There was a light, floral aroma that wafted through the air. Akrona sniffed the pleasant smell, humming while she slept. Her eyes were shut and she might as well have been dead to the galaxy. But calm stillness of her surroundings were being disturbed just ever so slightly.
Light tapping on some sort of device, someone was sipping from a cup, and the low buzzing from the shipâs enginesâthat were rooms awayâwas getting louder and louder in her mind.
Akrona huffed, blinking her eyes open.
âAre you alright?â Quinn asked, his voice calm and quiet from behind her.
âHmm?â She pushed herself up, stretching and yawning. âOh yes. Iâm fine.â Rubbing the sleepiness from her eyes, Akrona turned to look at Quinn. âI just couldnât sleep anymore.â
He sat at the computer terminal in herâno, their room. There were several datapads on top of the flat surface along with a steamy cup of caf. On the nightstand next to the bed was a warm cup of tea with the same smell that had stirred her from sleep earlier.
âI hope I didnât disturb you,â he said, moving from the computer console and sitting down next to her in bed.
Akrona took a sip of the warm tea and set it down. âNot at all. Besides, this is a good time as any to get up.â She smiled as Quinn leaned forward to give a light kiss.
Only after he pulled away did Akrona notice she was still completely nude from the night before.
Akrona grasped at the blanket, trying to cover herself only to let go of the blanket with a giggle. âI suppose it doesnât really matter than Iâm under dressed in front you.â
Quinn chuckled, âNo it does not... In your defense it was a rather⌠busy night.â
Akrona nodded, biting at her lower lip. âIt was indeed.â
âIâm sorry we couldnât have a more proper ceremony,â Quinn replied quietly. âItâs just thatââ
âOh Force, Quinn.â Akrona shook her head and kissed him. âItâs alright. I donât care about an elaborate, fancy ceremony.â She pulled him closer for another, deeper kiss. âI have you.â
âIââ
âAnd thatâs all that matters,â she assured, combing through his dark hair with her fingers.
Quinn paused for a moment, cupping her face with a warm hand. âOf course⌠my love.â
Akrona nuzzled into his touch, placing a kiss on his palm. âSo then, anything I should know about this morning?â
âActuallyâŚâ Quinn rose from the bed and sat back down at the computer console, taking a datapad in his hand while Akrona fetched one of her shawls from across the room with the Force.
âI have discovered an unexpected surprise,â he said, âPer Imperial Ordinance 33-618, paragraph c, the Ministry of War issues incentives to married personnel in active service.â
Adjusting the long, ornate fabric around her frame, Akrona bit down a smile as she watched her new husband continue.
âThe reward just came through, along with a personal message from the Minister himself.â Quinn looked up from the datapad and down at Akrona on the bed. âHe sends his respectful congratulations to my lord.â
âWell thatâs, uh⌠nice of him.â The shawl draped around her shoulders cascaded down to the floor as she stood. âDo you think we should⌠reply? You know⌠Tell him thank you?â
Quinn shrugged. âIf youâd like.â
Akrona came up to him and kissed his cheek. âYouâre always so diligent, Quinn.â
âHeh, you know,â Quinn whispered in her ear, âin light of our new commitment, perhaps you should start calling me âMalavaiâ.â
With a bright smile Akrona giggled in response. âIâll just call you âhusbandâ. Howâs that?â
âPlease do not.â
âOh-oh! Or maybe âhubbyâ.â Akronaâs frame shook slightly from suppressed laughter while a playful grin was plastered on her face.
Quinn shook his head and smiled. âI know better than to take you seriously. Iâm going back to workâŚâ He tilted his head up to kiss her again, before reluctantly turning back to the datapads with a warm smile. âWife.â
