My interpretations of Gunnlod, Jord, and Rindr jotun ladies who were screwed over Odin (mainly talking Gunnlod and Rindr there isn’t much about Jord so it’s unclear what her relationship with Odin was like ).

*I’ve seen this touched on in several fics, but never fully written out.

I think the reason jotuns are able to survive in freezing climates is that they’ve evolved to leech heat from the atmosphere around them. So, they’re essentially like big cold sponges just sucking up warmth wherever they go and using it to warm their core organs.

This is why they’re so sensitive to hot temperatures and are very susceptible to overheating. It is a very efficient biological system, though, because most jotuns almost never leave their ice planet, and when they do, it’s only very briefly. Loki, on the other hand, is a special case. He was raised in a very warm realm, and when he was young I think this probably caused him a TON of problems. Like constant heat strokes, his parents having to cast temporary spells to keep him cool, etc etc.

But gradually, as he started to grow from a toddler to a child, those problems stopped. This is because, as he began to be able to control his magic, his body subconsciously started to adapt to the climate it was in by beginning to convert that thermal energy into magical energy. This just served to make his powers stronger.

Now, Loki obviously softened on his frost giant heritage somewhere between the end of Thor 1 and Ragnarok. After he knew he was jotun and had time to sit and think about it, he would’ve realised about this whole heat/magic conversion situation. And I think that is what broke him out of his cycle of internalised racism.

Biology

he can’t sweat so his body regulates temperature by making more fluids. aka loki drools/spits alot

his veins are purpley blue instead of the normal blue

they are all androgynous, they are a shapeshifting race therefore they can manipulate their own biology if they want. this counts for wantingto have children and can they can also choose which partner in the relationship carries the child.

They have an organ that regulates their temperature, it’s adapted to cold but it also allows them to survive warm temperatures. (Loki’s is more flexible considering he’s half aesir)

their magic allows them to feel natire and animals. they can feel life flowing through it = they can feel and understand what the life wants, needs or feels

Beliefs/Culture

they’re not as monsterous as they seem. (why would they leave a baby IN A TEMPLE??? A TEMPLE which means “a building devoted to the worship, or regarded as the dwelling place, of a god or gods or other objects of religious reverence” why would they leave loki AND the casket there? if they hadnt cared about loki he wouldve been left out in the frozen tundras to die AKA. Jotuns leave their children in the temple during battle, hoping Ymir will protect their children while they’re away

Jotuns believe everyone has a purpose or gift (fighters, healers, workers, farmers, blacksmiths etc etc) and their marks (coming from their magic) depicts what their gift is.

They have clans. Wolf and Snake, you inherit your clan from your mother and the clans are important. If you are a wolf you can not marry another wolf and vice versa. If a wolf passes away, other wolves cannot help at their funeral, the snakes have to do it and vice versa (same with weddings)

They have a tribal government with a little council with Elders, Youth, Snake, Wolf and War councillors, the chief, There are healers on the council as well. The council makes decisions together and decides the fate of their people. They also decide sentences for people who break their laws.

They all switch jobs, no one is stuck doing one thing, everyone helps.

They do not have a hierarchy, everyone is equal. They have meetings several times a year to hear the peoples input, complaints and worries. The king is equal with his people, he makes important decisions and is important but not more important than anyone else.

They do not like fighting unless it’s necessary = Loki’s dislike of fighting.

They believe everything has life, everything can feel (because of their magic) so they treat everything down from a piece of grass like it’s gold.

Jotunheim

Jotunheim has springs. Plants grow and the waters unfreeze, they go trapping, the springs are short so they spend the entire time gardening, fishing and trapping to save for the winters.

There are Glaciers and forests, rivers and creeks. It’s like any other planet except it’s cold and theres alot of snow.

So this is my take on Jotun anatomy about Male carryers (Bearers if you will). Not all male Jotuns can carry, only some. Yes, there are female Jotuns. Laufey is carrying Helblindi in the photo of him wearing the cloak and in the last one he is carrying Bylester. Laufey covers up more while carrying.

Alright, so I've done this assessment on my own, for my fics. And it's directly based on the first Thor movie. (Not counting What If)

There are scenes where Thor and Loki face them in Jotunheim and Asgard, and from that, it's just estimates, estimates and estimates. 😅

I think they range from 9ft to 11ft max. Individual heights would vary, of course.

I consider Thor and Loki to be taller than average humans too, like around 7ft.

Whenever they face the Jotuns, they stand about 2-3 heads shorter than them.
