This is what we call a completely tone-deaf and ridiculous response. Finn was an incredible character, in fact, his arc is what most Kylo Ren fans *think* is Kylo's. Someone who was raised in a totalitarian environment and made an active choice to say no and redeem himself--that is excellent characterization, despite Rian Johnson's messy writing and the misguided attempts to salvage him in TROS.
If they'd cast a white actor--say, that miserable Adam Driver--his character would be vastly more celebrated. Racism was talked about because whether you like it or not, it IS a big screaming deal that a huge franchise like Star Wars had a black main lead. Whether you like it or not, people were INCREDIBLY ugly and awful to John Boyega because of it.
I loved Finn and Rey because they made sense canonically, they were foreshadowed in TFA, and it was a great romance for an adventure film. Trying to shoehorn in Kylo Ren as a romantic rival made absolutely zero sense and was part of the reason the subsequent sequels were so bad.
Please take your racism apologia elsewhere because I'm in my blocking era and I really cannot hear stupid-ass takes like this anymore.

On one of my first missions outside of the Supremacy, I ran into Finn. I was 17 and he was 15. I hadn’t seen him in 2 years since I had helped him escape the First Order.
“Rey? Is that you? Wow...I almost didn’t recognize you. You remember me right? Finn?”
I stared blankly at the young man. I felt like I should remember him, but my mind couldn’t place him.
“Finn?” I said, trying to remember.
He suddenly looked very sad and sighed.
“Hell, what did he do to you?” he asked almost to himself. Somehow, I didn’t need to ask who he was talking about.
“FN-2187?” he said, trying to help.
“FN-2187...” I repeated. "A...Stormtrooper?"
Finally, something clicked. A slew of memories came pouring to the forefront of my mind, so much so that it was almost overwhelming. Snoke’s Force memory wipe hadn’t erased everything.
“Oh! Finn...right, o-of course...”
“Phew! Thought you’d forgotten me there.”
“Yes...So did I,” I said nervously.
“Listen, Rey...thank you for everything you did for me. You saved my life. Really, I don’t think I’d be here now if you hadn’t helped me escape.”
I had forgotten that too. My heart was suddenly pounding. I had helped him escape? But that...was treason...had Snoke covered it all up? Snoke had some serious explaining to do...not that he would. What else had he made me forget?
“It was nothing.”
“So you got away too?”
“S-sorry?”
“You got away...you’re not on the Supremacy anymore. You’re here...you’re free...”
“Oh...actually I...I’m here on assignment.”
“You’re still Snoke’s apprentice?” I swallowed, then nodded.
“But, you’re here. You can go anywhere, you don’t have to go back!”
“I do.”
“Why? Is it Snoke? Is he holding something over you?”
“...Something like that.”
“Listen, just come with me. Come with me to the Resistance base.”
“I can’t, Finn.” Snoke’s ring would track me to wherever the Resistance base was, putting all of the Rebels in jeopardy.
“They’ll welcome you, they welcomed me!”
I shook my head. “I‘ve done things...terrible things. They would never welcome someone like me.”
“But...please.”
We stared at each other for a moment. I felt like my heart was being ripped in two.
“I’m happy you’re free, Finn...but I can’t go with you. I’ve changed...it was...easier to embrace the darkness than be constantly punished for having...conflict...in me.” I couldn’t bring myself to say ‘Light’.
“I understand...I struggled with that too. But I just couldn’t live like that, going against everything I felt was right.”
“I wish I was as strong as you Finn.”
“You are...don’t give up okay?” he said tearfully.
I gave a short nod.
“We’ll see each other again, I believe that,” said Finn. And then he walked away.

thinking about Finn and Rey mutually pining for the first years of their leadership of the Jedi Order because both want each other, bad, and admitted it to one another, but know that a relationship would distract them from rebuilding and would be unfair to their students, so they hold off until they can balance their feelings with their lives.
