Itâs mostly gonna be kmhn/kmhnmi/kmkmmi aus because I have too god damn many so Iâm making a little au compilation, Iâm also gonna put them on my comic ao3 once I find a functional media hosting site and fix my computer. I could do it on my phone itâs just less convenient
I like to imagine that all my Hinaegi/Komahinaegi/Komahinaenami School AU posts take place in a time window between Hajime signing up for the Kamukura Project and the actual part where he gets surgeried.
Like, in this AU he signed up, and instead of being taken in for alterations right away, there are a few months (maybe a year) of just doctor's appointments where he's getting blood tests and measurements and immunizations done. Because the physical changes they're going to make are so extreme, they need to make sure they have everything planned out ahead of time. He doesn't know the scientists are preparing to do major surgery on him; he thinks this is how the whole project is going to be.
And he doesn't tell Makoto, Nagito, or Chiaki; if the project successfully gives him a talent, he wants it to be a surprise. If it fails, he would be much too embarrassed, if he talked about it beforehand. Plus, Nagito would definitely tease him. Better to just keep the project to himself. (His contract definitely swore him to secrecy anyway.)
This results in a scenario where Hajime has his great relationship with Makoto ((and Nagito, in the Komahinaegi version) and Chiaki, in the Komahinaenami version), he actually confronts his talent hangups in such a way that he doesn't feel he needs the Project anymore, and then one day he disappears and his significant other(s) have to deal with that.
In the Komahinaenami version, Hope's Peak has now stolen a boyfriend from three very persistent nuisances. They will not let the matter rest.
And this means I get Kamukomaenami, a combination which I actually haven't done before.
I love Kamukomanami but especially my very specific angst version of it where Chiaki misses Hajime with all her being and is struggling even being around Izuru because heâs not Hajime but used to be.
Izuru is in love with her but isnât really Hajime so his perfect existence is suddenly not enough and he wants to change to be more like Hajime for her but he doesnât know how anything than what he is and struggles with his humanity all because of a girl he doesnât remember.
And Servant is in love with Izuru but canât seem to get to his attention away from Chiaki and is so crazy jealous and bitter but also doesnât want to hurt Chiaki because sheâs the only person to ever try being his friend and sheâs so hopeful how could he possibly hurt her

Summary: Kamukura and Nanami are fighting for one fluffy boyâs affections. Maybe they could team up... (Or maybe not.)
Rating: T+
Warnings: Suggestive Themes.
Notes: This is that indulgent KamuKomaNami AU that was GONNA be spicy, but I lost steam. Rip. I still like it well enough to post as is. I hope you all enjoy it.

Komaeda had invited them both, which was just fine. Komaeda showing such initiative was more than just a rarityâit was a monumental step. If this were a dating sim, this would definitely be one of the most defining moments of the route. Finally, the shy, insecure love interest is assured enough to ask...! Itâd certainly be the most romantic atmosphere by farâ
...If...only... Kamukura Izuru wasnât there. If only Komaeda hadnât invited him too.
Itâs still fine of course, but Nanami would still rather it just be her and Komaeda. She likes Komaeda greatlyâheâs her desired route and sheâll be damned if she canât complete itâbut Kamukura... Sheâs still not exactly...fond...of him.
Itâs complicated. She still feels the sting from Hinataâs disappearanceâand well, Kamukura certainly isnât Hinata, but seeing Hinataâs features twisted into aloofness, and then seeing how despite that, he displays a clear interest in Komaeda... Itâs complicated and beyond frustrating.
But, well, Komaeda is, unfortunately, utterly enamored with that guy due to his admittedly impressive array of different talents. At the very least, Komaeda doesnât ignore her in favor of him which would certainly be salt in the wound. As far as she can tell, he admires them both for slightly different reasons.
But just because you admire someone doesnât exactly mean youâre comfortable around themâit certainly doesnât guarantee feelings that are...deep. Maybe. Probably.
She thinks so.
So again, Komaeda taking the initiative was significant. That he felt comfortable enough to ask such a thing in spite of his admiration and how little he thinks of himselfâit meant something deeper. Nanami is sure of it.
So fine, sheâll deal with Kamukuraâs unpleasant presence for Komaedaâs sake. Itâs for Komaeda-kunâs sake.
That, she thinks, should be more than enough to get her through.
--
The library at Hopeâs Peak has just about everything. Novels, anthologies, textbooks, guides, magazines, even things that would probably be banned elsewhere. A lot of people come here to chat and can be rowdy, but itâs not that difficult finding a place where the atmosphere is calm and relaxing.
Komaedaâs favorite spot is on the highest floor where few others dare to venture and by the windows that give an admittedly beautiful view of the campus. Itâs quiet, itâs quaint, and already Nanami feels sleepy.
But with Kamukura lurking in Komaedaâs shadow, she must stay alert.
âAh, Nanami-san, what genres do you like?â She perks up at the question and finds herself fixated by the bright, inquisitive smile on Komaedaâs face. âI might be able to offer some recommendations! Iâve read a lot of books here and I remember where they are!â
I donât really read a lot of books, but... Her grip clenches around her shoulder bagâs strap. Komaeda-kunâs favorite genre is...
âDo you know any good...mystery novels, maybe?â
Komaedaâs eyes lit up. âPlenty! You like mystery too, Nanami-san?!â
Kamukura shot her a look. She did her best not to glare back and kept her tone steady, her smile easy. âI really like mystery games, especially with the horror element added. Even though some of the steps are particular about what you do and when you do it, itâs a lot of fun investigating and theorizing alongside the characters. So I think Iâd enjoy a good mystery novel. I trust your recommendation, Komaeda-kun.â
âAh, well, Iâm not exactly a fan of horrors and mysteries because they tend to, mm, involve serial killers...â Komaeda trails off, twirling around his hair and so insecure that Nanamiâs smile fades just a bit. Thankfully, he brightens back up. âBut! If thatâs okay with you, I know a good fantasy mystery! Itâs very fascinating and though there are extra things to keep in mind because of the world-buildingâwell, Iâm sure you can keep up, Nanami-san! As the Ultimate Gamer, itâs probably easier for you to keep many things in mind at once compared to someone like me...â
âYou shouldnât be so hard on yourself. Itâs not just gamers who have that capability after all,â Nanami points out. âKomaeda-kun, I think youâre better at a lot of puzzles than I am.â
âOh, no!â he exclaims, waving his hands frantically. âAbsolutely not! Youâre just way too nice! Now whoâs being hard on themselves? Haha!â
âShe is right,â Kamukura speaks up, to their surprise. His tone is cool and impassive. His eyes give nothing away. âIn spite of your condition, you have a sharp perception, Komaeda-kun.â
Komaeda reddens. Nanami frowns.
âA-Aah... If even Kamukura-kun feels that way... I-I guess I canât argue?â He seemed to be in such a daze before a dreamy smile overcame his features. Her chest felt tight, but she still immediately smiled when Komaeda turned back to her, giggling. âNanami-san, Iâll get you your book, okay?â
âOkay,â she agrees with a firm nod. Heâs quick to head off, though thereâs a bit of a sway to his step.
Biting her lip, she huffed and went to go seat herself. Kamukura, at some point, was seated across from her, and she pointedly ignored him, setting her bag between them.
What was to be Komaedaâs seat was also between them. So she scooted closer to it. Kamukuraâs chair, too, was closer even if it didnât make the same scraping sounds as hers did.
That was fine.
And then both of them were as close to Komaedaâs chair as they could get while still pointedly ignoring each other.
Komaeda, bless his heart, didnât even comment on it when he returned, carrying a stack of books in one hand while waving one book in the other.
âNanami-san! I found it! What a lucky find!â
âThank you, Komaeda-kun,â she replied, smiling up at him and taking the book. He set down the rest of the stack, making her head tilt curiously. âAre you reading all those others?â
âAh, yes, some of these are old favorites...and others are new so Iâm going to see if I like them.â Remembering, he turned to Kamukura, bright and expectant. âKamukura-kun, what are you going to read?â
âIâve already read everything here,â Kamukura said, simple and almost curt.
âOh,â Komaeda replies, faltering a bit. âAh, as expectedâdo you, er, have any favorites?â
âNo.â
âSo youâre just going to do nothing, Kamukura-kun?â Nanami asks, raising a brow and glaring. âI think thatâd get boring.â
âItâll be boring if I read something I already know everything about as well,â Kamukura said.
âI guess it was a mistake inviting you, huh?â Komaeda asks with a sad laugh. âIâm sorry, Kamukura-kun, I wasnât thinking...â
âYou did nothing wrong,â Kamukura quickly cut him off. Nanamiâs grip on her book tightened as he went on. âIf I did not wish to spend time with you, I wouldâve declined your offer. Iâm fine as long as I can observe you, Komaeda-kun.â
âOh no, thatâd be really boring,â Komaeda says, smile straining. âYouâre really strange, Kamukura-kun. Feel free to leave when it inevitably gets too dull around here.â
âTime spent with Komaeda-kun is never dull,â Nanami spoke up. âEven if itâs in silence doing nothing, Iâm happy to spend time with you, Komaeda-kun.â
Komaeda gets flustered. âYouâre really too nice. But, surely, Kamukura-kun doesnât feel the saââ
âI feel the same,â Kamukura says flatly, and Nanami meets his cold stare with one of her own.
âOh...â Komaeda looks between them and settles into his seat with a soft little titter that catches both of their gazes. âAlright then, if you two really feel that way... I donât understand it at all... Itâs almost like Iâm in the middle of a strange love triangle, but that could never happen, ehehehe...â
They trade one last look.
--
The novel Komaeda recommended to her was actually...really, really interesting. Despite its fantastical nature, it had a fairly grounded setting. Magic was surprisingly simplistic and so naturally woven into the narrative that it almost felt mundane. The characters were dramatic at times and certainly eccentric, but they still felt...like people.
It was definitely a novel sheâd expect Komaeda to recommend and enjoy.
There was a lull in the story right now so she stole a look at Komaeda beside her, caught in his own reading. His expression was...a bit pinched up and rather pensive. She wondered if that meant good or not so good things for the novel.
Looking at the title, with its cover depicting some unfamiliar place, she wasnât sure what its contents could be. For some reason, she doubted it was a mysteryâmaybe a drama? A coming of age story?
If she had to guess, it seemed to take place in some far-off country. That had to be interesting on at least some level, but Komaeda did look a bit frustrated, so maybe there was just something about it that was disappointingâ?
Komaeda flinched suddenly. He quickly settled back down as though that never happened. Was it the book?
Kamukura met her stare. His expression was unreadable but almost...expectant?
For some reason, Nanami felt the urge to look downâso she did, and her eyes promptly went wide.
At some point Kamukura had placed his hand on Komaedaâs chair. At some point his fingers drifted upwards to Komaedaâs thigh. Right before her eyes, Kamukura gave a gentle squeeze to Komaedaâs hip.
When she looked, Komaeda...looked like he was at a bit of a loss, like the situation just wasnât registering to him. He shifted a bit away from Kamukuraâs touch, and then Kamukura tugged on the edge of his blazer andâ
Kamukura immediately caught the book Nanami had thrown.
âYour reflexes are impressive, Kamukura-kun,â Komaeda noted. He turned to her, almost looking relieved. âWasnât that impressive, Nanami-san?â
âIt was,â she admits blankly. âEspecially considering the proximity.â
âIt was a matter of predicting your actions, Nanami-san,â Kamukura replies smoothly. He sets the book beside the stack rather than returning it to the top. âAnd being prepared for such.â
âIs that so,â she says coolly. âYou really are something, arenât you, Kamukura-kun?â
The look Kamukura gives her suggested he returned the sentiment.
âThat said,â Komaeda cuts in. âNanami-san, why did you throw that book in the first place? Were you really just testing his reflexes?â
Nanami gave him a look.
âYouâre so strange, Nanami-san,â he says, brightly and cheerfully. âYouâre still saving your spot in the book I recommended you.â
That she was, what with her finger stuck between the book where she stopped reading. Her face feels hot at him noticing that.
âItâs a good book thus far,â she mumbles, feeling her cheeks dye a pink to match her hair. She opens back to her place. âReally, Komaeda-kun, thank you.â
âItâs really nothing. Kamukura-kun, are you sure you donât want to read as well?â
Kamukura shakes his head. Komaeda seems to accept it with a shrug, and doesnât notice the glare Nanami shoots Kamukura, and how said glare sharpens, the implied warning clear and doubtless.
Kamukuraâs returning glance is little more than a meaningless, passing flicker of acknowledgment.
When Komaeda returns to reading, so does Nanami.
The book engrosses her again soon enough.
--
That said, there comes a point when she notices Kamukuraâs hand ghosting along Komaedaâs leg again. And just like before, he immediately catches the book thrown at him.
And the second.
And the third, for good measure.
This happens more than a few times, with how many books Komaeda had in that stack.
And it happens again and again untilâ
âAh, maybe...â Komaeda was laughing, easily and seemingly without any worries. âMaybe we shouldnât throw the libraryâs books around...? We might actually get into trouble.â
âProbably,â Nanami agrees, but sheâs still glaring at Kamukura. âItâs getting disruptive. This is a library after all. It wouldnât do good to act inappropriate, I think.â
Kamukuraâs cold, unaffected stare persisted.
âStill,â he comments coolly. âItâs doubtful anyoneâs going to see anything, much less say anything. This is a remote area.â
âStill Iâd rather not risk it with my bad luck,â Komaeda says. âAh, of course, Kamukura-kun could overcome that easily but I worry about Nanami-san...â
Nanami did shrink back, just a little.
âYouâre...â She licked her lips and then, âYouâre not at fault, Komaeda-kun.â
âNanami-san, you really neednât insist on such things. You really are too kind.â Komaeda smiled at her, wide and cheery, but it just made her feel worse. âI really, really do worry about you.â
âThen, should... Should we go somewhere else?â she asks. âIâm sorry, Komaeda-kun, I know you wanted to come here but...â
âOh, no! Donât worry about me! Honestly, though...â Komaeda thought it over, humming. âMaybe...somewhere a bit more private would have been better from the start? After all, I donât want Nanami-san and Kamukura-kunâs reputations damaged because they were seen with a measly worm like me.â
Kamukura scoffs, and Nanami, in fact, huffs.
âItâs not like youâre a villainous mastermind or something, Komaeda-kun,â she mutters. âThereâs nothing wrong with being on an outing with my friend and classmate.â
Komaeda flinched as though heâd been electrocuted and then, he was mumbling almost to himself, âMaybe I should throw myself down the stairs first... To think Iâd even consider...â
Nanami immediately takes his hand, meeting his wide-eyed gaze with firm, stern eyes.
âDonât hurt yourself.â Her grip tightens. âNo matter what the reason, never, ever hurt yourself on purpose, Komaeda-kun. Do you understand me?â
âAh, Nanami-san...?â He blinked a few times.
âCan you promise me, at least?â she asks, just barely keeping her voice from shaking. Her stare, for what itâs worth, doesnât falter once. âPromise? Please?â
â...I... I suppose Iâll promise...â Komaeda says, swallowing and averting his gaze almost bashfully. âI canât exactly resist when Nanami-sanâs gaze is so...intense... You really are an Ultimate...â
Nanami pulls back, not even hiding her sigh of relief. It was then she did notice Kamukuraâs boring stare and how for once there seemed to be a sense of...contemplation. Just as her brow furrowed, he spoke up.
âIf I had to guess... Komaeda-kun, you were thinking of inviting us to your home off-campus, werenât you?â
Both she and Komaeda almost jumped at that.
...Komaeda-kunâs home...?
âAh, well, because... Itâs not that far from here...â Komaeda was actually stammering a bit, undoubtedly flustered. The way he couldnât look at either of them seemed to suggest shame. âBut, well! Thatâs just so impertinent of me to ask! That Iâd even consider it just showcasing how lowly, how, ah, imprudent I am...! So... Well...â
âItâd certainly be more private,â Nanami found herself saying. âIf youâll have me, Komaeda-kun, I donât mind coming over at all, I think. I donât even care if itâs messy.â
âItâs not going to be a mess... If nothing else, Iâm good at cleaning...â Komaeda trails off. âIf itâs surprisingly okay with Nanami-san, then...â
âIâll go, too,â Kamukura says. Komaeda stiffens but slumps right back.
âRight... Of course... Alright, Kamukura-kun... Letâs go...â
Nanami shoots Kamukura a lookâhe returns it. Her eyes narrow as she considers the implications.
Itâs Komaeda-kunâs home. If heâs interested in that, then...
Then, what? What was she going to do?
Iâll protect him. She decides, and she tightens her grip on the book Komaeda lent herâthe one she hadnât let go of all this time. Iâll definitely protect Komaeda-kun. Komaeda-kun is my precious classmate. Komaeda-kun is my precious friend.
...
Komaeda-kun is mine.
--
She checks out the book. Sheâll definitely finish it. But for now, she keeps up with Komaeda and Kamukura. She keeps a close eye on both of them. Kamukura innocuously trails after Komaeda as he usually does.
But she doesnât let down her guard for a moment. Not on the walk, not on the train, and certainly not on the second walk.
She is, however, a bit taken aback by Komaedaâs home. It was...larger than normal but not overwhelmingly so. There was almost a pristine quality to just the outside look aloneâit almost reminded her of a dollâs house.
There was something off about it, but she couldnât put her finger on it.
When Komaeda invited them insideâand every single bit was sparkling clean, it struck her as...lonely.
Komaedaâs personal quirks were scattered throughout in the form of trinkets and paintings but the place didnât seem much lived in. Strangely, Komaeda himself seemed to feel out of place as he showed them around. Almost as though heâd had visitors only rarely, if ever.
As the host, Komaeda seemed...uncomfortable.
âIâm not a very good host, am I?â he even asks at one point with a pained, self-deprecating laugh. âIâm sorry. Iâm really sorry.â
âDonât worry about it, Komaeda-kun,â she said.
He smiled a bit more, but he still seemed so sullen.
Thankfully he did brighten up when he showed them the bookshelf in the living room.
âI collect a lot of novels myselfâitâs almost like its own miniature library!â he chirped, even as he immediately followed up with, âOf course, compared to Hopeâs Peak, itâs obviously...â
âYou have quite the impressive collection, Komaeda-kun,â Nanami noted before he could go on further. Kamukura was humming and scanning each titleâhe probably read all of these too.
âAh, well, there are more elsewhere... Readingâs one of my favorite pastimes after all...â He shrugged. âI donât have the same affinity for books as Nanami-san for video games, of course, but still...â
âThereâs nothing wrong with that, Komaeda-kun,â she said simply. He simply hummed in thought in return.
Then, realizing, he clapped with an exclamation of, âOh! Since Iâm the host! I should prepare something to eat...! Right, how could I forget?!â
âYour kitchenâs largely unused,â Kamukura noted, still scanning the bookshelf. âKomaeda-kun, you donât often cook here, do you?â
âItâs not like I canât cook at all!â Komaeda shot back, cheeks puffed out even as he thoughtfully folded his arms. âBut, ah, what a dilemma... If I cook now, with both Nanami-san and Kamukura-kun... Thereâs surely going to be a devastating explosion from any attempts I make...â
âDevastating?â she questions right before Kamukura offers,
âIâll cook, then. That way nothing will happen.â
âOh Kamukura-kun, I could never...!â
âI insist,â Kamukura says, cutting him off. âIâll cook.â
âOkay.â Komaeda immediately stops his protesting, the corner of his smile twitching. âIf, uh, Kamukura-kun insists, then itâd be...impudent of me to...argue.â
Come to think of it. Nanami perks up. Cooking for someone could be considered...
âCan I help?â
âThatâs unnecessary,â Kamukura immediately states, eyes narrowed as Komaeda looks at her with surprise. âI donât need any assistance.â
âOne time, I made a meal that got full points and won the blue ribbon at the contest. The judge thought it was so good that he fell in love with me,â Nanami muttered, puffy and irritated. âEven if I havenât got the talent for it like Kamukura-kun, itâs not like my help will be a burden either, I think.â
âNanami-san won a contest? And won the judgeâs affections in addition to the ribbon?â Komaeda wondered curiously before he clapped his hands with a bright laugh. âNanami-san, you really are incredible!â
âSheâs obviously referring to a video game,â Kamukura pointed out, grumbling almost.
âStill! Sheâs willing to improve her cooking skills, which can help with all future cooking games to come! That brightness! That hopeâKamukura-kun!!â Komaeda spun around, eyes sparkling with expectancy. âWonât you help her?! As the Ultimate Hope, itâs yourâyour duty to spread greatness in every way you can, no matter how roundabout and indirect!!â
âItâs your duty, Kamukura-kun,â Nanami repeats, with considerably less enthusiasm.
âI suppose,â Kamukura answers just as unenthusiastically, though there is some...sharpness with the way he returns Komaedaâs ecstatic stare. âIf you insist, Komaeda-kun.â
âOh...! Oh, no!!â Komaeda immediately snaps back, flustered and protesting with rapid shakes of his head. âI donât mean to FORCE you into anything, Kamukura-kun! Even if it is as I said! Really, thereâs even more to it! You and Nanami-san, strangely enough, donât get along as well as you should!! So that Nanami-san seeks your guidanceâitâs such an improvement on how things usually are that the last thing Iâd want is to let it all go toâ!â
âKomaeda-kun.â Before she knew it, she had stepped forward and placed a gentle hand on Komaedaâs arm.
Kamukura, of course, had a hand on his shoulder. âBreathe.â
Komaeda inhaled sharply, trembled under both their touches, and laughed until his stomach growled. Blushing then, he wrapped his arm around himself and kept his eyes down.
Fondly, Nanami patted his arm with a giggle, Kamukura squeezed his shoulder before pulling away, and the two headed off. Nanamiâs smile soon faded as she stared down Kamukuraâs back and profile as she hurried to keep up with his long strides.
Kamukura didnât exactly look happy either if that quick, dismissive flicker of a glance in her direction was any indication.
--
âSince you probably know what youâre doing,â Nanami began, pouring in the rice. âI guess Iâll have to follow your lead...?â
âThat much should have been obvious,â Kamukura responded, thoroughly washing the vegetables. He already took off his blazer, rolled up his sleeves, and even donned one of Komaedaâs aprons. It was, unfortunately, a better fit for him than the one on her.
They both hung up their blazers on the same chair. But Nanami also hung up her hoodie, so itâs not as though the sides were balanced.
âYou also wanted to talk.â Kamukura doesnât even miss a beat. He states it all so simply, too. âThereâs no need. I already understand your concerns. Theyâre expectable enough.â
âIs that so,â she muses, skimming off the rice that rose past the scoopâs edges before pouring in another cup. âDo you just not care, then, Kamukura-kun? Thatâs cruel, I think.â
There was a pause. Kamukura noted that the tomato in his hand was probably sourer than the others. He kept that in mind.
And then, he said, âI was going to ask Komaeda-kun. Even with you here, heâll consent. You know he will.â
Nanami froze up. She swallowed.
âIt may be a bit tasteless if you stick around, making sure things donât go however you consider âtoo farââbut I do wonder...â Kamukura hums, and asks, almost curiously, âHow noisy do you think heâll be, Nanami-san?â
Nanamiâs nails practically screech against metal as she grips the edges of the pot. Sheâs barely thinkingâbut somehow, she doesnât spill anything.
âI wonât,â she says, only for the words to twist up with everything as she repeats, seething. âI wonâtâ!â
I wonât lose to this guy!
âHeâll consent to you as well, you know.â
Nanami stilled for a moment, thoughts pausing in place.
âThatâs...â she trails off, biting hard on her lower lip.
âThatâs why you came here as well, right? You certainly considered it.â
âI wanted to see Komaeda-kunâs home,â she said sharply, and she takes the pot to the sink. She shoved up her sleeves. âAnd I wanted to protect him from you.â
âIs that so?â he asked coolly. âIs that for his sake? Or your own?â
âWhat kind of question is that?â She rinses out the rice. âYouâd just take advantage of him. Komaeda-kun would only consent because he felt pressured to. So, itâd be for...his sake.â
His sake. Nothing else.
Not even her racing pulse and thoughts.
âInform me when you change your mind,â Kamukura says. âI will make the arrangements once you do.â
As if itâs already set in stone. The kind of situation you canât prematurely quit, much less start over.
As Nanami sets the cooker, she already feels a vicious bubbling in her gut.
It boils over and thenâ
She turns on her heel. Without another word, she hurries.
--
âOh, Nanami-san! Is cooking already done?â
As usual, Komaeda is all smiles and cheer.
âAs expected of the collaborative efforts of two Ultimates!â he exclaims, pink-cheeked with relief.
He worried about us, she realized. He looks happy enough to cry.
What face would he make if he knew what we were discussing? What we were considering?
...scary.
She didnât think that liking someone could be so, so unpleasant. Where did things go so wrong?
If Hinata-kun were still here...
She wouldnât be this close to Komaeda in the first place. Kamukura Izuru wouldnât exist. Sheâd just be off playing games with Hinata without care. Laughing and smiling and basking in his attention while Komaeda would be...
In this lovely, lonely house, she thinks. All by himself.
...
I have to protect him.
âI was just checking up on you,â she said, and she steps forward to take his hands and squeeze. Komaedaâs face colors a little more. He stares at her with wonder and confusion. A moment like this would be a romance flag, and that only made her feel unsteadier. Despite that, she gripped his hands tightly.
Sheâll do whatever it takes to protect him.
Except... Komaeda-kun might need protection from me, I think.
