#JackedKirby - 13 Days Of Halloween... Kirby Style! 💥💥💥 What danger awaits the FF in the Lost Lagoon? Hard not to see Jack’s inspiration for this “creature” from #Issue97 of the Fantastic Four published in April of 1970. It is clearly inspired by the 1954 Universal classic film The Creature from the Black Lagoon (Pic 2)... but done in Kirby’s signature style! 💥💥💥 Reed takes his family on a vacation to Florida, but doesn’t miss the opportunity to explore the famous Lost Lagoon while they are down there. They encounter a humanoid/aquatic hybrid named Mowfus (not named in the issue, but later on in continuity) and his mate Bisq, who are members of the alien race known as the Quon. 💥💥💥 They battle against the alien fish folks to a standstill, until Mowfus is able to launch his spaceship with his mate and unborn child to return back to outer space... which the FF allow. The creature never intended to harm anyone, it was just looking for a way home!!! 💥💥💥 Jack has long been a pilfered resource for other film/comic creators in the past... but he too was a fan and not above inspiration. It sure seems like he was inspired to create his own Gill Man like creature to antagonize the FF based on the Universal classic. He obviously left out the face gills to avoid a lawsuit... lol! Just another creepy creature from the imagination of Jack in four comic continuity lexicon.
