The coolest thing about the Ise Monogatari is that future authors looked back at Ariwara no Narihira and they went like: "Ariwara no Narihira is historical figure? Not anymore! Now he's our OC"
And they made him do a bunch of random stuff (love them for that)

Notes : Ise Monogatari 伊勢物語 - "Les contes d'Ise" Contes fameux dans la littérature et dans les références culturelles du Japon. On en ignore cependant et l'auteur, et la date de rédaction. Une bonne partie des contes d'Ise trouve son unité par la présence de Ariwara no Narihira 在原業平 (0825-0880), le poète séducteur, dont les aventures amoureuses sont décrites au fil des contes, émaillés par nombre de ses poèmes Il est considéré comme le chef d’oeuvre et le plus ancien du genre littéraire uta monogatari 歌物語. C’est un récit à poèmes datant du Xème siècle, raconte l’histoire d’une princesse impériale consacrée dans le sanctuaire d’Ise (伊勢神宮, Ise-jingū) ayant des relations adultères. C’est un ouvrage anonyme de 65 anecdotes commençant toutes par «Avant il y avait un homme». Sur 209 waka 和歌, 34 sont de Ariwara no Narihira. Il reflète une conception des relations humaines selon le Miyabi 雅 (élégance de cour). Le Ise Monogatari a eu une influence considérable sur la société japonaise, et Murasaki Shikibu 紫式部 (978 ?-1014) s’inspirera d’un personnage pour peindre le Genji du Genji Monogatari 源氏物語 - "le Dit du Genji".
