grievous's brutal attack”
Protocol and Service Droids (2021):
“The EV's medical droids, also known as A4 lab helper droids, were produced by the MerenData company. At first, they were part of the supervisor droids of the same series, but later they were reconfigured as cheap medical units, to circumvent the security problems they had shown”
“Unfortunately, apart from their poor reputation in the marketplace, the droids' unsettling appearance did not inspire much confidence in patients, and their sale was generally a flop. The Confederacy of Independent Systems acquires and upgrades one of their droids to assign him as General Grievous's chief cybernetic surgeon and repairman”
“The droid in question showed the same sadism as his patient, perhaps a consequence of the personality problems of his original series. However, Grievous seemed to tolerate his sarcasm and insolence, which he compensated for with his effectiveness in performing the surgical repairs required by his bionic body. However, the situation did not turn out as expected, and his medical droid had to replace his legs and faceplate. Unfortunately, the Jedi re-entered the scene and fought Grievous shortly thereafter. Since the droid was informing his master of the enemy's movements, Fisto went into the control room where he was and cut EV-A4-D in half. He was later rebuilt by order of the General, and continued to serve until the end of the war”
“EV-A4-D has a brooding and sarcastic personality like that of his fighter, General Grievous. Maybe that's why the cyborg put up with his constant comments”
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2021):
New Friends, New Enemies
“The Separatists also had new commanders. The cyborg General Grievous, present at the battle of Geonosis although remaining hidden, finally came out of the shadows. Next to him would be Asajj Ventress, an old Padawan who had fallen on the dark side and was now Dooku's murderer. General Kenobi would confront both leaders of the CIS many times during the war”
“His tendency to seek, and often achieve, diplomatic solutions to potential conflicts earned him the nickname "the Negotiator", which was always mocked by General Grievous”
Grievous Enemy
“Obi-Wan would cross blades with the cyborg leader and General Grievous a number of times during the conflict. When Grievous's flagship, the Malevolence, was finally tracked down after raining unchecked destruction on Republic shipping, its main weapon was swiftly disabled by a fighter group led by Anakin. However, the massive vessel was able to take the damage inflicted by Kenobi's ships. When Senator Amidala was captured by Grievous after being tricked into coming to the location of the ship, Kenobi was one of the team who successfully went to rescue her and further sabotage the Malevolence. He fought fiercely with Grievous aboard a moving supply train inside the ship’s hull”
“Not long after, Obi-Wan would come close to capturing the cyborg again, when he led a fleet group to Rishi after the alarm was raised that Grievous was trying to bring a CIS fleet to Kamino. In the end, the Separatists were driven off, with Grievous escaping yet again"
“On Utapau, Obi-Wan and Anakin thwarted General Grievous' attempt to secure a massive kyber crystal for an unknown weapons project”
“The Outer Rim sieges were going very well, with Saleucami ― where they’d once almost cornered Grievous ― finally having fallen, allowing the rejuvenated Quinlan Vos to move his troops to Boz Pity”
Final Battle
“Surrounded by his MagnaGuards and other battle droids, Grievous was gloatingly confident. Using the Force, Kenobi crushed Grievous’ entire cadre of bodyguard under heavy equipment pulled from the ceiling but the cyborg drew four lightsabers and advanced, laughing. The laughter died in his artificial throat as Obi-Wan cut off two of his hands. Clone troopers swept in, blasting the battle droids. Grievous did what he always did ― he fled. Boarding his wheel bike, he tore out of the hanger. Calling his mount, Kenobi gave chase”
“By the time the combatants reached Grievous' hidden starfighter, wheel bike had been destroyed. Obi-wan had dropped his lightsaber, so he grabbed the electrostaff Grievous had dropped and, knocking the cyborg’s blaster away, started hammering on Grievous’ chest. He felled the general, but was kicked away. Losing the initiative, Kenobi took a good beating, even though he managed to lever open Grievous’ chest plating to reveal the organ sac within”
“Kenobi was hurled over the edge of the landing platform, only just managing to catch himself. Picking up the electropole, General Grievous advanced on Obi-Wan, ready to deal the death blow. Catching sight of the dropped blaster, Obi-Wan called it to him and shot General Grievous repeatedly in the chest. His organs ablaze, the cyborg screamed. The intense fire consumed the last organic remains, and an empty shell hit the floor”
Ships of the Republic and Separatists (I) (2021):
“Count Dooku and General Grievous saw the value of these ships, thanks to which an adequate supply of the enormous defensive block on Serenno, the Count's homeworld, was maintained. They were also used in Grievous's successful assault on Dathomir and on Dooku's threatened invasion of Scipio. Whenever they deployed these ships, the forces their adversaries played to win”
Passing from Hand To Hand:
“Early in the war, General Grievous ― the cyborg commander of the Separatists’ droid armies ― had lost his own flagship, the Malevolence. This had been source of some small satisfaction to Nute Gunray, who hated the General for the preferential treatment the creature received from Count Dooku. In turn, Grievous despised the cowardly, pompous, idiotic Gunray. It brought him cruel amusement to demand Gunray give up Invisible Hand to him, something quietly but pointedly insisted on by no less than Darth Sidious himself. Viceroy Gunray was furious, but could not refuse”
Heavy Handed:
“General Grievous was singularly effective in his use of the Invisible Hand, and it became widely known and feared throughout the Republic. This and other Providence-class warships ― like Admiral Trench’s Invincible, the Lucid Voice, and the Prosperous, were an ever-present threat in the battles to take key Republic worlds”
“In the final weeks of the Clone Wars, the Invisible Hand became home for Count Dooku, as the main communications pod was refitted to allow the Separatist leader to broadcast across the Republic’s Holonet system, and the Separatist’s own Shadowfeed, spreading his own propaganda at will”
“The Invisible Hand, with both General Grievous and Count Dooku aboard, led the Separatist attack on Coruscant at the very end of the Clone Wars. When General Grievous kidnapped the Supreme Chancellor, he brought him to his flagship where Dooku broadcast Palpatine’s plight to the whole Republic. Before the ship could flee, it was surrounded by Republic craft, trying to defend the capital and rescue Palpatine. Dooku died in his tower, killed by Anakin Skywalker. Grievous, though, managed to escape, abandoning his flagship in an escape pod. Crippled, it snapped in two during a crash landing on Coruscant. The threat of the Invisible Hand was no more”
Grievous’ Flagship:
“The most infamous Providence-class ship was the Invisible Hand, flagship of General Grievous and, briefly, home to Count Dooku and his propaganda broadcasting service. The Invisible Hand was fielded as a carrier, with a compliment of 20 squadrons of droid starfighters. It could also carry a force of thousands of B1 and B2 battle droids, droidekas, and OOM security droids, along with 440 transports - including Hailfire droids - to the surface of any world Grievous wanted to subjugate”
“The standard crew of a Providence-class ship was 900 officers, droids, and conscripts, but Grievous’ vessel was modified for a smaller crew following the orders of a Captain Lushros Dofine and a number of other Neimoidians left”
“The Invisible Hand belonged to Viceroy Nute Gunray of the Trade Federation until Grievous chose to have the ship handed over to him after his flagship, the Malevolence, was destroyed due to sabotage by Anakin Skywalker”
“The average crew of a Providence-class ship was 900 droid officers and conscripts. The host of Grievous's modified ship, meanwhile, was costed by a smaller droid crew, commanded by a Neimodian captain and other swamped commanders, in which the Invisible Hand was Viceroy Nute Gunray's flagship”
“Before manufacturing the Droch-class ships of the Colicoid Crescent Nest, it had already acquired an infamous notoriety for having convoyed the droidekas, or destructor droids, and the Pistoeka sabotage droids, a veritable nightmare spawn. However, harnessing the full potential of the boarding ship required twisted genius like that of General Grievous of the Confederacy. In the barren landscapes of Colla IV lived a deadly predator called the fanged-billed raptor”
Geonosis and Other Outer Rim Planets (2021):
“During the Clone Wars, Ahsoka Tano, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker were sent to break the blockade of Felucia by General Grievous. The first battle of Felucia between the Republic and the Separatists was a tough conflict, and nearly ended in disaster for the Republic forces”
The Clone Wars and the Jedi:
“Already at the time of the Clone Wars, another Gossam, Shu Mai, President of the Trade Guild, turned Felucia into the center of her organization's military operations. That decision caused the Republic to attack the planet, and to escape the conflict on their world, the native Felucians hid underground. The planet would be the scene of more battles, involving groups such as Clone Force 99, better known as the Bad Remnant. At the end of the conflict, when the treacherous Order 66 was activated, several Jedi were killed on Felucia, among them Aayla Secura, who had been sent to the planet with Commander Bly to capture Shu Mai. The Jedi was executed shortly after the start of hostilities”
Ahsoka Tano and Other Force Users (2022):
“With the mission advanced, Adi came to Obi-Wan's aid to capture Grievous, and for a moment alone fought the Separatist General. Unfortunately, the elusive cyborg managed to escape”
Return the Favour:
“Over time, it was Adi Gallia who ended up needing rescuing. Well into the second year of the Clone Wars, General Grievous launched a surprise attack on a cruiser commanded by Gallia traveling back to Coruscant and captured the Tholothian mistress. This act caused the immediate deployment of a group of Republic ships. Led by Master Plo Koon, Republic forces once again intercepted Grievous and rescued the Jedi in distress”
“General Grievous had killed many Jedi, from Padawans to Masters. Engaged in a lightsaber duel, Ahsoka barely managed to stay alive until she was able to escape the deadly cyborg”
Terror Attack:
“The encounter with Grievous and her subsequent posting to Cato Neimoidia gave Ahsoka the impression that ― full of adventure though it was ― her life as a Jedi was progressing as normal”
“On Dathomir, Merrin, one of the last Nightsisters, was being threatened by a fallen Jedi Knight named Taron Malicos. Merrin was initially deeply suspicious of Cal as she had seen her sisters killed by an armored being wielding a lightsaber. It was General Grievous, although none of them knew that. Believing that all Jedi were like Taron and the Separatist cyborg, Merrin launched her undead sisters and the Nightbrothers at Kestis”
Tank, Vehicle and Other Mechanized Droids (2022):
Anaxes and Kashyyyk
“DSD1 droids entered action in battles including Yerbana to Anaxes, during the so-called Outer Rim Sieges, although the latter planet was in fact in the Core worlds. The Republic had important shipyards on Anaxes, where a large number of ships were manufactured that were later used in the war. General Grievous tried to gain control of the shipyards, and a long, bloody battle. Several droids participated in the fight on the Separatist side, including a large number of dwarf spider droids that fought in different fronts across the planet”
Small is Relative
“By deflecting the laser beam with a lightsaber blade, as both Mace Windu and Yoda did during the Battle of Coruscant, the Jedi were able to bring down multiple enemy targets, before terminating the droid that had fired on them”
“Separatists tactics changed as Count Dooku and General Grievous focused on a deal in the Utapau system to acquire a kyber crystal from Sugi’s arms dealers, and taking it back to Dooku's homeworld of Serenno. Tri-fighters attacked Kenobi and Skywalker, but the Jedi evaded them, destroying the crystal as well as taking out the warship and much of the enemy fleet”
Battle over Coruscant:
“General Grievous was to kidnap Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, who was secretly the real man responsible for the Clone Wars, Darth Sidious. The space battle and skirmishes on the planet's surface were enough of a distraction for Grievous to take Palpatine away. The attacks had to appear convincing to fool the Jedi, so the valuable and deadly triaxes were used frequently during the battle”
“In space, the droid starfighters quickly shot down Republic ARC-170 fighter squadrons. On the surface of Coruscant, strafing runs in support of invading battle droids caused huge damage, and kept the likes of Jedi Masters Yoda and Mace Windu occupied long enough for Grievous to carry out the plan. By the time Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker arrived, Grievous had already captured his prey and reached his command ship.”
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (2022):
“Some time ago, Grievous sustained severe injuries that required extensive and complex repair. The resulting cybernetic implants transformed him almost entirely into a machine. Now, he commands the vast droid army of the Separatists, but when he is not leading his forces into battle, he is expanding his collection of Jedi lightsabers”
The Grand Army of the Republic (2022):
“Even though Obi-Wan took on many missions where he didn’t need to lead an army, he continued to work with Cody throughout the last year of the war. Rejoined the team of Anakin Skywalker and Captain Rex in the Republic’s all-out assault on Cato Neimoidia, intent on capturing Separatist Council member Nute Gunray. Although the Neimoidian escaped, the capture of his mechano-chair was a victory itself, because it gave Republic intelligence significant clues about the mysterious Sith behind the war”
The End of the Clone Wars (2022):
“The Republic’s military forces were driving back the Separatists on all fronts. Though this stretched their resources across the galaxy, there was a feeling that the Clone Wars had entered their final phase. Above Coruscant, the ships of a depleted but resolute Home Fleet patrolled their assigned orbits. In his rooms in the Jedi Temple, Master Yoda sat in quiet meditation”
Beginning of the End:
“Mace Windu had once posited that, whatever their apparent objective in the Outer Rim territories, deep down the Separatists wanted to attack Coruscant directly. His attempt to seize the coordinates of the Nexus Route, a hyperspace corridor that connected his territory with the heart of the Republic and Coruscant itself, confirmed this. When the Nexus Route was secured, it seemed that the threat was gone. But the Jedi Order could not imagine that by sharing the coordinates with Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, they were actually delivering the secret directly to their enemy”
“The attack came impossibly quickly. General Grievous’ fleet appeared out of hyperspace directly over the majority of the Home Fleet. The resulting devastation left a mere thousand or so Republic Star Destroyers frantically trying to rally some kind of organised defence. Meanwhile, hundreds upon hundreds of C-9979 landing craft and thousands upon thousands of their Vulture droid and tri-fighter escorts swept past toward the surface of the planet. With so many of the Senate representatives present for the Supreme Chancellor’s address, and with the population already relaxing their guard due to the rumours of an impending Republic victory, the surface assault met little resistance and caused confusion, panic and fear and indiscriminate casualties. The few Jedi present on Coruscant did what they could to organize a defense. Grievous's attack seemed random, almost desperate, and his improvised actions hinted to the army that this was the last desperate blow of a nearly defeated enemy. Despite Separatist blockades, distress calls for help eventually found their way. And while reinforcements arrived, both on the surface and in space, the Republic commanders tried to defend themselves and the planet”
“Shaak Ti headed the escort that must protect the Supreme Chancellor, but found an overwhelming enemy. Of the whole group, only she and Palpatine survive”
Kidnapped!:
“Jedi Masters Shaak Ti and Roron Corobb and a squad of clone troopers had been sent to Palpatine's apartments to act as his escort and he was being encouraged to evacuate to his shelter. Palpatine dismissed their concerns, determined not to run in the face of the Separatist aggression. It was at that moment that Grievous appeared, accompanied by MagnaGuards wielding electrostaffs made of lightsaber-proof phrik alloy. Though Shaak Ti and Corobb did what they could to get Palpatine to safety only Shaak Ti survived, shocked unconscious by Grievous who added her lightsaber to his collection before he left with his prize. Grievous made it back to his ship, the Invisible Hand, and he and Count Dooku immediately announced to a stunned galaxy that the leader of the Republic was their prisoner”
“On the Republic capital world of Coruscant, Grievous and Count Dooku had a problem aboard their destroyer, the Invisible Hand. Although they had Supreme Chancellor Palpatine prisoner, one could get out of orbit. Republic forces, joined by slowly arriving reinforcements, had massed to block the Separatists' escape. Slowly, the tables of the battle began to turn”
Protect Grievous:
“Grievous's ship had already suffered considerable damage from attacks by Republic ships. The General ordered a screen of CIS ships to be set up which included everything from a large battleship to a small frigate, all with orders to protect the Invisible Hand at all costs”
“As the Jedi ran for the elevator that would take them to the top of the conning tower, General Grievous watched them from the front bridge of his ship. Grievous assured the captain that the arrival of the Jedi had been foreseen by none other than Count Dooku himself”
Communications Failure:
“The space battle on Coruscant maintained all its intensity and the invisible hand continued to be the main objective. Due to the sheer volume of communications interference caused by both sides in their efforts to confuse their adversaries, the captain of the Republic Star Destroyer Guarlara was unaware that Supreme Chancellor Palpatine was still aboard the Separatist flagship. After breaking through the blockade surrounding Grievous's ship, the Star Destroyer opened fire on the Invisible Hand fire on the Invisible Hand began Coruscant's gravity and toward the atmosphere”
“As yet unaware that Count Dooku lay dead on the observation deck, Grievous was delighted at having captured his old adversary, Obi-Wan, and the legendary Anakin Skywalker. His gloating was to come to an abrupt end. Obi-Wan couldn’t resist a little gloating of his own before Anakin gave R2-D2 the signal to spring their own trap”
Turning The Tables:
“R2-D2 activated his fire extinguishers and stunned nearby droids by overloading his arc welder and electropica, providing the distraction Obi-Wan needed to retrieve his lightsaber through Anakin. Ironically, the Supreme Chancellor was taken to a safe place for the Battle Droids of Grievous, while the Jedi should deal with the general's MagnaGuard escort. By then, Obi-Wan and Anakin had already become accustomed to dealing with the phrik alloy electrostaffs that the IG-100 carried. Soon, the Supreme Chancellor was rescued for the second time and General Grievous was caught in his own bridge”
Grievous Escapes:
Using his unerring ingenuity, the General took a fallen electro-staff and used it to break the bow window. As the ship's pressure began to vent, the cyborg was also sucked back into space, while Obi-Wan and Anakin struggled to avoid following its path. Using his grappling hook, Grievous climbed back into the ship and headed for an escape pod. The Separatist commander abandoned all on board, launching all escape pods. He was then picked up by another of his ships and fled the battle.
“Grievous was a formidable opponent, especially if he had the help of his MagnaGuards armed with electrostaffs. But, when these defeat forces, he decided to escape”
“The denser, darker, and more dangerous regions of Kashyyyk’s vast wroshyr forests prevented the Separatists from using heavy vehicles. Even the STAPs had trouble moving. The foot battle droids didn't stand a chance against the local wildlife or the Wookiees, who were some (?) blending in with the environment. In the end it was decided that the decisive battle would be fought in the Wawaatt Archipelago, on the beach near the city of Kachirho”
Separatist Plot:
“General Grievous was instrumental in causing conflict break out between the Wookiees and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, after his battle droids were too heavy-handed in persuading the Wookiees that they should throw in their lot with the Separatists”
“Kachirho was, much like the Kashyyyk system itself, a vital strategic location. Its capture and occupation would have given the Separatists a defensible location to begin landing the huge number of troops needed to begin the conquest of the rest of the planet. It would also have become a spaceport through which many planet’s resources, including Wookiee slaves, would have been processed. All of this, however, was merely as bonus. There was another reason why Kashyyyk in general, and Kachirho in particular, was of interest to General Grievous and the Separatists”
“The city was home to the Claatuvac Guild: a secretive organization of Wookiee navigators and map-makers specializing in hyperspace navigation. They had in their records routes unknown to the Republic, and knowledge of those vital routes would have given the Separatists an important edge in the war”
“The Separatists raided but failed to destroy the oil refinery near Kachirho City and in separate action, Chieftain Tarfful was captured by Trandoshans. He was rescued by a small unit of Republic commandos and returned to his people. This further strengthened the resolve of the Wookiees to resist any invasion of their world. It was Tarfful himself who traveled to Coruscant to seek Republic assistance in the coming conflict”
“Jedi Grand Master Yoda, whose previous involvement over the years in the depressingly regular skirmishes between the reptilian Trandoshans and the Wookiees had earned him the title ‘Defender of the Home Tree’ led the Republic forces to Kashyyyk. They broke through the Separatist blockade over the world and deployed as planned at the Wawaatt Archipelago”
With the leader of the Separatists, Count Dooku, dead, capturing the cyborg General Grievous was now perhaps the key to fatally disrupting the Separatist forces and ending the Clone Wars once and for all.
“The mission was one that had been attempted before ― the capture of General Grievous. The recent death of Count Dooku, the presence of the Separatist Council on Utapau, and the significant gains made against the Confederacy lent a new urgency to the task. Here was a very real chance to bring an end to the Clone Wars. As a result, the fleet of Star Destroyers and the battalions of clone troopers that accompanied General Kenobi to the planet were three times larger in number than was usually needed to take one small star system”
“This was not the first time that Jedi General Obi-Wan was tasked with the capture of Separatist leader General Grievous. He would need back-up for his mission, and a Republic troop to be led by Commander Cody was assembled to assist him”
Pau City:
“After making their initial plans, Obi-Wan left veteran Clone Commander Cody to finish the preparations ahead of the assumed assault, and boarded his starfighter. With the Republic’s Star Destroyers out of scanning range a short hyperspace hop away, Obi-Wan was left very much alone as he detached his ship from the hyperspace ring and made his approach to Utapau. The Jedi headed straight for the planet’s capital, Pau City”
“The massive sinkhole settlement, built into the vertical walls across many interconnecting levels, was the principal starport and administrative centre for Utapau. Things looked peaceful enough, save for one obviously recent addition ― the pale globe of a Trade Federation core ship jutting out from the side of the sinkhole. This could have nothing more suspicious than a trade vessel, but Obi-Wan knew this was unlikely”
He Is Here!:
“Initial pleasantries dealt with, Obi-Wan requested fuel and permission to use Pau City as a base to begin his search for General Grievous. Unsure of Medon’s loyalties, Kenobi hadn’t wanted to reveal that reports had placed Grievous on Utapau”
“Waving waiting Utai on to begin refueling the fighter craft, the Pau’an stepped closer to the Jedi. He whispered urgently that Grievous was on Utapau. His people were hostages, watched over from the 10th level by thousands of battle droids. Obi-Wan calmly suggested the Utapauns take shelter, and that any warriors they might have should make ready. Bowing, the two parted.
Watching from a platform high above, a MagnaGuard and two battle droids had seen Obi-Wan Kenobi refuel his fighter and make ready to leave. As the droids went to make their report, however, they missed the Jedi covertly slipping from his ship just before it took off.
Finding Friends:
“From above, much as he had done on Geonosis years before, Obi-Wan spied on a meeting of the Separatist Council. He watched as General Grievous bickered with Viceroy Nute Gunray. Reluctantly, Obi-Wan let the council leave, which drew off some of the battle droids. Knowing Cody was about to launch his assault, General Kenobi opted for a bold strategy. He simply dropped down to the hanger blow and bid the astonished General Grievous a polite hello”
“This was not the first time Kenobi and Grievous had met in one-on-one combat, and both were aware of the skill of the other ― it was not going to be an easy fight”
Kill Him:
“Grievous complimented his old foe on his bravery, and then ordered his escort of four MagnaGuards, to kill the Jedi: Kenobi adopted his normal ready stance, drawing the droids in. He then abruptly straightened up and, using the Force, threw down an overhanging magnetic cargo grapple. All but one of the droid guards was crushed, and the Jedi quickly dispatched the survivor”
“Calling off the numerous battle droids in the hangar, Grievous did exactly what Obi-Wan had hoped he would do. Casting off his cloak, the general split his arms and fired up four lightsabers. Jedi and cyborg fought briefly along a catwalk suspended over the lower levels of the hangar. By limiting Grievous’ movement to the catwalk, Obi-Wan was able to neutralise the general’s usual more wide-ranging fighting style. Kenobi kept the fight close to the cyborg and, used to Grievous's moves now after so many encounters, it wasn’t long before a clawed mechanical hand and the lightsaber it had once held clattered down onto the deck”
“Grievous was incensed. He launched a blistering attack, but his focus was gone. A matter of seconds later, he lost another hand and another weapon. There was a standoff for a moment and, right on cue, the air was torn by blaster shots. Swarms of LAAT/I canons floated down into the sinkhole, and elite clone troopers rappelled down from the gantries overhead. Cody and his men had arrived. If Obi-Wan had hoped at all that Grievous might surrender, however, he was disappointed. Instead, the General gloated that, army or not, he would see Kenobi dead. Unfazed, Obi-Wan used the Force to push back the cyborg and drive him into a hanging cargo grapple. Stunned and now fully disarmed, Grievous crouched like a spider and scuttled off”
“Grievous headed straight for his wheel bike. Firing it up, he tore back through the hanger, seeking to crush Obi-Wan. The Jedi barely made the leap to a lower level, but his opponent rocketed away, his bike wreaking havoc on any clone troopers in his way. Obi-Wan once again mounted the varactyl and was soon following close behind. On the skin of the core ship, Obi-Wan and Boga struggled without the magnetic adhesion Grievous’ wheel bike possessed. In the confusion, Obi-Wan dropped his lightsaber. It was picked up by a vigilant clone trooper, but Kenobi was now unarmed.
Always leaving himself a way out, General Grievous had his personal fighter, Soulless One, docked at a landing platform far from where the main Separatist base was. That was where he was heading when Obi-Wan and Boga finally caught up with him. Able to steer his bike and fight at the same time, Grievous drew an electrostaff and began to attack Kenobi. Obi-Wan managed to disarm the general, while getting in a few jabs of his own. Grievous grabbed the weapon and pulled both it and Obi-Wan over to him.
Boga dropped back, still in pursuit, while Jedi and the Separatist battled on the bike. With the staff being wrestled for, Grievous drew a blaster. Obi-Wan dodged, but the struggle broke Grievous’ control of the bike and it flipped the two combatants off onto the landing platform. The bike spun away from the platform and exploded on impact with the ground far below”
Hand to Hand:
“Obi-Wan recovered quickly, and grabbed at the electrostaff. He managed to once again disarm Grievous and knock his blaster away, whiling landing a few solid blows on the general himself. Knocking him down, Obi-Wan drove the shaft into Grievous’ abdomen, but the cyborg kicked Kenobi clear. With no weapons, the two fought hand to hand - Obi-Wan was suddenly at a disadvantage. Grievous backhanded Kenobi clear across the platform to bounce off the parked fighter. Not letting up in his assault, Grievous picked the Jedi up, narrowly missing taking Obi-Wan’s head off with a punch that heavily dented the fighter. Obi-Wan took the opportunity to grab and tear open the plates protecting Grievous' few remaining organic organs in their synthetic gut sack. Alarmed, the cyborg threw Kenobi away”
End Game:
“Wounded but far from beaten, Grievous advanced on Obi-Wan, laughing. The Jedi attempted to fell Grievous with a sweeping kick to the leg, but succeeded only in nearly breaking his own shin. Laughing still louder, Grievous hurled Obi-Wan right off the platform. Picking up the electrostaff, the general stalked to where Obi-Wan was struggling to lift himself back up to safety. Still dangling from the edge, Kenobi used the Force and called the discarded the blaster pistol across to him. Taking careful aim, he fired at Grievous’ exposed gut sack. over and over again he fired. Shrieking, Grievous caught fire, his vital organic components burning furiously. He was dead before his empty cyborg frame hit the ground”
Throwing away the blaster in disgust at having to resort to such an uncivilized weapon, Obi-Wan called Boga to him. The varactyl quickly carried Kenobi to where Commander Cody was leading his troops in mopping up the remaining Separatists. The battle was going their way and, with Grievous dead, it looked like Clone Wars were all but over
“On Utapau, Obi-Wan Kenobi turned imminent defeat into ultimate victory, gunning down General Grievous with the cyborg's own blaster. The Battle of Utapau was in its final phase. Elsewhere, Jedi generals across the battlefields of the Clone Wars sensed victory. The Separatist Council cowered on Mustafar, unaware that they had one last fatal role to play in the Sith plan”
“Anakin arrived at the Jedi Temple, finding Mace Windu and three other Jerdi Masters about to depart for Palpatine’s office. The Clone Wars were over now that General Grievous was dead”
Seeds of Rebellion:
“On the planet Kaller, Padawan Caleb Dume had brought the legendary Clone Force 99 to help reinforce his master, Depa Billaba, and their troops. The ‘defective’ clones of CF 99 used unorthodox-but-effective tactics to destroy the droids pinning down Billaba. Despite hearing that Kenobi had engaged Grievous on Utapau, Master Billaba was leaving nothing to chance. She let Caleb follow Clone Force 99 into battle while she hung back to lead the rest of her command”
Remains of a Foe:
“He knew his beat chance of escape lay, ironically, with the ship General Grievous had fled from him in so many times. Far from the fighting, the Soulless One was waiting”
“His worst fears confirmed, Obi-Wan headed for his escape route. Without even sparing General Grievous’ body a passing glance, he boarded the Soulless One and departed Utapau”
A Plea for Help:
“Darth Vader's arrival on Mustafar had been anticipated. With the death of Count Dooku and General Grievous, Darth Sidious spoke to the Separatist Council. They were not to worry, as everything was going according to plan. Soon, the clone troops would turn on their Jedi commanders, and the war would end in a total victory for the Separatists. When this actually happened, and scattered reports began to feed through to the Council, Nute Gunray of the Trade Federation was more than happy to report to Sidious that the plan had been a success”
“The Sith Lord assured Gunray that he had done well, pleasing the Neimoidian, as he felt this would cement his position as Head of State of the Confederacy and leader of the Council over his rivals”
“Darth Vader's initial attack forced Obi-Wan Kenobi back. Though the Jedi expected the onslaught, his ferocity bored him for a moment. Feeling the concentrated hatred of his great friend as he had felt in Dooku, Maul, Opress and Ventress was horrible”
Mustafar and Other Outer Rim Planets (2022):
Battlefield:
“Unfortunately, as has happened so many times, the galactic events were considered at home by the dreams of those small communities. During the Clone Wars, General Grievous crash-landed on Saleucami. He was able to flee from the Republican pursuers of him and saw that this world would be a good outpost. Consequently, he posted a large Separatist force there, large enough to have a supporting blockade fleet. The Siege of Saleucami was one of the last great battles of the Clone Wars and a victory for the Republic forces, commanded by Quinlan Vos. Later, Stass Allie led cleanup operations”
Kashyyyk and Other Mid Rim Planets (2022):
“During the Clone Wars, the Trade Federation within the Confederacy of Independent Systems struggled to find a suitable entry point for the invasion of Kashyyyk. For many, many years, CSI-allied Trandoshan slavers had raided the Wookiee homeworld for slaves, for which they had taken advantage of makeshift landing strips or smaller clearings that were useless to Trade Federation landing craft”
“In the end, the Federation managed to find a place to accumulate their troops in the Wawaatt archipelago, taking advantage of the hollows in the tree canopy and the few areas of open ground where the wroshyr trees had not found ground strong and deep enough to support their considerable weight”
Invasion
“Soon, all Wawaatt settlements except the city of Kachirho had been captured. The Republic, whose forces were hard pressed, had opted from the start to build a stronghold in Kachirho, although they had also sent some reinforcements to the outlying cities. The commando groups and the Wookiees worked in concert to harass the CIS forces, and also to gather information on their strengths”
Star Wars Day-at-a-Time Calendar 2023 (2022):
(#1)
“General Grievous serves as the supreme commander of the Droid Army during the Clone Wars until his defeat at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi. A cyborg, Grievous was once a Kaleesh warlord and was rebuilt after a shuttle crash”
Miscellaneous Ships and Vehicles (2) (July 29, 2022):
In the Battle of Parein II 4, the Republic forces were systematically destroyed by General Grievous, cyborg leader of the droid armies of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. On the battlefield, Grievous used a new weapon for the first time: his personal motorwheel.
“Grievous, Supreme Commander of the Droid Armies in the Clone War, used a very small number of vehicles. His agility and speed were often enough for him. However, the brutal cyborg occasionally used a custom TSMEU-6 motorwheel. Designed as an off-road reconnaissance vehicle, Grievous had modified it into a brutal assault machine with which to hunt down his preferred prey: Jedi Knights”
A Fast Motorcycle
“The TSMEU-6 motorwheel was designed and manufactured by the Z-Gomot Ternbuell Corporation, belonging to the InterGalactic Banking Clan. Its design was inspired by the Hailfire-class IG-227 droid tank and its colossal wheels. The speed displayed by wheel droids on any type of terrain was almost as terrifying as the weapons they wielded, greatly contributing to their fearsome reputation”
Grievous's Modifications
“The control panel for the motorwheel, which controlled additional systems for the General's reptilian vision. The result was a machine that required three arms to operate, something that was no problem for Grievous, and that even left his fourth arm free to wield a lightsaber”
Ezra Bridger and Other Users of the Force (August 05, 2022):
General Grievous
“Once recovered, Eeth Koth became a Jedi General, commanding troops and a flotilla during the Clone Wars”
“His ship, the Venator-class Steadfast, was ambushed near the planet Arda in the Outer Rim, and Koth was taken alive by General Grievous — vicious cyborg leader of the CIS droid armies. Grievous recorded a message for the Jedi Council, gloating over his tortured prize. Koth was far from beaten, and managed to secretly send a message using a subtle sign language. This allowed Obi-Wan Kenobi to lead a successful rescue mission to the Saleucami system”
“Koth remained part of the Jedi Council practically until the end of the Clone Wars. When he stepped down, he was replaced by the Zabrak master Agen Kolar”
Saw Gerrera and Other Characters From the Galaxy (August 26, 2022):
An Ancient Town
“After a long and peaceful existence in the dark sinkholes of Utapau, Tion Medon and the kingdom of the planet's inhabitants were unprepared for the coming of the Clone Wars and the brutality of General Grievous. The Separatist high command had decided to take refuge on Utapau, and Grievous was unwilling to be opposed by the Utapaun Committee that ruled the planet. He caused the MagnaGuard to kill all of their members, much to Tion Medon's horror. The Port Administrator had no choice but to submit to Grievous's demands, and a small Confederate base was formed in his city. Before long, a massive modified core ship had taken over much of the city's level 10 to serve as the command center for the Separatist droid forces”
Resistance to oppression
“In the final stretch of the Clone Wars, Master Obi-Wan Kenobi visited Pau City on the trail of General Grievous. Although Medon, who greeted the Jedi upon his arrival in the capital, stated unequivocally that there was no war on Utapau unless Kenobi had brought her with him, he took the visitor aside to confirm that Grievous was there and that he was holding Utapau hostage. His town. Having secretly fostered an opposition movement against the Separatist occupation, Tion hoped for help from the newly arrived Jedi. So it was, and the Republic forces, with the support of the Utapaun warriors and pilots that Tion Medon had helped uncover, expelled the Confederacy from the planet”
Star Wars Starships and Vehicles 33 (December 5, 2022):
“Throughout the Clone Wars, the cowardly Gunray remained himself in the background, usually hiding behind Count Dooku or General Grievous. And though Gunray had initially opposed Grievous leading the troops, the Neimoidian was forced by Sidious to bow to his orders, and ignominiously had to give his flagship, the Invisible Hand, to the cyborg”
Just Deserts
“When the Separatist Council was rushed to Mustafar, Gunray thought the end of the war was near, and though he was not wrong, Gunray could not have anticipated his fate. Darth Sidious had declared himself Emperor, and no longer needed the council. They were a nuisance, and needed to be removed, so Sidious sent Darth Vader to deal with them. One by one members of the council fell under the blade of Vader’s lightsaber. Gunray, the last left standing, begged for mercy, pleading that he had always been a good servant to Sidious. Nevertheless, he was dispatched by Vader. Gunray’s lust for wealth and power blinded him to the danger of an alliance with a being as evil and treacherous as a Sith Lord”
“Precisely one of these freighters, the Invisible Hand, served as the flagship of General Grievous in his position as commander of Separatist military operations”
“General Grievous also used one of these shuttles to travel to Utapau, where he had installed the Council of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, after their”
Star Wars Starships and Vehicles 42 (April 10, 2023):
“All of them put their invaluable resources and large droid armies at the disposal of Dooku and the tough General Grievous”
Star Wars Starships and Vehicles 45 (May 22, 2023):
“General Grievous often led entire fleets of imposing warships, commanding the Providence-class dreadnought, the Invisible Hand, that served in the naval forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. For his solo voyages, however, sometimes even into a planet’s atmosphere, he often employed a customized version of the Belbullab-22 heavy starfighter, which he had named Soulless One. Manufactured by Feethan Ottraw Scalable Assembles, the Belbullab-22 was a relatively small trident-shaped craft measuring just 5.71m (21 ft 11in) in length, but its weaponry made it fearsome. Armed with two rapid-fire triple laser cannons, it was lethal, while its sharp profile offered great maneuverability”
“Although the Feethan Ottraw company specialized in producing droid fighters, the Belbullab-22 was designed for an organic pilot. As such, it was equipped with a life support system and deflector shields, the generator for which was located behind the cockpit. In addition, Grievous had the ship coated with a layer of impervium alloy, to further harden the durasteel hull. Compared to similar droid fighters in the Confederation of Independant Systems, the Soulless One was vastly superior”
A Heavy Fighter
“Unlike other fighters of the same era, which had no hyperspace capability, the Soulless One was equipped with a highly advanced Class 2 hyperdrive. General Grievous needed to move freely between distant star systems to follow the various war campaigns in which his forces were engaged, so it was an advantage not to have to rely on an external hyperdrive ring, as was the case with smaller Jedi fighters. His ship also had two ion engines, located on either side of its main hull, for sublight speed. The engines were equipped with lateral thrust ducts to increase the fighter’s maneuverability in space combat. Flight was also aided by a rear directional spoiler”
“Finally, Grievous ordered a powerful Holonet transceiver to be installed on the fighter so that he could keep in contact with the Separatist forces under his command, even from great distances. With this system, he could establish normal connections or access hacked networks to avoid being intercepted by Republic spies. At the same time, the general could use the help of advanced long-range sensors in the front of the fighter during flight to anticipate any danger”
An Unexpected New Owner
“After his duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Utapau, Grievous tried to escape by reaching the platform where the Soulless One was stationed, but the Jedi pursued him. After forcing another duel, Obi-Wan ended Grievous’ life by shooting him in the chest with his own blaster as the general advanced on him with an electrostaff. The Jedi subsequently stole the late general’s to leave Utapau, after his clone troopers unexpectedly turned on him and attempted to execute him. Using the capabilities of the Soulless One, Obi-Wan was able to make contact with Senator Organa and fly to his consular ship, the Tantive IV. There he would meet the senator and Master Yoda, another survivor of Order 66, the order to kill all Jedi issued by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine”
General Grievous, a cruel Kaleesh warlord whose body was cybernetically enhanced, wreaked terror across the galaxy during the Clone Wars as commander of the Separatist droid army.
“Feared on most Republic worlds as the bloodthirsty military leader of the Separatist droid army, General Grievous often led battles from his flagship battleship, the Invisible Hand, proving that becoming a cyborg had not diminished his tactical skills. On his home world he had already shown himself to be a great military leader, but after a shuttle accident nearly took his life, he took the opportunity to replace almost his entire body with enhanced mechanical parts. Grievous even boasted of this radical transformation. He retained very little of his original Kaleesh body, only his vital organs, brain, and eyes, but with all cybernetic enhancements he had gone from a remarkable warrior to a killing machine. His hand-to-hand combat skills were a match for those of any ordinary soldier. But despite these physical abilities in a personal duel, the defining fact was that behind the mask was the mind of one of the most brilliant strategists of his time. Grievous did not hesitate to retreat if he was outmatched by an opponent, and understood that it was better to survive to fight on than to be captured by the Republic forces”
“Though he may have looked like a mechanical creation on the outside, Grievous hated droids, which he considered simply mindless automatons, and would become enraged if anyone dared to mistake him for a mere machine”
Jedi Hunter:
“Devious and brutal, Grievous' motivations seemed personal, and he displayed a deep hatred for the Jedi. Although Grievous was not a Force user, his keen senses and the precision of his mechanical limbs allowed him to fight at his best with lightsabers. This was aided by the instruction he received from Count Dooku, a Sith lord and former Jedi renowned for his swordsmanship. Grievous could split both his arms and turn them into four, so he could wield four weapons at once. One of his favorite tactics was to spin all four arms at high speed to create a deadly shield with the blades of his swords”
“With his cybernetic enhancements, Grievous considered himself a superior warrior to the hated jedi, something he was eager to prove at every opportunity. During the Clone Wars, he was rumored to have captured or killed nearly a dozen of them. Grievous prided himself on his collection of war trophies — the lightsabers of the Jedi whose lives he had taken. But it wasn’t just the Jedi who faced his ruthlessness. Grievous murdered the Gungan General Tarpals on Naboo, and violently attacked the Nightsisters of Dathomir, leaving few survivors”
The Abduction of the Chancellor
One of General Grievous' most audacious acts took place in the final stages of the Clone Wars, when he led a surprise assault on Coruscant, the capital world of the Republic. A fierce battle above the planetary metropolis was in fact a ploy to allow an infiltration group to reach the surface of Coruscant and capture Palpatine. (The kidnap in turn was a ruse, as both sides were being manipulated by Palpatine). However, even the chancellor’s abduction did not go according to plan. Before the Separatists could jump to hyperspace with their prey, the ship was boarded by Jedi Knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, who were able to rescue the chancellor. During the scuffle, Anakin fought and killed Count Dooku, to the encouragement of Palpatine. With his ship lost, Grievous was forced to flee for his life and he uses one of the escape pods to do so. On Dooku’s death, Grievous temporarily replaced him as leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, but he would not last long in that position.
Duel to the Death on Utapau
“Grievous' bloodthirsty career came to an end on Utapau, where he paid dearly for his overconfidence in the face of the Jedi. Grievous was unaware that he had been betrayed by the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, who had allowed his ervant’s location to become known to Republic intelligence services. When Grievous confronts Obi-Wan Kenobi on Utapau, the Jedi was able to disarm him with relative ease. The cyborg tried to escape when he saw he was about to be defeated, but Obi-Wan followed Grievous to the secret hanger in Pau City where he had hidden his starfighter, the Soulless One. They fought again, and the cyborg's formidable physical strength seemed to give him the advantage in a hand-to-hand fight. However, when he lunged at his opponent, wielding an electrostaff in fury with the intention of destroying Kenobi once and for all, the Jedi used the Force to pull Grievous’ blaster towards him. Kenobi shot at the general’s exposed organ sac, destroying the last biological remnants of Grievous with one shot. The cyborg’s body fell, lifeless, to the hanger floor”
“From his days as a Kaleesh warrior, Grievous trained and led his troops with great skill. That quality didn’t change when he became a cyborg general at the head of the Separatists’ droid army”
Star Wars: Shatterpoint - Appetite for Destruction Squad Pack (July 14, 2023):
“The nefarious General Grievous terrorizes the Republic! Unleashing the Separatist Droid Army throughout the galaxy, Grievous has proven to be more than a match for his Jedi adversaries. A shrewd military strategist, he makes use of brutal tactics to claim numerous victories and instill fear in his opponents. His reputation is only bolstered by his prowess in combat.”
“Trained by Count Dooku himself, Grievous wields lightsabers claimed from his fallen foes with deadly efficiency. His cybernetic enhancements further accentuate his skills, making Grievous a key player in the Separatist’s hopes to topple the Republic...”
Databank download: General Grievous (Jun 05, 2023):
“Perhaps the most recognizably infamous silhouette from all of Star Wars—the four-armed, quad-lightsaber-wielding dervish of death known as General Grievous! This bad-tempered leader of the Separatist Alliance proved himself to be a formidable foe even the Jedi did not engage recklessly.”
“General Grievous was once a male Kaleesh warlord who was eventually augmented with extensive cybernetics to such an extent that most of his organic body is just a memory. Grievous plays a central role in the Clone Wars as one of the highest-ranking officers of the Separatist Droid Army, where he commanded large forces and fought alongside other prominent leaders of the Separatist Alliance. It was under Count Dooku’s guidance that Grievous, in his new body, became skilled enough with lightsabers to duel Jedi with his advanced limbs letting him coordinate the motions of multiple lightsabers at once. It is particularly terrifying to consider that the lightsabers he wields were taken as trophies from the Jedi he has hunted down and killed.”
“It is certainly understandable that anyone watching Grievous march onward alongside his accompanying battle droids would find it hard to believe he is not entirely a machine. He often uses his extra limbs to help him scuttle with spider-like alacrity, effortlessly climbing walls and even ceilings to reach otherwise hard to reach locations. This also helps when chasing down nimble Jedi, which he greatly enjoys doing.”
Star Wars Starships and Vehicles 55 (Oct 08, 2023):
As is often the case, these fast, robust and agile vehicles became popular on the second-hand market as modified weapons platforms. They were also a favorite of racing enthusiasts because of their extreme top speed.
Grievous Modifications
“General Grievous heavily modified the wheel bike to suit his needs. In this way, he achieved his goal of leading his mechanical armies from the front, and his forces included the giant Hailfire wheel droids that operated on a similar principle to the wheel bike. Grievous further armored the already robust vehicle, removing the co-pilot’s seat to install a double ND-53 Golan Weapons laser cannon. He also removed accessories he deemed useless, such as the acceleration support harness and seat padding, and replaced them with magnetic panels that held his torso to the vehicle’s internal structure. When he went into battle at full speed, he could sweep away enemies with the blaster cannon, or by wielding the lightsabers that he had taken from fallen Jedi”
“General Grievous was so pleased with the wheel bike that he had units made for his personal retinue, the MagnaGuards”
Chases in Pau City
Aware that neutralizing Grievous could mean the end of the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan launched into a frantic chase through the pits and galleries of Pau City, hunting down the cyborg before he could reach his starship, which was hidden in a secret hangar within the city.
MagnaGuards
“The terror that General Grievous brought to the battlefield of the Clone Wars would not have been the same without his deadly droid retinue, the MagnaGuards. These loyal servants were expert fighters that flanked their lord and master, obeying him blindly, without concern for themselves. Before his rebirth as a cyborg, Grievous had always relied on a band of brave warriors to serve as his elite personal guard in his campaigns that swept across the desolate Huk worlds. After being appointed supreme commander of the Separatist droid forces, he requested that droids be built for him that were more capable than the simple Trade Federation combat models, which he despised as dependent on orders from a central computer and incapable of learning from their mistakes. Count Dooku authorized the engineers at Holowan Mechanicals to create a special series of droids to meet Grievous' needs. The result was the heuristically programmed autonomous combat prototype, or IG-100 series MagnaGuards”
Trained by Grievous
“Standing two meters tall, each MagnaGuard model was distinguished by a color: black, alabaster, blue, and gray. Each droid specialized in one kind of combat.
“For example, while some excelled in hand-to-hand combat, others were experts in demolition and the use of explosives. The heuristic programming with which they had been developed allowed them to study the combat styles of their opponents and refine their strategies accordingly. Although different combat techniques had been built into their memory during their development, Grievous had insisted that their memory be erased so that he could train them himself”
“Before coming face-to-face with General Grievous, his enemies had to overcome a barrier of the MagnaGuards, and very few were capable of defeating them. Given their exceptional performance, Count Dooku and other Separatist leaders also turned to them as escorts”
First-rate Fighters
“The MagnaGuards usually operated in pairs, where their movements complemented each other to corner their opponents. As combat was their primary function, they were designed with a processor system that allowed them to continue fighting even if they were decapitated or lost several limbs. For this purpose, they had a spare photoreceptor at chest level. Extendable heels on their feet gave them greater stability in their acrobatics as they fought”
“The MagnaGuards were made with a durable duranium frame, and developers at Holowan Mechanicals were inspired by the legendary Krath droids for their appearance. The guards were given traditional campaign capes from Grievous’ homeworld of Kalee to pay homage to his original bodyguards. By the final stages of the war, they were already veterans of many missions, as shown by the countless nicks, cracks, and dents in their bodies. General Grievous did not want them to be polished, believing that battle scars made them look more intimidating to their enemies.
The Abduction of the Chancellor
“A dozen MagnaGuards accompanied Grievous to Coruscant to undertake the abduction of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. Aboard the Invisible Hand, the Separatist flagship, they again faced the Jedi”
“On Utapau, Grievous remaining bodyguards were similarly neutralized by Obi-Wan. The Jedi Master used his cunning to eliminate them without even having to fight, crushing them under a massive chuck of metal using the Force. The cyborg general then made the decision to take on Obi-Wan himself. Grievous thought he was the better fighter, but his presumption would prove wrong. Though he had been instructed in the use of lightsabers by Count Dooku, he was no match for a perfectly trained Jedi with the Force as their ally”
Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook (Oct 10, 2023):
Dathomirian Noodles
“The stew on Mustafar ain’t hot enough for ya? Good thing I’m always found this recipe on Dathomir—a planet known for bein’ the home of the witches called the Nightsisters. Apparently, their coven got its mystical abilities by tappin’ into the Dark Side of the Force, which made ’em dangerous to the folks in power. Accordin' to the stories I heard, most of them sinister sorceresses were wiped out durin' the Clone Wars. While there may not be many of' em left castin' spells, some of the stuff they used to brew up in their cauldrons is still as enchantin’ as ever”
Star Wars Starships and Vehicles 58 (2023):
The Fourth Battle of Mygeeto
“Republic forces maintained an intense confrontation on Mygeeto in the final stages of the Clone Wars, in the so-called Outer Rim Sieges. By the time Clone Commander Bacara and his troops of the 21st Nova Corps were sent to the planet, several years of intense fighting had already taken place against the droids of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. in fact, the fourth Battle of Mygeeto began just a few months after the end of the third”
Star Wars Starships and Vehicles 60 (Dec 15, 2023)
“During the final stages of the Clone Wars, the Confederation of Independent Systems, led by Darth Sidious and Count Dooku, made Kashyyyk one of their top priorities. Although the Separatists had already conducted several small campaigns on the planet, they finally decided to focus their efforts on Kachirho, a coastal city located in the Wawaatt archipelago, which was surrounded by freshwater lakes. The Separatists considered it an ideal starting point to launch a ground campaign, since the city was not protected by the thick forests that concealed most of the Wookiees’ inland cities, and thus was more vulnerable to attack from orbit. Heeding the call of Wookiee leader Tarfful, who had been the leader of the city of Kachirho for decades and had taken it upon himself to organize the local defenses, numerous Wookiees rushed to defend their planet from the Separatist invasion”
Star Wars Starships and Vehicles 65 (2024):
The droid tanks were very active in the operation known as the Siege of the Outer Rim, a desperate offensive by the ruthless General Grievous at the end of the Clone Wars.
However, the highest-ranking members of the CSI's military apparch are beings of flesh and blood, who directed the bellicose campaigns waged throughout the galaxy, always under the supervision, directly or indirectly, of General Grievous, who, for his part, was only accountable to Count Dooku, Head of State of the Confederation of Independent Systems and, in his identity as Darth Tyrannus, Darth Sidious' acolyte.
While this chain of command is firmly established in the ranks of battle droids, B1s are prone to several programming flaws, moments of perplexity and personal tics, which, combined with a certain vulnerability, often irritates flesh-and-blood commanders, particularly the bullying Grievous.

Star Wars Starships and Vehicles 79 (2024)
“All his attempts to gain power and revenge had failed. After his imprisonment in the Sith temple of Malachor, the Dathomirian was a shadow of his former self, and only hatred kept him alive. A hatred that he concentrated on the figure of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Jedi who had almost ended his life”
“Despite the extermination perpetrated by Sidious, the cult of the Nightsisters lived on during the Imperial era through some practitioners such as the human Morgan Elsbeth, henchwoman of Grand Admiral Thrawn”
The Secrets of the Clone Troopers (2024)
“Bothawui: I almost didn’t make it through this mission in one piece, thanks to an up-close-and-personal encounter with one of the Separatists’ most dangerous leaders, General Grievous. After a promising start to the operation, things went downhill fast. Grievous took out most of my troops on Bothawui, and he would have done the same to me if Padawan Ahsoka Tano hadn’t stepped in. That wasn’t the only time she saved my hide, either”
Abel G. Peña about Ronderu
Recently Talking Tauntauns did an interview with Abel G. Peña - author of the “Unknown Soldier: The Story of General Grievous” and the man responsible for most of the Kaleesh lore in Legends. He was talking about his Galaxy’s Edge experience and a fragment starting circa 41:21 is very, very interesting.
Note: I’ve edited it a lot. I’ve basically cut most of the “umms”, “likes” and such stuff.
- One cool this is, they had a Kaleesh-style mask in the variety store in Star Wars Land… And I was looking at it so carefully, because I was like: „That doesn’t look like General Grievous explicitly”, you know? His pre-General Grievous mask. And I was like: „I think... I think that’s a karabback mask, I think that’s how you pronounce it. So, in the old Legends stuff, Grievous had what they called a mumuu mask and that was from one particular kind of creature from his homeplanet Kaleesh [sic]. And that’s what he’s made his mask out of. It’s kinda more narrow. I did a story called „Unknown Soldier: The Story of General Grievous” and I (...) basically wrote Grievous’ background. For Legends. So, I came up with this character, who was kinda his soulmate, basically. It was ambiguous what their relationship was, were they either half-brother and half-sister, or they were actually like lovers, or they were just hardcore war buddies, but, her name was... So I came up with wild Kaleesh names when I was worldbuilding and stuff. General Grievous, I gave him the original name of Qymaen jai Sheelal, right? And trust me, that was a mouthful. I remember when Kenner… when Hasbro tried to put out, a Grievous action figure before he was transformed into General Grievous, they didn’t even try to put it on packaging. They were just like: „Pre-cyborg Grievous”
- Sorry.
- Yes. But on the coin… They included these little coins,(...) sort of accesorry that they included with the figure. On there, they actually did write the name I came up for (...) him.
- Millions of little kids looked at it away.
- What?
- And wthey like, „How to say it, mom and dad?”
- Yeah. But his soulmate, I gave her a different name, it was Ronderu lij Kummar. and her mask was suppoused to be a complement to Grievous’ mask. So Grievous had a mumuu mask, Ronderu had the karabbac mask and it was a wider sort of mask. Um. Not slender like Grievous’ (...). So like I said, when I was at the variety shop and I saw they have a Kaleesh mask up on the wall and I was like: „Oh my God, like, is that a Ronderu’s mask?!” You know, I was having one of those moments and stuff and I was like: „I think it might be!” So I took a few pictures of it and stuff. I did some comparison and I was like: „Yeah, that could be artistic license and stuff, but it kinda resembles her mask”. So in my mind, I’m kinda happy about that and stuff. But that variety shop, it’s ultra cool, man, ultra, cool.
We actually had a little converstion about it on Twitter. Sadly, I can’t afford (for now) going to America and GE, but I wrote some time ago how the mask reminded me of the one Ronderu wore.
And speaking of karabbacs, they are now in canon! Well, at least their pelts. According to “The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary” Tommet Sozach form Kijimi had a jacked made out of a cloned karabbac.
I guess we’ll know more from “Traveller’s Guide to Batuu”, that is suppoused to come out in June (but it has been delayed a few times already).
For now, we can only hope she’ll become canon.

I mean, I already did a small domesticated variety of mumuu way back when. Still trying to figure out what I'm going to do for the karabbac. Though I'm leaning towards referencing large cats.
Winter coat karabbac update :)
The antler buds are along the shoulder blades, neural & iliac processes. Females tend to have pointier antlers. They defend from attacks from rivals & males looking for fights. Grendaju karabbac are at the very south of the planet & are in winter mode most of the time. During the short warm period, enterprising kaleesh might venture to hunt them. Even the sparse tribes dotting Grendaju's coastlines do not hunt winter karabbac. Its a combination of ancestral fear that the Long Dark is not a place for Kaleesh & also winter karabbac go sicko mode.
There are a species of karabbac in the north mountains but they are smaller & less intense. Usually when some chump is bragging about their karabbac kill it is the northern species & they fail to detail this for clout.
