In addition to curling up into a ball, Jean has a habit of rocking himself back and forth. It started back in the Nest, during the rare moments when his body hurt just little enough for him to move. It gave him something else to focus on besides the urge to cry, redirecting his attention from tears to the steady motion of his own body. the rhythmic rocking soothed his nervous system and eventually lulled him to sleep. living with the Floozies, the habit never really went away, though it no longer came from necessity. now it simply helps him settle down faster, easing both his body and mind into sleep. Jeremy, watching from the bed beside his, finds the habit oddly endearing. Jean wraps himself tightly in his blanket and rocks with slow, gentle movements, looking for all the world like a child trying to comfort himself. though, to be honest, Jeremy probably has no idea about the meaning that was once woven into the ritual.
