Hi there. Is me. I am having Feelings about this Fuck Song, especially these two lines:

眉间点血，衣上牡丹 The blood-red dot between his brows, the peony on his clothes

愈笑愈孤寒 The more laughter there is, the more cold loneliness there is as well

(I’m no hunxi-guilai, and despite being a native speaker, am very, very Literal when it comes to my translations. Basically, would not be a good translator. Bear with me.)

The first line of lyrics obviously refer to Lanling Jinshi’s cultivators, but more specifically, Jin Zixuan.

The second refers to Wei Wuxian’s propensity for Laughing The Pain Away and -sips from mug while flames crackle- “This Is Fine.”

HOWEVER. I put it to you that this could be dissected more vividly, as the two lines are stacked one over the other. Think of the second line not solely in relativity to Wei Wuxian’s pretenses: The bigger the sacrifice he decides to make, the bigger he smiles through the pain.

Rather, think of it also in a chronological sense: The more he used to laugh, the more love -- and whatever other explosive emotions there were in those times when he was carefree -- he held, even after he turned his back on them all by becoming the Yiling Laozu. The more people there are in your life, who made you feel -- simply feel at all -- the lonelier you are once they are yanked away. The more you feel your isolation.

Wei Wuxian may not have liked Jin Zixuan, but in the end, he played an important part in his life -- and certainly did not deserve to die painfully, right in front of him.
