doing research for a fic involving jack and lorenzo and i found their dynamic in next gen was fascinating to meâŚwhy did you guys who were both promising young stars fighting for the spot of a sf peep at each other like this like encountering your ex of junior days with embarrassment.
It was always like this.
Imagine you were Lorenzo Musetti. Yesterday you just brought up your best form of the year on the hard court, taking down Zverat to make it into SF. Then you met Jack Draper, the powerful lefty whom you had never beat since you were little kids.
You peeped at him. He just called a medical timeout. He was flushing, drenched in sweat like hell, his body was all pale, his right leg was cramping, apparently weak, in a vulnerable state. You kept peeping at him, getting mad at yourself. You didnât know why. There was a saying that a lefty is the natural enemy of single backhanded players. But no other lefties on tour could always smash you like Jack did since your junior days. it was always like this. It was like a curse bonding him and you.
He noticed your long gaze. You turned your head immediately and moved your sight away. Usually opponents will avoid unnecessary eye contacts during the break. But in many instances both of you couldnât help stealing a glance at each other. It was ALWAYS like this, since you were young.
Miracle didnât happen to you today. Again you experienced a little mentally breakdown. You were so upset about yourself for not able to take him down, which shouldâve been your best chance to make a breakthrough on the hard court. It was always HIM. But you couldnât even get mad at him.
You knew you wouldnât. NEVER. No matter how many times of frustration this British lefty had given to you, he would hug you at net, whispering softly in your ear to make sure you knew how much respect he had for you. His hug was so tight. Like a sweet trap. Like an invisible rope called fate fettering you both forever.
The moment his hand touched your body you just knew youâre done.
Yeah, itâs always like this.
