Turns out that the flashback from chapter 7 is actually based on chapter 6 from the Ise Monogatari. Funnily enough, the Ise mentions that Takako was "extremely young", but doesn't give her an age, while in Outen no Mon, she's 11 (which yeah, it's extremely young). It also mentions that she was living with her cousin, Akirakeiko, who was already Emperor Montoku's consort.

In Outen no Mon the ones that for her are Kunitsune and Tōtsune, but in the Ise Monogatari it was originally Mototsune (the Horikawa Daijin mentioned there) instead of Tōtsune.

Musings of the day: That was the subtlest (and also weirdest) way of asking someone if they're gay ever. I love the "You're gay? Well, fine by me, but I'm telling your future wife."

And yeah, Haseo keeps alluding to Ning being a woman, but I didn't know how to make it sound natural otherwise. I'm sorry. You'll have to imagine that the rest of the characters are not paying much mind to what he's really saying (which is not too far off from reality) so that the scene after Michizane finds out his gender makes sense.
