Japanese traditional new year’s food, osechi おせち.It’s been quite a while since I have seen quite a spread! Before the days of the convenience stores, all the shops were closed for the first 3 days of the year and all we had to eat was osechi ryori along with ozoni (soup with mochi rice cakes). Many of the items in the osechi box symbolized something auspicious. Such as the kelp means happy. The golden color of sweetened chestnut (kurikinton) is like a treasure that has a wish for a year full of riches. The shrimp is a wish that we will live until we are aged and our backs are bent. #japanesefood #traditionaljapan #japantradition #newyears #japancuisine #livinginjapan🇯🇵 #japaneseculture #japantravel https://www.instagram.com/p/CYPu3-ehZby/?utm_medium=tumblr
