Types of Music Each Character Listens To
Aang likes all music, as long as it doesn't contain violence. His favorite genre would probably be leftist country music, think "This Land Is Your Land, Take Me Home Country Roads, and 9 to 5. I feel he'd also like Smile by Lil Duval and Snoop Dogg.
Toph LOVES rap music. Violence or not, she loves the rawness of it. She loves female rap because it reminds her of herself, a bad ass girl who does what she wants. Her favs are Megan Thee Stallion, NWA, Tupac, Stunna Girl, Doechii, Gucci Mane, and really songs that mention confidence and knowing you're the shit. She also likes 2000s rock, thinks Limp Bizkit, Drowning Pool, Bikini Kill, Joan Jett, and Le Tigre
Sokka likes 2000s rock. Think Teenage Dirtbag, My Own Worst Enemy, Scotty Don't Know. He'll also listen to indie artists like Chase Atlantic, The Neighborhood, Cigarettes After Sex, Arctic Monkeys, and Tame Impala.
Katara listens to Mitski, beabadoobee, TV Girl, BoA, Clairo, and Pink Pantheress. She won't admit it, but she loves Toph's female rap playlist. She listens to it in secret and will profusely deny listening to Stunna Girl.
Zuko is very obvious in his music taste. MCR, Linkin Park, Deftones, Nirvana, Pierce the Veil, and Panic! At The Disco. He also listens to 80s music, such as DeBarge, Tears for Fears, Billy Joel, Queen, Crowded House, Earth, Wind & Fire, Whitney Houston, and Michael Jackson, because of Uncle Iroh.
Mai listens to bands and artists The Cure, Paramore, Lana Del Rey, Heart, Deftones, ATARASHII GAKKO!, The Cramps, Julia Wolf, Sisters of Mercy, and Bauhaus. She loves everything goth and rock. She occasionally listens to 90s R&B, such as TLC, SWV, Aaliyah, Brandy, and Monica, because that's what her mom and aunt played when they were growing up. I hear that Michi, Mai's mom, was a teenager who was in an arranged marriage to an older noble, Ukano, so she and Mai grew up together in a way. Mai pretty much gets all her gothic and R&B music taste from her mother.
Suki listens to a mix of Toph and Ty Lee. She loves female rap, it makes her feel empowered asf. Don't play Megan Thee Stallion around her unless you want to see her turn into a different person. She loves Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, Doechii, Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, Camila Cabello, Doja Cat, Lakeyah, Stunna Girl, and Rihanna. She loves a good concert and goes to as many as she can.
Ty Lee listens to pop and female rap music. She loves Chappel Roan, Doja Cat, Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, Lakeyah, Charli XCX, Zara Larsson, Camila Cabello, Tate McCrae, KATSEYE, Ke$ha, Rihanna, and Ariana Grande. She loves to turn up and feel good.
Azula listens to sad girl, soft rock, and alternative bands on the regular. Lana Del Rey, Suki Waterhouse, Mistki, TV Girl, Cults, Pink Pantheress, Cigarettes After Sex, Deftones, Paramore, Flyleaf, The Clash, The Cardigans, Liana Flores, Big Thief, and The Marias. She also listens to music from the 1960s and 1970s, think Connie Francis, The Ronettes, Brenda Lee, The Daughters of Eve, Lesley Gore, The Temptations, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Julie London, Player, Bill Withers, Fleetwood Mac, Ambrosia, ABBA, and The Mamas and the Papas. She gets her 60s and 70s music taste from Ozai. He definitely gives off vibes that he listens to the oldies, *Cough, Cough, Mommy Issues*. She also listens to Chappel Roan, Hayley Kiyoko, girl in red, t.A.T.u if she needs to express her repressed homosexuality.
Iroh loves 60s, 70, and 80s music. He gives the vibe that he was a '60s child, a '70s teen, and an '80s young adult. He plays the oldies in his tea shop all the time. Artists and Bands like Ella Fitzgerald, ABBA, The Ronettes, The Mamas and The Papas, Ambrosia, James Brown, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Bob Dylan, The Rah Band, Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Queen, Debarge, Whitney Houston, Fleetwood Mac, The Gap Band, Bobby Brown, Teena Marie, Minnie Riperton, Gloria Gaynor, Donna Summer, Tears for Fears, Sade. He thinks Zuko's music taste can be a little depressing, but he loves the song New Perspective. Zuko secretly plays the song more often around Uncle Iroh because of this.
Ozai likes oldies, as previously stated. He listens to The Ronettes, Brenda Lee, Lesley Gore, The Temptations, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Julie London, Player, Bill Withers, The Mamas and the Papas, The Flamingos, Ricky Nelson, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, Patsy Cline, Dionne Warwick. I hc that Iroh told him when he was young he would always listen to 60s music because it was soothing to him and a palace staff member told his mother did the same and it stuck with him ever since.
Ursa basically has the same music taste as Azula because of her own upbringing and Ozai...she's a sad girl. I hc that Ozai put her on to a lot of oldies and when they first started dating, the music always played during good times like dates, slow dances, and sex. It's difficult for her because she hates that Ozai is connected to everything of hers, even her music taste.
