#irritated.

But I'm hiding in the bathroom just to take a breather from stupidity.

I'm stuck working a childcare event at my church and I'm so amazed by how many young teenagers they allow in here and have no idea what it takes to keep children safe.

I'm all for allowing teenagers to help out. That's not the issue. I mean, I was 13 when I started helping out and back then it was a blast to be with my friends and be with adorable children.

However, I draw the line at allowing dangerous things to happen that are common sense.

1. Not watching the kids while they eat. This rule is one that I thought stupid because they're like 2 or 3 and they know how to eat and not, you know, choke and die. Wrong. It's so easy for them to stuff too much in their mouth.

2. Not watching the children on general. I dont care if you want to send a text message or check social media or just stand around and talk. Me and my bestie do all three of those things. But we are CONSTANTLY watching the kids. If we are talking, our eyes are on the kids. If one of use needs to send a text, the other is not doing the same. They are watching the children.

3. And finally. The gym. A great place for them to run around and get some energy out. In this gym we have metal bleachers on both ends. Not the nice kind that have plastic seats. Just metal. Imagine also a range of 25+ children from under 1 to about 4 or 5 years of age. Do not let them on the bleachers. The bigger kids might be okay but the ones that are new walkers will copy, and they will end up with a head injury or worse.

I guess my main problem is that these inexperienced teenagers just want to play with toddlers (very adorable toddlers) and not actually do anything for their safety.

Which puts me in the position of being the wicked witch who doesnt let the kids have fun. It's not about fun. It's about safety. I'm all for letting them do whatever they want, as long as they dont make ridiculous choices.
