#JackedKirby - Lens Shot.... I-DENTICAL!!! 📸📸📸 Jack was known for revisiting a page layout or character design long after first using it on a printed page. His work is full of re-do’s and mimicked panels/pages from early assignments. 📸📸📸 First up we have Adventure Comics #Issue94 which was published in October of 1944. Jack and Joe Simon had been doing a lot of work fro National (Later DC) Comics in the years after leaving Timely over the Captain America rights... one of their greatest contributions was Sandman, a reworking of an existing character that was regularly published in the anthology series! By the time this cover was published Jack & Joe were already off the book interiors, but Kirby is still credited with the cover design. On it we see a photographer using a major magnified zoom lens to bring Sandman and his kid sidekick Sandy into frame on the view finder. The main element that is focused on is the camera itself, with the photogs face obscured by the large camera in the background and the heroes appearing in the foreground but only through the scope of the lens. We immediately get the feeling that the photographer is taking these pictures unbeknownst to the Heroes.... 📸📸📸 Kirby would return to this specific layout with #Issue136 of Strange Tales, published in September of 1965 at Marvel Comics. Having made peace with Marvel, Jack returned in the later 50s to help usher in the age of Marvel Heroes. One of his most iconic creations alongside Stan Lee has to be the Nick Fury/SHIELD stories from Strange Tales, especially considering how popular the character is now thanks to the MCU movies! Here we see another photog observing the hero from afar through a zoom lens, with the same perspective of the hero appearing in the camera lens only. The photographer is sneakily positioned behind the back of the large camera, which is the standout item of this page...
