For my money, the most interesting thing about Bolaire currently is that his own insistence that he's a thing, not a person (said with absolute conviction, contentedness, and even pride to Azune in episode 23), makes his anger at Thjazi for treating him as one inherently hypocritical. Like, it's clear they were both wrong about that (for a given value of wrong, as far as his existence as a PC goes, he is functionally a person). But realistically, Thjazi's treatment of him was exactly in line with Bolaire's professed self-image
