Formed in 1991, New York, NY, United States
God Is My Co-Pilot have a very strong spiritual and aesthetic connection to the European alternative scene (and have played and recorded a lot there), they are, in fact, a New York band.
They emerged in the early 90s and were fundamental pieces of the Queercore and No Wave scene in the Big Apple.
Their sound, experimental and fearless, speaks directly to the spirit of The Ex.
Organized chaos, the sound of God Is My Co-Pilot is an explosive mix of:
Punk and Jazz, short, fast songs full of improvisation.
Vocalist Sharon Topper sings in several languages (French, Yiddish, German, Finnish, among others), which gives the band a cosmopolitan and European feel.
Attitude Queer were pioneers in bringing themes of sexuality and gender to the underground in a direct and unapologetic way.
God Is My Co-Pilot has collaborated and toured extensively with The Ex.
They share the same "anti-commercial" philosophy and love for angular rhythms and guitars that sound like jackhammers.
Both bands recorded with legendary producer Steve Albini, which explains that dry, raw sound you may have noticed.
