for minor context, I’m thinking that part of Ellie’s character arc is that she slowly goes from a rather judgey individual to someone, well, less judgey…. ((So, note: any time I talk about Ellie in this post, I’m most likely referring to earlier in her character arc specifically)) + “Hostess” is VERY much a mask/persona for a rather flawed individual (although I guess you could argue that it’s the “persona” that’s she created that’s flawed?? But I digress)

And like….. I doooooo feel like they are/were both judgey both in very similar yet very different ways??? (Idk if hostess is very “judgey” but gahh it’s a lot to explain. And either way her relationship to the concept of judging people is interesting)

I feel like for the most part Hostess is just. Dismissive? Like she cares very very deeply for her friends ofc, but “Hostess” is supposed to be Harley’s escape and such, so obviously she’s not going to want to face certain things that arise. and so she, again, kind of just puts on this super bubbly and “quirky” Hostess persona for the most part. BUT, main point being that sometimes, if you are being a genuine a genuine twat, she WILL kind of “cut the act” and rather bluntly tell you to knock it off. Other times it might just come off as a quick passive aggressive thing. I think it really depends on the situation tbh.

Meanwhile with Ellie… I feel like it’s a lot different. I’m ngl, I only have one real point of reference to go off (so I haven’t entirely developed how she would act in other situations), that being when she first met Hostess — which isn’t exactly in the very beginning of the story lmao. Hostess was built up to be rather intimidating (being the head of theatre and all), and so when Ellie finally met her, she INSTANTLY went “oh god she’s weird af” and was probably like “ew get me out of here I don’t wanna be with this weird ass theatre kid”. But she still remained more or less awkwardly polite given the situation (although tbf she might’ve just been too stunned to speak lmao). But in other situations, I dooooo feel like Ellie would be more likely to bluntly tell people that she thinks they’re weird??? Especially if they won’t stop talking to her and are being annoying af. She might “politely” try to inch away from the conversation, but again, she would eventually “snap” a bit I think. Especially if she’s already frustrated (which happens a LOT in DTS I think). She would also 100% gossip with her best friend about annoying stuff that happened to her, although it might be partially a vent and such.

And again I find that so interesting?? The differences and similarities?? Mainly because them both being judgemental was unintentional. Like idk if Ellie would go OUT OF HER WAY to be an ass, but again I don’t think she would go out of her way to hide it either. Meanwhile with hostess, although she 100% does occasionally snap, again, 99% of the time I do feel like she tries to ignore it, etc.

Like if Hostess was stuck in an annoying/boring/etc conversation with someone, would just most likely grin and bear it, while Ellie would, again, probably eventually just cut you off or something. I feel like Ellie’s tolerance/annoyance meter would be lower than Hostesses — again meaning that she gets actively annoyed by people more easily (while hostess would get overwhelmed/overstimulated but ignore it/potentially not even recognise that she’s overwhelmed), BUTTT I also feel like Ellie’s reaction to things that DO genuinely bother her would be far less than Hostess when Hostess snaps? Like if someone was being annoying arsehat, Ellie probably WOULD snap at them a bit… and if it was TOO bad, then ngl I don’t entirely know how Ellie would react??? Actually, I feel like if the situation got too out of hand, Ellie would actually back off tbh. Like she would quickly realise “oh no this person is a loonie” and be intimidated. Meanwhile, if it got to THAT point, if Hostess was there, she would 100% RIP into them, yk?? or like if someone was being weird, Ellie might be too stunned to even really know HOW to react, but Hostess would IMEDIETLY be on their arse lmao.

Actually FUCK. that would be such a neat scene. Idk if I can fit it into the story though 🤔🤔

Anyways I think I’ve said all I wanted to say???

Oh wait actually one of my main points was just how I found it interesting that usually, Ellie’s judgement would be more external and obvious and common while Hostess’s would be FAR less externally common but more servere (or at the very least passive agressive if it’s more subtle)… and yeah

OH AND. One more point. I feel like that despite all that, I feel like hostess wouldn’t actually be super judging of people for “random” stuff??? Like Ellie would actively judge you for being a nerd , but if Hostess judged you for something random like that (especially something you can’t control) I feel like it would be more of an intrusive/impulsive thought in some cases??? Like I feel like Hostess would be more accepting. But then at the same time, part of me DOESSSS say that she’s the type to randomly hold a grudge, not tell you, and instead make occasional comments HINTING at the fact that she doesn’t like you…. So… hmmm 🤔🤔🤔 maybe they ARE both judgemental?? Idk.
