ANG KIUKOK Pambansang Alagad ng Sining para sa Sining Biswal-Pagpipinta (2001) Isda, pangulay na tinutubigan sa papel, 1966 #artPH #PambansangAlagadNgSining #NationalArtistsPH
your non-carceral transformative healing justice mental health collective still enforces alienation while actively preventing us from meeting our needs. while your executive director is on a press tour to raise awareness of mate crime, your “peer support worker” is telling a terrified real life victim of exploitation “you should have people who care about you, even if we don’t.” your neurodivergent support group doesn’t even notice when people disappear because no one is allowed to interact outside of a 10 minute/4 person breakout room (most of the time we don’t even bother talking bc what is the point) oh wait we get to answer a list of questions provided for us and watch the facilitator mock someone for using the term “autigender” because somehow that’s acceptable in healing justice, right? your core curriculum centers professionals, refuses to challenge their harmful attitudes, and considers “segregating” people with lived experience to “keep them safe” from mandated reporting. great, that is sure to transform mental healthcare. your non-carceral restricted identity based crisis lines are aggressively marketed in all corners of the internet but when you shut the whole thing down indefinitely to upgrade, you write up one post on Facebook.
does anyone else recognize this shit for what it is? gimmicks, clout, press, donations, funding - very little benefit to the people whose struggles you have co-opted for personal gain. what the fuck kind of healing justice lets people disappear? oh wait, non-carceral means that they’re free to fall off the face of the earth without anyone interfering. you have no idea why people vanish. you make sure of that. and there’s no evidence that abandoned hotlines are causing increased distress and suicides because you don’t bother. but jeez, can’t wait to get yet another cringe ass email about your accountability journey as you reproduce bourgeois power structures but offer to lock those with lived experience away in the boiler room for their “safety.” that’s how much they value our lived experience.
psych survivors must criticize these organizations. they are doing harm by sucking up resources and actively preventing us from getting our needs met. all those funds to wildflower alliance so they can shut the whole thing down with not even an automated response while they push for more donations to cover their upgrade. that should tell you what their priorities are.
Buwad, bulad in Bisaya, or Daing, Tuyo in Tagalog is a classic, country-wide practice and recipe that dates back since time immemorial! It just needs 2-3 ingredients depending on the region: fish, salt, and sun. Other recipes include ginger, vinegar, and/or garlic before the fish is sun-dried for several hours. Some fish are split open like danggit or rabbitfish, while others are kept whole like tunsoy (Tagalog), tabagak (Ilonggo) which are sardines & herrings depending on the region. Being an island nation with 60% of Filipinos living at or near a coastline, and 10 of our largest cities at the coast, it is no surprise that buwad or daing is common all over the country (Philippines Environment Monitor, 2003 World Bank). It's important that we sustain our fish supplies, and establishing marine protected areas or MPAs, is one way this can be done. See Philippine Wildlife Art for more trivia on MPAs. Talakitok or trevally and jacks were species that also increased after an MPA was established in Apo Island in Negros in 1983. Talakitok and Labahita (surgeonfish) make up to 75% of the fishery yield from Apo Island, and their populations tripled over the decades after the MPA was started. Organizations that help establish and maintain MPAs include the DENR, Haribon Foundation, Rare Philippines, Oceana Philippines, @wwf Philippines, UNDP Philippines, and more. Talakitok is not only important for marine ecosystems, they're important in our diet! See how Talakitok is prepared at Filipino Food Art. April is also Filipino Food Month and Philippine Earth Month!

Dried fish everywhere in these stalls in Sual, Pangasinan.
Danggit, pusit or nukos, biya… espada or spada look cool because they look like their namesakes: swords.
I typically pick up red, hot, sweet and spicy dilis (dried anchovies) for the road.
Love the tagline of one of the stalls… “fish be with you.”
Buwad, which is Bisaya for Daing or dried fish, is my latest artwork for @filipinofoodart
emeric: you removed my WHAT
isda: i removed your memories last night when you were singing. no, no, no, no, why are you shaking and crying and getting your tears on my hardwood floor? that's not polite.
Pride Fashion for Pride Month!!!
The middle character, Zachariah, is one I haven’t mentioned before because he is still being fleshed out, but I loved his design to much to not include him.
