Honestly, I think it's dependent on her partner and how they make her feel. With more masculine partners, she definitely falls into the submissive/pillow princess role. With more feminine partners, she's willing to top.

I think her emotional/mental state also plays a part. When she trusts someone, she will fully allow herself to be a submissive pillow princess. If she doesn't trust her partner fully, she wants to be dominant.

If Azula is bisexual and in a heterosexual relationship in your hc, I think she'd be totally submissive with Aang because of his peaceful aura and grudgingly submissive with Sokka.

I view Azula as someone who uses sex as a relaxer, and since she always attempts to control every other, sex would be the one place she wants to relax. Azula is also a people pleaser with a knack for praise, so submission is her happy place when she feels safe.

This is clearly not the Azula that she would let anyone see, but throughout the story, I try and use a lot of symbolism around WOLVES and DOGS. While wolves represent the worst, most sharp-fanged versions of these characters, dogs represent that desire to be loved and to be wanted. Leashes come up a lot too, the things that tie and bind us. Sometimes we beg for a leash, sometimes we thrash against them.

And man, this song is just so heartbreaking. It's beautiful, it's codependent, it's an impossible ask of anyone. Dog imagery for Azula feels very apt to me, I'm curious if you all have any other recommendations for songs that resonate with you for her! Please share!

Azula Week 2022 - Day 1: Burn

Some say fire is the element of passion. Others say it is destruction, or it is life. They aren't wrong. But Azula holds that fire is, at it's core, about control.

Azula alternates between seeing June as a useful tool to track down her enemies, her wifey, her opponent, irritating af, hot af, her sugar mama, and her ride. Although I think June being her ride is usually the main one 😂

June loves to tease Azula, like more than I think anyone has ever teased her. Everytime she does something too princess-y, June is on her ass about it. Azula in turn teases June about being a general hooligan getting into bar fights. In a deeper way though, June wants Azula to loosen up and go easier on herself and Azula wants June to strive for greater things.

Azula does not drink or smoke… but June does in abundance. Azula gets mad because June makes her hair stink of smoke but she’ll always light her pipe for her with a little firebending when she asks 😌

I see them both as tops so the power struggle is real lol! But probably with Azula more on the taking side and more selfish and June more on the giving side.

June is ~10 years older and takes on a bit of a mentor role and shows Azula that life exists outside of the expectations of dynasty and family. At the same time though she totally eggs her on to be bad in little ways like lying, cheating, and stealing 😈

I think they both enjoy being the hottie baddie couple and being girlfriend twins. Azula is way more jealous though… she is jealous both in a possessive way and jealous of the attention June gets.

Azula carries a lot of trauma around being paralyzed/immobilized (from Ty Lee during Boiling Rock and Katara during the finale). Once she’s hit by Nyla, it triggers a lot and it’s a big part of their shifting power dynamic as June does know she has this over her.

June considers flipping the table and making a run for it; Nyla waits just out back. “So,” she says instead. “What do you want? Here to arrest me?” She pours Katara her cup and slides it over.

Katara smirks and smug does not suit her. “Actually, I have a job for you.”

June and Azula take a trip, 12 years after the finale.

“Keep quiet.” June drags the needlepoint along the soft swell of her throat. “And don’t call for help.” And although Azula quits her thrashing, the heat ratchets between them. Cautiously, June lifts her hand and Azula’s smile flutters out from beneath it like a barracuda butterfly’s razor-wings slicing the air into strips. “You missed me,” Azula says then.

June and Azula take a trip 12 years after the finale.
