I GOT MY WISH HOLY SHIT THIS EPISODE IS ULTRA SUPER TRAGIC CHIKANE TO THE MAX

also it shows why Himeko is actually...uh... i wanna say, desirable? till now my impression of her was mostly her own: that she’s weak, shy and incompetent and faints all the fucking time 

this is actually also Souma’s impression of her, he loves her BECAUSE he wants to(/THROUGH the impulse of wanting to) make sure that she can be happy, not suffering, not crying, as she is and was prone to, with her abusive parent and her insecurities. The most important part about her to him is her weakness, in a way. He truly is her protector first, which comes from a deeply held desire to keep her from suffering.

but through Chikane’s eyes Himeko is something entirely different. She is not weak or shy. Himeko is literally the light of her life, Himeko is comfort and warmth and human connection, after years and years of Chikane being treated like a distant moon by everybody in her life. Chikane wants that - Himeko - for HERSELF. To Chikane, Himeko’s most important part is her beautiful and warm soul. In a sense it’s a lot more selfish, but also a lot more ...wonderful.

especially when contrasted with Chikane’s concerted and HORRIBLY tragic efforts to stifle her feelings and facilitate Souma’s and Himeko’s romance.

Surely his charming Trickster persona isn’t just a facade? It is an aspect of him? Just like the Punisher is? Anger, hellfire and pain-dealing?

Hmmm. so i spose. The devil and his demons deal with sinners already condemned to hell. They just deal out the punishment they feel appropriate to the evil. They judge but don’t ultimately condemn. Humans are shitty in Hell and there’s not much use for anything but the punisher aspect of the devil. The trickster is a facade for live humans in the world. The emotional understanding of the devil of wrong-doing was always theoretical and after the fact.

In the world humans are still in flux and condemning them is not the devil’s prerogative... Theoretical empathy is baked into the devil. And so is the lack of it at the appropriate moments so he can cause people suffering (basically always in hell). Now empathy has become practical. He’s dealing with humans not yet condemned, and who are not completely in his power (well, one).

It was never his intention to follow his punisher script and duty in the world, and when he falls back on it he is confonted with the fact that it is not his role to condemn or punish because he is not in power and the humans are not his to condemn.

Clearly Luci has personal attachments (which i think makes sense from christian mythology - something about Love and Lucifer and falling) so it’s not strange that he would ‘care’ for people.

Honestly it’s surprising to me that Maze and the Angel are saying: you’re changing fundamentally !!

Yeah duh he’s changing but he’s changing in worldview, not fundamentally at his core. Lucifer free of duty is not the same in teh world as in Hell. Empathy, love and a sense of eye-for-an-eye justice was always part of him. (so he would never needlessly hurt others, he can care, and he would never randomly kick a puppy like he says). Though he is all about desire and therefore does do things for selfish reasons mainly, all of the above has always been part of him.

AND HOLY SHIT IT WAS AMAZING IT WAS JUST INCREDIBLE

ghostbusters (2016)

great pacing, some hilarious moments, actually hit the emotional snare just right with Erin’s ghost experience and being bullied and therapy

and holtzman flirting with Erin blatantly like? there wasn’t even anything to the dance and the wink? it was just in there

Erin hilariously crushing on Kevin. (ILLEGAL!! ‘you’re all sweaty’ PERFECT comedic timing ahahahaha)

the interesting thing about this is that the ghosts are actually SCARY AS FUCK but they look so cartoony almost.

honestly the whole end-fight on giant scale was meh. It really did make the ghosts too cartoony to land any sense of danger. the pacing was also shot to bits. them shreddign small ghosts was pretty cool.

they could have made the comparison between Rowan and Erin/Abby/Holz more explicit - them not turning to human genocide after being bullied

The whole thing with Kevin-Rowan was uh... meh. His light-hearted and comical delivery really didn’t help with raising the stakes. And Kevin afterwards too was very meh. Being so self-satisfied and the ghostbusters too...condescending... and the end was kind of weak... about the hearses...

Phil never came back - Erin shrugged him and everything he represented off halfway the movie? The whole thing about wanting recognition? that wasn’t very tidily resolved...though the comparison to batman was neat

the latter part of teh series would have been a lot more convincing if emma and jack had actually been shown to be as heartbroken over losing izzy as izzy was over losing them?

at least a little closer in feelings

and if there were more hugs

like even the end of the last episode does not end in them running into each other’s arms :(

somehow their attachment to her seems like an afterthought to the drama of their lives

which i despise.

are there more hugs in season 2..?

like they’re just ....nurturing a crush and izzy is in love. does she like us? does she like me?

declan or whatever his name is has all the makings of a really annoying male character though

but he’s not overtly so in the first ep

i just hope that his attraction to Dutch is N E V E R reciprocated but i am reminded of that post about the feeling of the encroaching het couple like a cloud of doom rolling in

his little smirks and tough tough man bravado + dark backstory that haunts him are just ughghhghg
