I'm also stupid pumped that you have an X-Men OC! There aren't very many of those either. Could you tell me more about her?
Sure!Ā Quick backstory: my hard drive crashed last April (wow, last April is weird to say causeĀ Iām still not used to it being 2019 yet) so I lost everything. I only managed to salvage a few fics that were saved randomly on my Google drive and on USBs. One of the many things IĀ couldnāt save was Isabel but Iāve been rethinking her lately. Anyway!
Originally, Isabel Lopez was an ER nurse from Texas. Sheās bummed because an elderly farmer thatās technically her neighbor (with a few acres between their homes) died that morning so her best friend takes her to the drive-in to cheer her up. What her bestie doesnāt know is that Isabel inadvertently killed her. Her mutation is gravitikinesis ā the power to manipulate and control gravity, which has a wide range of abilities except for the fact that Isabel doesnāt use it. Sheās terrified of her abilities and has never tried to explore them, instead trying to pray them away and, when that didnāt work, she isolated herself out on an abandoned farm. Because of this, her powers would build up, like a backlog, and act of their own accord. Sheād wake up floating over her bed in the middle of the night, a lamp or a chair would move itself across the room (and usually break) and, sometimes, sheād release a wave of energy that would stretch out for miles around her. Like to her elders neighbors farm while heās trying to repair a tractor and it crushes him.Ā
He ends up at the ER and she has to work on him, while hearing his son try and explain the weird thing that happened, and watch him die while knowing sheās responsible. She feels immensely guilty so no amount of popcorn and Dean Martin on a big screen will cheer her up ā sheās more of Sinatra girl anyway. But she pumps into a cute blue eyed Brit who looks beyond out of place and asking where the bathroom was so the night wasnāt a total loss. But then she gets home and hears a knock on the door. And then a voice in her head. And she panics, completely freaks and threatens to call the police which is when Erik breaks the lock on the door and busts in. It takes awhile to calm her down but, after explaining about severity of Shaw and promising to help her gain control (instead of letting her powers control her), Isabel is convinced to join Charles and Erik at the CIA.Ā
Things happen fairly normally from there; she and Charle get close and she agrees to move to New York to work as the nurse for Charlesā school once it opens. She loves the work and finds herself falling for Charles, despite his attempts to warn her away. Things are going great until the draft comes along and the school closes. Charles stops flirting then and starts drinking more, overdoing it on the serum Hank made for them. Feeling backed into a corner, she enlists in the Army Nurse Corps and leaves Charles, hoping that heāll change but not expecting much. She writes him while sheās overseas but he never responds, and she helps Mystique get Alex and the other mutants out of Vietnam.Ā Eventually, I planned to have her and Charles reunite and reconcile, but I never got around to it. And I never got around to seeing the third movie so I have zero plot for that. :/
Now Iām thinking of restarting the fic and keeping everything basically the same, but Iām changing her job from ER nurse to school nurse ā that way her transition to being the Xavier School nurse isnāt so weird or a downgrade, idk how to phrase it ā and herĀ overall personality. Instead of being very meek and shy and afraid of herself, sheās outgoing and energetic. Not cocky or arrogant but she knows what she knows andĀ isnāt afraid to show that off. Very independent and opinionated. She still has a her faith but she isnāt the god fearing girl I originally envisioned. Thereās a quote from Sense8 that I love that kinda sums her up, in this regard:Ā āMy love for science doesnāt preclude my faith. For me, science is another language we use to talk about the same miracles faith talks about.ā
