I don't really see Itachi finding the first one that funny when his pup is so small though, I think he's a bit sensitive in that part of his life and he doesn't get the joke 100%. He would definitely find it funnier once the baby is past the first six months. I actually imagined Chouji giggling and shaking his head at this joke. Naruto and Kiba would like it too. And honestly, I think the humour would get to Sasuke as well, cutting through some of the complicated feelings around having a baby, if only for a moment.

 Neji hated being stared at like this. Each pair of eyes went through a wave of emotions as they scanned his presence for longer than a few seconds. Surprise, curiosity, perplexed…whatever kind of synonym someone would use for a combination of words to describe his current situation. It’s true a few days ago he had asked Tenten out for lunch, however he did not bank on being invited to have lunch with her own crew. Actually, I should’ve expected this, he groaned to himself. Just them having lunch one-on-one wasn’t enough to complete the assignment; they needed both perspectives. Tenten had shot him a text message that morning telling him to meet her by her locker for lunch.

 Yes, he had gotten her number. Actually, she had given it to him after they had returned to school the other day. Tenten had returned from her room and found Neji chatting stiffly with her father in the living room. She had stayed in the staircase for a bit, just listening to the Hyuga awkwardly attempt to explain the assignment to her father as the co-owner of the Hua fashion company asked him what compelled him to have lunch with his daughter. Neji spoke slowly and clearly…very formally as well. Tenten watched as he stood firmly and kept eye contact with her father. A smirk had formed on her face as they spoke. Her father was more interested in how they were paired up…if he had chosen to be her partner. Neji had let loose a scoff, however swiftly apologized after seeing her father’s curious reaction as he exasperatedly explained that they were paired by their teacher. His genuine expression of discontent was obvious, which is why she gave him her number. He really wasn’t trying to suck up to her, or even try to act as if he wanted to be around her. 

The drive back to schools was quiet, as Neji had realized he had made an ass of himself with his disgruntled reaction he had failed to hide when it came to mentioning Tenten to her father…What a fucking idiot…Neji had mentally kicked himself for not controlling his face well enough. The older Hua did not seem offended, and continued to indulge him in conversation, so he guessed it wasn’t that bad of an interaction. However, he was settled in that he had made an impression somehow on the older Hua-whether it was good or not. Either way, Tenten had stopped him before they left the car, demanding that he hand his other phone unlocked. Before he could question her, she snatched it from him and inputted her number into his contact list and proceeded to text herself from his phone so she would have his number as well. He had stared at the new contact listing for quite a while for the rest of the day, wrapping around the fact that he had introduced himself to her father and got her personal number in the same day. He was sure it was her personal number and not her work number due to the picture that had popped up (as they had the same brand of phone, so it synced the contacts).

Favorite thing about him:

His character growth. Like he was able to grow as a person and acknowledge that he was in fact a jerk for so long, and he does try to better himself. Like I can’t help but be proud of him for that 🥹 (he’s also strong and very pretty)

Least favorite thing about him:

I mean, other than his death in canon, it really seemed like after his fight with Naruto he basically just… fell into that “I’m a branch member and that’s all I’ll ever be” mindset which is just… so sad to see. He fought against it for so long, and I really feel like he could have continued on without, ya know, being the way he was pre chunin exams.

It really shows when he’s interacting with Hinata. This is not her fault AT ALL, in fact I think she’d rather he not treat her like she’s above him. But she likely doesn’t have the heart to, or he doesn’t listen, or some other third thing.

It just sucks SO MUCH to see him say how he’s “finally free” when it seems like he actually just closed his own cage and called it freedom.

Now this could have been like, an excellent character arc for him. To overcome this new barrier he made for himself of going to the other extreme of his previous philosophy. But I guess that would require Kishi caring about Neji as a character instead of just a disposable plot device.

Favorite line:

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

Though special shout out to him saying “Get lost.” To Ino in the forest of death during the chunin exams. That line delivery kills me every time.

BrOTP:

Honestly love his dynamic with the rest of team Gai. I know I know what an original thought, but I love how well he compliments Lee’s hyperactive personality, and how he has Tenten to turn to when he’s finally at the end of his rope with Lee and Gai LOL!

Cats love him. They’re attracted to his calm personality. Sometimes they’ll follow him around the village, sit on his lap while he’s meditating, etc. asking for pets. And yes he will give it to them and might even smile a little hehehehe

Idk I guess the fact that I often pair him with a woman who isn’t Tenten?
