Power's out. According to Rocky Mountain Power, it's not coming back until 11:30 pm. Lovely. An enforced early night. Ah well. That's actually good considering I've got to go sing at 8:45 tomorrow morning. Actually, I'm so super excited for tomorrow, you all have no idea. I get to sing with the latest incarnation of JCLCS -- JCLMS, with the previous C celebrating the Mass, and there's a bunch of chant and our rehearsal for it last night went from 7:00-11:45 because we were laughing and talking so much. I seriously love these people so much, and we sound great together. I'll try to get a recording of it if I can. The only thing I'm not excited about is being nominated to do the verses for the Introit and Communio, because hello, complicated tongue twisting Latin and no notes written out even in chant notation! Yikes. It'll be fine though. Everything is fine. I practiced today, so it better be fine.
Now, I want to relisten to the entire recording from two years ago, because DAMN we sound good.
Two years ago. Gee, was it really TWO YEARS AGO that we did this? Was it really SEVEN YEARS AGO tonight that we made our first recording up at Holy Family? Man, time flies. WE SOUND SO AWESOME IN THIS THOUGH, OMG! There are literally five of us singing.
Choral Advent Calendar - Day 2
“O Magnum Mysterium” by Victoria
Performed December of 2008 in an empty church with 4 of my closest choral friends plus one significant other. And yes, I realize I’m late. I’ll make up for it tomorrow (today?) I promise.

There are times I want to run away from SAC and form a new choir just with competent people. Singing with JCLCS, for example. And when R started going on about standard voice leading and how it was the dynamics that make the piece... Seriously makes me want to go back and sing with CotM and my old director again.
In joyful anticipation of the JCLCS reunion that is happening NEXT WEEK (!!!), and in recognition of the fact that it is Holy Family Sunday, I present you with this lovely track, recorded exactly 6 years ago today, back when JCLCS was JCLCSM. (I can't believe this was 6 years ago, holy cow!) We actually recorded this at Holy Family parish up in South Ogden, and it was awesome!
We sang this today too, and I soloed on the alto part today because I was the only alto who showed up. We just barely had enough people to do this today. There were 10 of us, and this is a 6-part piece.
JCLCS reunited last year for Holy Family Sunday at St. A, and it was AWESOME!

Enjoy, and I hope you have a wonderful day today, regardless of whether or what you are celebrating.
