alternatives to: New Years Resolutions
if you are going to do new years resolutions:
Make sure that your goals are precise as possible. Here's sorta like a rubric to doing SMART goals:
S- make it specific as possible
M- how will you measure it? In time?
R- is it realistic? Is it attainable
T- time based. How will it play out?
I've personally stopped doing yearly goals and started doing monthly goals. I always have a monthly spread in my planner and I decide some goals (no more than 5 goals! don't overload) based on my expectations of the month. Here's some steps on making those monthly goals:
What you expect overall: maybe you want a good gpa towards the end of the year
How you will achieve: ending up with only A's and B's. Maybe you don't have a strong grade in a certain class.
Dig deep: for example, I have a huge chem midterm! Therefore, my priority for this month is to study for the midterm since it makes up 30% of my grade for this grading period.
Make sure to have 5 or less goals: make sure they are achievable by the end of the month. Don't make them all school related (I recommend) and have some personal milestones.
What habits do you want to start for the new year?
I recommend doing some habits that are related to what you want to do in future or that will benefit you.
For example, I aspire to be a writer. Therefore, in my case I would improve my writing. Even try to compete in writing competitions.
Another example is trying to take better care of yourself. Maybe by washing your face twice a day is a habit you want to start often as possible.
TRY TO BREAK UP THE HABIT INTO SMALLER GOALS.
expectations for the year:
What do you expect for this new year?
(Some can be personal, but the advantage of doing expectations is that some don't have to rely on you !! )
For example, one expectation is for a renewal for a tv show you love. Or expect for a law that you have advocating for to be passed.
I hope everyone has a good year! (Sorry this is late)
