I have kept quiet about this for a long time, but I feel like I need to finally speak up before my frustration gets the best of me.
There is a very popular artist on here who also has a YouTube channel, and they are best known for their Jelsa content. They even collaborated with another Tumblr user to create a fanfiction, which gained a lot of attention. But what really bothers meāand has for quite some timeāis the fact that they failed to credit me when they were clearly āheavily inspiredā by one of my old Jack Frost edits, specifically the one where he is wearing armor. When I first saw their work, I was shocked by how closely it resembled mine. Itās not just similarāitās nearly a copy-and-paste of my edit.
What frustrates me the most is how easily this could have been avoided. It takes almost no effort to send a simple message, to acknowledge the source of inspiration, and to ask for permission. A quick: āHey, I really liked your edit. Can I reference it?ā would have been enough. And honestly? I would have most likely said yes. Iāve always believed in supporting fellow artists, and I know how fandom thrives on inspiration and collaboration. But the fact that they didnāt ask, didnāt credit, and just took my work as their own inspiration without a word? That doesnāt sit right with me.
Itās incredibly disheartening to see my effort and creativity used without even a basic acknowledgment. I put time and energy into my work, just like any artist does, and to see it so blatantly taken without credit makes me feel disrespected and unappreciated. I know that inspiration is a natural part of art, but thereās a difference between being inspired by someoneās work and outright lifting it without credit. And what makes it worse is that they have such a large platform. They have an audience who sees their work and praises their creativity, completely unaware that part of it was taken from someone elseāsomeone who was never given the recognition they deserved.
I donāt want to start drama, but I also donāt want to stay silent when something so unfair has happened. I just wish they had done the right thing.
