What if “William” and “Scott” are not Sherlock’s other names? What if he made that up because those are the names he wanted the baby he dreamed of raising with John to have? What if Sherlock didn’t have the courage to tell him?

I DIED IMMEDIATELY AFTER I SAW THIS, THIS IS A HAPPY GHOST TYPING.

So this was in “A Study in Pink” [S01E01].

“... For the three of you... I mean two, the two of you. I misscounted” [S03E02, The sign of three].

Sherlock went from not knowing that saying that about a dead woman’s dead daughter was wrong to understand that it’s inappropriate to say in front of everybody that Mary is pregnant.

SO, the way I see it...

In TRF Sherlock wants John to believe that he is a fraud probably because Sherlock thinks it’d make it easier for him to forget him after his “death”. It was a way to protect John despite what he has to do. You can also see how much that’s hurting him, because for Sherlock if there’s anything worse than saying goodbye to John it’s that John believes he is a fraud and a liar. But that doesn’t matter for him, because protecting John is more important than his own feelings.

AND in TFP...

Mycroft tells Sherlock to shoot John for exactly the same reason. He does the same with Sherlock. I’ve never been able to tolerate his face in the “Goodbye, brother mine”, he just looks so so so sad trying to fake that smile. For Mycroft, making his baby brother think that he hates him is worse than the bullet itself, because he knows Sherlock doesn’t think Mycroft cares about him. But it was what it had to be done. He did it for Sherlock. Magnussen said it: Mycroft’s weak point is his little brother and Sherlock’s weak point is John Watson.

FUN FACT:

In the Spanish subtitles of this scene (in Netflix), they translated “nice” as “handsome”. And when John says “[Nice]-ish” they wrote “half handsome”.

Do you know what I love the most about this?

Sherlock has said that he only saves important data in his hard drive, in his mind palace.

He is very worried for everything to be perfect for his best friend’s wedding. And also he’s afraid that things are going to be very different now that John’s getting married.

He is very detailed with the little things, like the piano starting exactly at 11:43.

So he doesn’t just only learned those tricks with the napkins, but carefully saved it in his mind palace.

This is not an important information or something he is personally interested of, this is for John. So it’s important to him now because it’s for John.

Somewhere in his mind palace, there’s an special spot for folding napkins that was “built” specially for John. Like a pedestal in John’s admiration room for something he would never have considered important otherwise.

John: actually, you forgot to do one thing.

Sherlock: what?
