Ouch. Ow damn crap! You gently put some weight on your ankle but then retract. The pain is too much. You’ll either have to crawl home or make this your new home. Neither sound great. You are in the mountains. Heights and you? Uh hell no. Even being on elevated ground is upsetting. What if you fall? Or trip? Walking with your team and getting close to the ledge you nearly passed out.
It’s okay. You told yourself at the time. Just focus on what is ahead. But what was in front of you didn’t do much to fault your fluster. Kakashi. A calm aloof man who has no business looking as good as he does. You like many other girls have a crush on him. How exactly can you not? From his confidence in battle to his calm alluring voice there’s just too much to love!
Then you got separated. Your crippling fear of heights keeping you from doing your job to the fullest. You scrambled back to the safety of a thicker landscape to stand on. Away from the plummet below. Hell no. Unfortunately you weren’t alone on this thick piece of land. A couple of rogues found you. You fought.
During the scuffle your ankle got struck by the heavy metal arm guard one was wearing. The adrenaline and focus staved off the pain during the fight. But the moment the drug left your body you collapsed. Your foot would not really obey. It is a little… floppy. You though maybe you could walk on it. You wrapped it tight with tensor bandages. With a little bit of rigidity back maybe you could try.
But nope. You are now ole flop foot. Your ankle is shattered and you can’t walk on it. You have no summons big enough to carry you. Your teammate is somewhere on this mountain but not close to you. Some protocols suggest you stay put. Others say to try and keep going. But what? You gonna roll like a sausage down the mountain? It won’t even be the right way. You have to cross a bridge over a scary wide gap on the ledge of the mountain and ain’t no way you rolling across that. Nu uh. Fuck that. You’d rather survive here and become a mountain girl who stuck to one section of mountain than see that rickety old unsafe bridge again.
“There you are.”
Heat instantly rises to your face. Kakashi? You look up from your ole floppy foot to see a small pug poof away and his master standing close by. Kakashi found you. His pretty dark eye shuts in an affectionate gesture.
“I was wondering where you went. Nice job with the rogues.”
“Thanks…”
It’s then he sees you cradling your foot. It’s obvious it’s damaged. The bandages and your toes are swelling from the trauma is a give away. Kakashi knelt down close beside you to inspect. For a moment your hazy pain fades. He smells really good. He’s so close you can feel his warmth. He gently looks over your leg.
“You shouldn’t put any pressure on that. It looks bad.”
“But how do we get back?”
“Easy.” He pauses and smiles. “I’ll have to carry you.”
Your heart may very well have just burst into confetti. Kakashi takes your pack off the ground and slings it on his back. Before you could wonder how he’s going to carry you, his hands slid under your body. Oh gosh! If any more blood rushed to your head you’d be dead. He lifts you off the ground with no problems. It’s like you weigh like a feather to him. Your arm naturally wrapped around the back of his neck for support.
“Sorry.” You find yourself saying.
“For what?”
“Being a burden. This isn’t exactly how I thought our mission would go and you have to carry me back for three days.”
“No mission ever goes how we picture. Just be glad you are alive.”
You nod. That is a fair assessment of the situation. You aren’t dead. You are being cradled by your crush. Held close and secure in his embrace. He takes you away. His carry is light and careful. Kakashi isn’t jostling you.
Now for the worst. That unstable old bridge. You barely survived the first time. And that was one step at a time watching the back of Kakashi’s head, refusing to look down. Your legs were tingling and heart in your throat. It felt like you would burst apart at any moment. Or plummet to an untimely death.
You dare peek out from staring at his chest. Your heart sinks to the bottom of the canyon. There’s no bridge no more. What? Where?! Where the fuck?!
“It was cut down by the rogues. Sorry i couldn’t come earlier I had to set up a new way to cross safety.” He explains.
You dare glance down. A rope. A single tight rope. No. Oh no no no!
“It’s alright. I have great balance.” Kakashi assures you. “Just shut your eyes and I’ll tell you when it’s over.”
You clutch onto Kakashi tight enough to crush something. No way! You are going to fall and die! His steady steps got shaky. The bit of slack on the rope making him find his balance point. His other foot left the solid earth. Only a step in and he’s free of the ground. You are still. Stiff. Terrified.
Kakashi remained on the first step as he waited for you to find the perfect place. Your face nuzzled into his chest. It’s hard not to smile. You’re very adorable. A shinobi as successful as you has a fear. It ain’t bad having you here. Holding him tightly. Feeling safe with him. Trusting him enough to carry you across the gap.
“Just breathe.” He advised.
You whimper. He takes more steps. One after the other. His body barely swaying. He knows his balance and knows how to adjust it. You are doing just fine. Clinging to him. You aren’t shaking. You are trying to stay still as the gap is slowly crossed. If you are the reason for your demise and his you would never forgive yourself. You’d remain a ghost forever, never able to move on.
“You’re doing great.” He said. “I’m half way.”
“Don’t stop!” You reply in a shaky voice.
You don’t fathom the thought of peeking. No way. You are keeping your face nuzzled into his chest where it is safe. You aren’t where you are right now. You are on your couch. On your couch nuzzled up to him. On solid ground. Comfortable. Cozy. Safe. You are safe.
Crunch…
The sound of dirt? You dare look beyond the tight fistful of his shirt you have. You see Kakashi’s foot. Under it is the earth. Oh? Oh thank god! You look up at him. He is calm. He didn’t break a sweat. You sigh out your tension. The pain returned. You cringe as your leg throbs again.
“Nice job.” He said.
“A-Aren’t I suppose to tell you that?”
“I’ve walked across higher tight ropes. That was nothing.”
Alas it was more enjoyable with you clutching to him. You are pretty cute all flustered and afraid. It’s just so not you. You’re so serious and to the point usually that seeing you all frazzled was kinda totally adorable. You sigh again and rest your cheek on his chest. You shut your eyes. Safe. Very safe.
Kakashi continued on, grinning to himself. You are just adorable. Perhaps when you are back on your feet he’ll ask you out. It’s long over do. A pretty girl like you deserves a nice date after a crappy day like this! Of course he’ll pick something nice. Somewhere grounded and far from ledges.
