What do you mean this wasn't exactly what happened in book 4?
John: William?
Will: Yes, it's me. Your son. And it's "Will", Dad.
John: No. "William". I named you.
Will: You ruined my life!
John: How could I ruin your life?! I wasn't even there!
Fictober day 56
prompt number 21. What did I say?
Mirrorworld fanfiction
âWhat did I say?â
âPleeeeeeaseâ Yelled the kid, bouncing up and down on his booster seat on the rear seat.
âJacob!â
âBut you promised you would have done something GREAT for my birthday!â Exclaimed him, pressing his nose against the car window.
Yes, he had
âI havenât forgotten itâ said John Reckless, smiling.
âREALLY?â Asked the little Jake, his eyes full of adventures as only a six-years-old could be. They had left Rosamund and Will at home, his younger son was too little for that kind ofâŚexperience.
And Rosamund didnât totally approve it, but she hadnât said anything. Probably because it was a dream, for her, to see her husband. John was proud of her loyalty, and hided his shame under piles of lies. He had passed a long time away from home.
âWhere are we going, then?â
âItâs a surprise, I canât tell youâ
âPlease?â
âNoâ
âThis isnât right!â
âBut you love surprises!â Chuckled John, without noticing how his childâs eyes had darkened at those words.
Jacob murmured something, pointing his eyes towards the window.
âWhat?â
âWhen will you disappear again?â OH
âNot soon⌠I had someâŚthings for work to get done andâŚâ
âGrandpa says youâre unreliableâ Ah, Rosamundâs father⌠always ready to vilify him.
âDonât believe him, then. Iâm here, arenât I?â But Jacob wasnât listening anymore.
The car ride proceeded for at least another half-an-hour. A long time for someone incapable of staying quiet. His teachers always complained to his mother that Jacob was as reckless as his name. Well, they were boring, so he didnât care much of their opinion. They descended in front of a strange building next to a long concrete trail. Jacob stared intently at the halls and at the people his father greeted as friends.
âSo youâre here to have and adventure?â Asked the guy in a suit to Jacob. He furrowed his little brows. Oh, what he would have given away to be a grown-up, to look at that pretentious stranger dead in the eyes at the same height.
âObviouslyâ said the kid. John smiled.
âYour favourite? Do you want a pilot?â Asked The Guy. His father nodded and dragged Jacob outside, on the concrete railway.
âWhy are we here, dad?â asked the child.
âWell, why donât you go there and find out yourself?â Said John, pushing Jacob towards a great shed. He loved discovering things, but he tried not to show his eagerness. He slipped through the high, ajar door andâŚ
âWOWâ He exclaimed, unable to contain himself.
It was an hangar.
âARE WE GOING TOâŚ.â
âShhhhh, Jacob! People are working, donât scream!â
ââŚFLY?â John gave his son a defeated look.
âYesâ
âTHIS IS THE Â BEST Â Â BIRTHDAY Â OF MY WHOOOOLE LIFEâ Screamed him, running towards the closer airplane. It was old, like the ones his dad had on his desk. A man with a uniform appeared from behind the vehicle and laughed.
âOh yes, this will be a great adventure, how old are you?â
âSix. Todayâ
âYouâll be my younger passenger on this model. Come on, are you ready to fly?â
The kid that greeted that opportunity with cries of delight couldnât ever imagine that he wouldnât have remembered that as a good memory. And, even more, he couldnât have imagined that it would have saved his life many years later. In another world.
John Reckless: I blame myself for this.
Jacob: We all blame you!
john reckless: âin case you havenât noticed, iâm cowardly. iâm a COWARD. iâm not brave. i donât WANT to be brave. have you ever seen me care for my dumb sons? thats cowardice.â

Fox: You are loosing a lot of blood! Quick, whats your type?
Jacob: brave, intelligent, red-headed, shape shifter -
Fox: I meant blood type.
Jacob: Oh
Jacob, looks at wound: Red.
Nerron: Am I your favourite son in law?
John: You're my only son in law and the answer to that is still no.
John: How did you find me?
Will: Oh, it was easy, really. I just listened for the sound of complete and utter betrayal and followed that.
