Heehee, thanks!
18. Are you musical? Play any instruments or sing? Would you ever perform for an audience?
Okay, so...
Once upon a time, I was a good singer. Not a great one, untrained, but I had a decent voice and could carry a tune with a good enough quality that, yes, I have performed in front of people, multiple times. I sang at my high school graduation, have been in talent shows, and I've sung at family events, including my grandparents' 50th weeding anniversary. I enjoy singing, a lot. Or, I did.
When I was in my mid-20s/early-30s, I had a few things happen that kinda trashed my voice. 1) My now-ex-husband worked at a store that catered to babies, and was constantly bringing home baby germs, I think I had a cold for a third to half the year at one point, and I didn't sing while sick because a) it sounded terrible, and b) it's kinda hurt/isn't really good for your voice. 2) I fell into depression, and singing just didn't interest me for a long time. Because of these two things, I didn't sing much at all for a few years, and that kinda ruined my range. I still sing nice enough, but my voice sounds rougher, my range isn't as wide, and I don't know if I'm being hyper-critical of myself or not, but I feel like I just can't carry a tune as well as I used to, and I can hear the difference, and it sucks. I still do sing quite a bit -- in the car, when I'm at work, whatever -- but I'm not as good as I used to be. I'm quite good at finding the harmony, though, and I don't have much problem singing counterpoint, either. I'd still get up in front of a crowd and sing, because I'm not ashamed/self-conscious of my voice (except when I hit a sour note).
Also, I had piano lessons when I was really little, and I was in the pit in marching band for a year (before moving to color guard/dancing), which is the non-mobile percussion section, and I'm still okay at that. Can only read sheet music very slowly, so I have to learn a song in order to play it, rather than just read the music and play along on the first go.
